306 hdi consumption 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It is regularly serviced, everything seems fine mechanically and the driving style has not changed. Tyre pressures are right, the airfilter is o.k and the brakes are not binding e.t.c. Should I check the egr valve? if so where is it and does it work all the time or only under certain conditions? Thank you -
cambelt & mpg question - Citroen xantia 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Im having a problem with the mpg of the car, it is around 4-5mpg less than would what be expected of the figures of this particular model- 1.8 16v. I tried all the usual stuff- emissions, brakes, CTS, full service, A garage has suggested it could be the cambelt which may be off a tooth, his words not mine. Would this cause a 5mpg drop? Car runs fine otherwise and is mainly town used (80%) , with the occasoinal motorway journey. -
Parts prices 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I've just brought a pair of "Brembo" vented brake disks for my Passat from GSF (OEM fitment) and they were £26.50 each including VAT. Why is it that if these were for a motorcycle (of which I have a couple) they would be upwards of £200 each, (maybe more)! -
Overhead Gantry Signs are Distracting 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Is it me or does anyone else notice the ammount of drivers who slam there brakes on to look at an overhead warning signs on the M25 that helpfully say things like "Dont Drink & Drive" At peak times I have seen lots of rear end shunts around these signs especially if they are displaying a long message regarding future congestion problems. -
Passat tiptronic and towing 7 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It drives well and has been properly serviced but I am a little worried that there may be problems in store from gearbox/brakes/engine. Any suggestions as to what I should look out for? -
Car Service- Comments please 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi, My Mitsubishi Carisma Diesel has gone in for a service this morning and the lovely young man has called to say that the rear brake pads need changing. Is it me or does this seem odd for a 2 year old car that's only done 25K? I would have expected the fronts to go before the rear? Any comments appreciated... Should I mention that this is also a free service as part of the 3 year free servicing provided with the car. -

Mondeo LX Wheel Bearings 24 May 2005 (Forum)
My 2 litre LX Mondeo fitted with rear disc brakes, had to have rear wheel bearings replaced at 35785 miles. Now at 43500 miles the bearings are noisy again. Although the first replacement is still under a Ford Dealer's guarantee, I am concerned that another replacement will have an equally short life. -
It just rolled over 10 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The car ahead of me, doing about 40 mph on a straight road with a good surface, suddenly flipped over and landed upside down neatly on the carriageway. It had not been weaving about, had not braked, and to judge from the absence of tyre marks there had been no sudden mechanical seizure. No other vehicles were involved, as they say. What could cause a small modern hatchback to do that? (The driver was unhurt, but understandably shaken) -

Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Is a good coat of car polish carefully polished off just as good on alloys and safer than spraying silicone near pads and brake discs? Not to mention the nightmare this would cause a bodyshop if the surrounding paint ever needed spraying. -

Hi.I have a 2001 Passat. There is a noise that sounds like a coin stuck somewhere. When I brake it rolls forward, when I go up a steep hill or accelerate, it rolls back.It sounds as though it is around the centre console area.I removed this last night but nothing there.I then found a ball-bearing(???) -
Volvo S80 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Got a 99 S80 2.9 petrol that has a disconcerting habit of massive brake fade Its an auto The fade seems to be accompanied by a power surge, living in London I do a lot of stop/start driving, Its been to a main dealer but of course it didn\'t happen. Volvo have changed the servo under warranty & say this is still ok. -
Mercedes CLK230 Komp. Warning Message 19 Mar 2003 (Forum)
While driving on Saturday an alarm tone and malfunction indicator came up on my year 2000 MB 230 CLK Kompressor. Indication was BAS - Brake assist with severity 2 and visit workshop advice. Returned home and message remained in malfunction display. This morning, no malfunction and no record in the malfunction display. I have an indicated 6000 miles to next service, which with my current driving profile will not be for some 3-6 months. -
Dangerous repair 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Briefly, their new Citroen Saxo when delivered had a cosmetic problem with a seat and was changed under warranty. A short while after with her husband driving he braked rather hard and she was surprised to find herself and seat still moving forward. Fortunately she was not hurt. It transpired the new seat had been 'secured' with plastic ties by the garage junior. -

Alloy Wheel Protection 12 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I think this may have been mentioned before, but, what do people on here find is the best product for protecting alloys from brake dust, and salt etc. during winter? I use Wonder Wheels to clean them, and it does a great job, but doesn't offer any protection. As there are several products in Halfords and I'm too tight to buy them all and try them :) I was wondering if anyone else here has anything that they recommend particularly? -
Noisy Celica 3 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone had the same problem I'm experiencing with a 1990(H) UK Toyota Celia GTi? Under engine braking, and only when the car is hot, I hear a nasty metallic grating sound. Engine mounts have been checked and are OK. Depressing the clutch makes the noise go away. Is it likely to be gearbox / thrust bearings or something incredibly sinister?
