  • Nissan Micra - Pavement Surfing - Yet Another Near Miss ! 16 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Following on from my posting about the Peugeot 307 'brushing past me' on the pavement at 30 mph on 19 March, my wife and I have recently been the victims of yet another example of the increasingly popular 'sport' of 'pavement surfing' carried out by drivers who are impatient and wish to avoid slowing down or stopping under momentary traffic congestion conditions.
  • Reports of my rental car (again) 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I usually travel with my family (so five of us with three growing children) and over the years we have rented something as large as a Kia Sedona to something as small as a Mazda 2 and we have all fitted in with greater or lesser amounts of luggage.  My last trip was solo (to our holiday apartment) so I had a Peugeot 107. We are back again and this time its a brand new Astra. As with most of the cars we rent, we are given 1.4 - 1.6 engined automatics unless the car is much smaller or larger (e.g the 107 or Sedona).
  • Engines - big and lazy or small and highly-strung? 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Particular favourites of mine have been - - the B-series Austin engine in my first car, the beloved A50 - the 2.0 Renault engine which I had in a 20TS and two 18 GTX estates in the 1980s - the V6 24v in the Laguna - the 1.8 XUD in the Peugeot 205 - the 2.5 TDI in the A4 Avant of blessed memory and the current VAG 2.0 TDI (though I believe both these can give trouble when they get to high mileages). I've only test-driven the VAG 2.0 TFSI (in an Octavia vRS) and liked that too: I suppose I should reserve judgement till I have a go in a 1.4 - but it does sound as if it may be at its best only at high revs - which isn't what I want.
  • Driving in Argentina 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Despite the economic crash the ?car fleet? is pretty new and largely European in nature with a sprinkling of ancient Peugeots and Ford Falcons still on the road. Trucks are a different matter with anything from US extra long semis to 40 foot flat beds hauled by modified pick up trucks. Some trucks are in terrible states with half shredded tyres, shattered windscreens and plywood ?
  • Time for a change ...................... 21 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I've previously owned a Mondeo and Vectra and would not consider either again. I've also looked at a new Octavia, but wasn't keen on the deal offered. I've also looked at Peugeot, Citroen and Renault but aren't keen on any of them. I probably prefer a petrol engine, but the toyota D4D is very quiet and is a least as quick as the Mazda 2.0 petrol. The toyota diesel is only £650 more than the 1.8 petrol, but appears to have much stronger residuals.
  • New Civic - Is Honda going mad? 27 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My parents generation and even I when I test drive cars seem to lament the sort of soft cossetting ride you could get from the Renault/Peugeots of old and instead the more modern versions of such cars are now "Germanically hard" as that is what the yoof marketiers think is what the market wants (ie ape a Golf/BMW). You do wonder if when car companies "clinic" a new car whether they actually interview a wide range of customers or even admit internally that the majority of their customers are about 20yrs older than they would like...
  • 'Police Aware' 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
About 2 weeks before Christmas a car appeared across the road from our house during the night. As the days and weeks passed it became fairly obvious that it had been abandoned. (A Peugeot 205, seemingly in reasonable nick, but tax disc due to run out 31/12/04.) Not wanting to interfere in case someone had parked it legitimately I did nothing until one morning we noticed a large dent in the back wing that hadn't been there the night before!
  • Front end shunt: cheap repairs? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The other party braked suddenly when they saw a police car with flashing lights waiting to emerge from a side road. My fault, driving too close. Damage to other party (newish Peugeot 306) was dented boot. My N-reg Nissan Micra is all bashed in at the front. Damage is: * Severely buckled bonnet, won't close. * Broken light cover on the passenger-side headlight * Right headlight (driver side) totally smashed, wing section mangled at front. * Radiator seems OK, but front bar it is attached to is bent?
  • Dream Car Anyone? 15 Jul 2004 (Forum)
-If I stick to the 4WD The newer Range Rover P38, I don't think my budjet will stretch to the newer model too soon. If I go back to family cars, I quite like the Peugeot 806 that my sister has. In addition I would like to replace my van in a few years time with a more motorway friendly vehicle, but that will have to be reviewed if and when my business takes me out on the motorways or dual carriage ways more.
  • Bargains still to be had in EU 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
But differentials in excess of 20 percent between highest- and lowest prices are also available on Fiat Puntos, Peugeot 206s, VW Golfs Ford Focuses and Ford Mondeos. Certain brands -- notably at the luxury end of the market -- actively limit price differences for their cars across the EU, it noted, citing Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Seat.
  • Ford Euro IV Diesel Info 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
As part of its commitment to making its engines as clean as possible, Ford is introducing an optional filter to capture those polluting and potentially harmful emissions. Developed with PSA Peugeot Citroën and introduced at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show, the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) makes its debut in the Focus C-MAX Duratorq TDCi engine lineup. Available in selected European markets, the new DPF system is targeted to reduce particulate emissions by more than 98 percent to meet future emission standards.
  • Poor performance '99 Astra TD... 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The car will cruise without problem at 70-80mph, but is decidely sluggish in getting there, much more like my old Peugeot 205 diesel which didn't have a turbo. This Astra will NOT put a smile on your face. It struggles up hills, but seems quite quiet and we have done 1000 miles since buying the car from an auction with it performing like this.
  • Replacement for a ZX turbo D? 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
If I go for one of the VW engined vehicles, it seems that a 115 bhp engine is needed (a Bora maybe?) The Peugeot 307 HDI is just too stodgy from the lights. Any suggestions from the experts out there? How long is it likely to be before one of the cars mentioned gets inside my budget?. Is the Fiat Brava JTD 105 any good?
  • Polo purchase 1 Dec 2002 (Forum)
AM new to posting but this discussn board seems like it may be exactly what i am looking for. I have seen a car that i want to buy to replace my old K reg Peugeot 106. I commute 100 miles per day to work so i decided i would treat myself to a new car. I have seen a silver V reg (1999) Polo 1.4 CL for sale at £5,500 ish (open to negotiation yet). I have had a test drive and all went well but to be honest i don't really know what i am looking for.
  • I have been charged by the police and have a court 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have been charged by the police and have a court hearing regarding a crash i had earlier on this year. The reason for the crash was that my Peugeot 306 1.6 Virant engine cut out while driving and somehow i lost control of the car as my power steering was stiff (no pun please) :-) and therefore i hit a tree. There was a lot of damage on the driver side so the fire services had to cut part of the car just to get me out (how embbrassing).

  • New Family Car/SUV advice 28 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Had a 2017 Peugeot 3008 GT Line for over 3 years and while it was ok and lots to like, there were issues with the timing belt and some electrical problems and I think its time to move on. My budget is about £25k max using my car as a trade in.
  • Skoda Rapid Spaceback - Selling to a car buying service - my experience 2 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I'd recently been offered around £6k by a Skoda main dealer and £5.5k (by an online broker) against a new Peugeot 3008.    The deal is done in 10 minutes. I was curious to understand how the business model worked and the chap indicated most cars went to auction and they aimed for £100-200 profit per car.
  • Help choosing the right car please 27 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I find the golf as bland looking now. Are the cheaper brand of cars more reliable now such as Peugeot 308, Citroen cactus, Hyundai i30 and Astra? I could get a newer car with my money with those types, but would they cost me more over the 3 years in running costs? Sorry I'm rambling now if you have managed to finish my post any help would be greatly appreciated.
