  • 2003 citroen xsara picasso 2.0 HDI - Brakes to the right.. 4 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have a braking problem on the above. The car pulls to the right when using the foot brake and its slow to come to a halt. I give it to my friend to sort out who is an old school mechanic working from home. He has said that no brake fluid would come through and he has even tried using a compressor to force it through and it still would not come through.

  • Slowest driver. 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I came up to a roundabout in Telford last year, I was on the FJS600. I stopped on the line to let a car from my right enter the roundabout. It was an old, ordinary small saloon of some sort driven by yer archtypical little old lady who was looking ahead through the steering wheel. She came round the island and set off in the direction I was going, a single carriageway, 60mph, main road.
  • More C-Class woes 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, With my limp-home mode resolved - for now at least - I'm on to the next problem with my old Merc (wish I'd bought an Audi, even my old Xantia cost me less per mile). Driving home today I noticed a metallic clunking the o/s/f suspension. A quick inspection in the dark found the o/s/f of the car to have dropped - the wheel is up into the wheel arch, I'm surprised the tyre wasn't rubbing on the wheel arch when parking.

  • back brakes 97 Accord 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The mechanic says the back brakes were worn and charges me for a new set of pads (35quid), saying the handbrake is loose becuse the pads were worn. When I drove the car tonight the noise was gone but the handbrake was as loose as ever ! Got a feeling I was fleeced and maybe nothing got changed at all. No old parts were offered to SWMBO who picked it up - but "old parts declined" was ticked on the receipt.
  • Insurance renew mess up 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The company gave a poor quote so I went elsewhere having spoken to the previous insurers to cancel over the phone. I paid up the new new insurance and have today checked my bank account only to find my old insurerers have set up a new direct debit and and have renewed the policy - so my car is now insured twice. I rang them up only to be told that I should send in my old certificate and proof of my new insurance only on recieving that will they cancel the policy and charge for the period covered as well as an unspecified "administration charge".
  • 'Vehicle Amnesty' 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I understand that where I live, what is being called a 'vehicle amnesty' will be running later this year. Residents who report the first 100 vehicles can have old and unwanted cars, caravans and motorbikes collected and disposed of completely free of charge. At the moment, £62.50 is the normal fee to dispose of a vehicle that has come to the end of its life, but the article I just read said that new legislation being introduced over the next two years will increase disposal costs to £350.
  • Low mileage bmw compact - advice 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I recently bought a 19,000 mile 5 year old 318ti automatic from a little old lady. It's now done 23k and is loosening up nicely! it was serviced by BMW before I bought it and due to it's age they changed the brake fluid, coolant, and plugs along with the oil.

  • Any - Tyre Valve Failure 7 Mar 2018 (Forum)
A tyre valve, only 5 years old, perished on a family car, and deflated the tyre. Luckily when parked up in the cold weather. Deep cracks in the rubber where it meets the rim. Never seen that before. Im wondering if another tyre failure last year, on the same axle of the car, had a similar cause, there was not enough of that tyre left to see if it was a normal puncture.

  • Peugeot 307 Estate - Water getting in to footwell 26 May 2015 (Forum)
Our car (6 years old) has recently started letting water into the drivers side footwell. This has happened twice, first time after washing the car and second time after a heavy downpour.  We have assumed it is running down windscreen and is supposed to drain out.
