Dream Car Anyone? - Hugo {P}
What car do you all aspire to drive?

Firstly, if money was no object and you could simply take your pick from whatever was out there, even if there are only two of them left in the world, and why?

Secondly, more realistic aspirations eg what you hope your next car is going to be or what you may drive in a few years time.

Thirdly what would you be happier with (Mondeo TDCI rather than the 16v petrol for example)?

My dream car - don't really know. Probably a new Rolls or Bentley. I have always liked the complete comfort and luxury that these offer, having sat in one and played with the power windows when I was young. Alternitively, I also liked the Jag XJS. I know they changed the styling for the later models. I would prefer the convertable but I'm not too fussy.

What I may aspire to drive in a vew years time? -If I stick to the 4WD The newer Range Rover P38, I don't think my budjet will stretch to the newer model too soon. If I go back to family cars, I quite like the Peugeot 806 that my sister has.

In addition I would like to replace my van in a few years time with a more motorway friendly vehicle, but that will have to be reviewed if and when my business takes me out on the motorways or dual carriage ways more. I like the Merc Sprinter or the VW transporter. The Trafic I have is too noisy for doing 70 for long periods.

What I would prefer to what I have now. The newer 300TDi Discovery, though My 200TDi is giving me absolutely no problems at the moment, which I understand is a bit unusual! So I;ll stik with that - low maintenance AND next to no depreciation - can't be bad!

Ah, lovely thread. Gives me an excuse to talk about my favourite subject :D

My dream car: The 1980's Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I had one of these for the weekend I got married, and it just made me love it more. The look is fantastic, the sound is heavenly, and, in Britain at least, it seems to be the one supercar you can drive without seeming brash.
Over that weekend the number of waves, flashes, people coming over to ask about it, was pretty high, if I'd been in a Ferrari I don't thinbk I'd have got one response.

My next car: A Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo. Hopefully within the next few months, but I'm in no particular rush, certainly haven't fallen out of love with my current Alfa 145 QV yet. Will be waiting for exactly the right vehicle at the right price to come along.

Not quite sure what you mean by your 'thirdly', another realistic car that I'd get if the Coupe wasn't viable? Or an alternative for the Aston?

If it's for the Aston, then perhaps the new (not yet released) Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione. If you haven't seen one of these yet, do a google search for a piccy. Breathtaking.

Not really sure of an alternative 'real-world' car. I've considered looking into a Nissan 300zx twin Turbo, but I think the running costs are probably still beyond me. Also, I'm not so much into fast cars, as enjoyable cars, and I've yet to be convinced that the Japanese provide the latter as well as the former.

Sorry BB, what I was talking about was a car you'd simply prefer to the one you have, ie one you would replace it with now if yours was written off for example.

Dream Car Anyone? - BazzaBear {P}
Oh right.
Erm... to tell the truth, it'd probably still be the Coupe, since I'm reasonably close to getting one anyway.
On the other hand, if any blame for the hypothetical write-off was aportioned to me, I think I'd have more chance of ascending the throne of Britain than getting insured on a Coupe any more :D
In that case, I think I'd find another good example of an Alfa 145, it really is an exceedingly fun car.
Dream Car Anyone? - teabelly
The aston is pretty much at the top of my aspirations list too :-) I would like a tvr cerbera or tuscan if that were no longer available.

My next car, hmm, might be a skyline gtr-32 (if the person I am trying to buy it from ever makes up their mind). I think I will keep the integrale as a weekend car as I don't think there is another car for the money that is so much fun and hatchback practical at the same time. Failing getting the skyline a 3 litre gtv would make a good alternative and it is probably more 'me' if I am being realistic.

I know what you mean about the japanese cars. They're awesome speed wise but they tend to lack soul. I nearly had a fiat coupe instead of the integrale but I happened across the lancia before I saw a coupe so fate decided which one I had.

What's the QV spec 145?

Dream Car Anyone? - Robin Reliant
Dream car would have to be the Ford GT40, in my opinion the best looking car ever built. I've had slot car GT40's, static models and even a radio controlled one, but when those six numbers come up the real thing is gonna be mine.

Next car? Another Mondeo, I would think. Cheap to run and comfortable. Never bothered with one for the Scalextric, tho.

Sorry, that's me using AlfaOwner shorthand.
It's the cloverleaf, gets referred to as a QV (Quadrifoglio Verde) on the continent, but not here for some reason.
It's the 2 litre twinspark.
Not quite up there with the 'Grale, but good fun nonetheless.
What's the going rate nowadays for a 'Grale in decent condition?
Dream Car Anyone? - teabelly
There are 4 grale models, 8valve, 16, Evo 1 and Evo 2. Decent 8 valves are around 4k, decent 16v are probably 6-7k, Evo 1s roughly 9k for decent ones, Evo2s at least 11k. There are a few limited editions out there that vary the price a lot. Avoid the kat models as they are the strangled swiss versions. Prices are quite variable. They took a good dip last year and there were lots of 16v cars around for 4k but that supply seems to have dried up now.

They sound relatively cheap to buy but maintenance can be very expensive depending on what goes wrong. They also need cambelts changing at 2 years or 24k to be on the safe side.

Not sure about the dream car, an Aston of some form is definately at teh top of the list, just not sure which one.

As for the next realistic one, a Caterham 7 RS300, or possibly a Radical SR3. About as much fun for the road as could be had.

Dream car = Aston Martin DB9 - OR surprisingly enough, BMW 7 Series

Car in a few years, I would seriously consider another Focus but that's a long way off yet.

I do like the Crown Victoria but 2 things put me off - importing it and LHD.

I want a 1957 De Soto Firedome** 2 door V-8 in metallic green, with the moonroof, the Chrysler Hemi engine in it and a nasty cam, green tint, the push button auto box change on the dash, the enormous rocketship tailfins. Beside me is my gf wearing a poodle skirt, a pony-tail, make-up by Maybelline, chewing gum, feeding 45 rpm doo-woop records by the Penguins, the Dubs, the Crests and the Skyliners into the under-dash record player. Cruising through the night listening to "16 Candles" or "Earth Angel" or "Since I Don't Have You" (with that wonderful impromptu ending).....what wouldn't I give....

We pull in to a Burger King (the real original kind) where the waitress glides over to us on roller skates, takes our order, brings it back and sets it down on the clip-on tray which fits on the car window and I am 19 all over again. Then we go the drive in movie to watch something with Kim Novak in it and miss most of the film but drive off forgetting to unhook the loudspeaker thing from the car window, a common occurrence.....

Then I'll know I've died and gone to heaven.

Now where did I leave that pack of untipped Chesterfields?......

** or if there's only a couple of those left St Peter, the pink '59 Caddy convertible with the white leather would do fine, really it's OK.
Dream Car Anyone? - Sofa Spud
I like the look of the recently announced next-generation Land Rover Discovery, even if it does have a touch of late 70's Fiat about it's styling. I'd go for the TDV6 diesel version, with manual gearbox. Dark metallic blue would be nice. Oh! - and a nice medium-sized caravan thrown in too please!

Cheers, Sofa Spud

If money was no object... One of those Porsche things that's the same as the Tourareg (or however it's spelt) - is it called a Cayenne? I just love the way it looks like a big friendly hippo lolloping along. It's also bigger than most other things on the road, and pretty quick too!

If Polo was written off tomorrow (let's not tempt fate!), and I had about £3000 to spend, I would probably get another Polo! Possibly a Focus but it would have to be a very nice one!

My next car will probably be of the Polo/Fabia/Ibiza variety, or a Megan because of the safety. Don't like the new golf but would buy a used one of the old type.

When I've been promoted a few times, I'll have an Audi S3 please! :)

Oh...and a Hummer for driving in towns and near to lorries :)

Dream Car Anyone? - NickD
If money were no object, I'd seriously consider a new Disco (TDV6) or a Rangie TD6; but I think I'd prefer to be in a new Jag XJ - The V6 SE would be plenty.

More practically, I think the next car will be another Mondeo ( TDCI next time) but I'd really like an Accord CDTI.

I think I'm driving my dream car at the moment. With my current car requirements I think I'd have to be very very very wealthy indeed to want to change it for something else.

In my wildest dreams, a MK II Jaguar.

Dream Car Anyone? - patently
What would I dream of? Gosh.

Well, I did try out as many as possible and settled on the 911. Money was admittedly an object, but not as much as it could have been. If money simply wasn't an object at all, then I think I go for a more focussed 911 such as the GT3RS. I might perhaps go elsewhere and have a 360CS, but that has more of the flash factor that frankly doesn't do much for me.

Aspirations? Well I've just changed to a 330i coupe so haven't really put my mind towards the next one. Perhaps I could ask for an M3?

What would I be happier with? I don't think I could be... (sorry). What I have learnt is that an everyday car needs to be less special. 911s and M3s can be used nearly everyday but there will be occasions when you'd rather have something softer. That day when you start to feel ill and need to go home; you don't want a pin-sharp eager coupe. You just want to roll home with minimal effort.

So my aspiration wouldn't actually be the M3. It would be a 730d.

Since my childhood encounter with one , if I aspire to anything it would be a 1920's Bentley in British Racing Green complete with supercharger and leather strapped bonnet and with that accompanying burbling roar of the exhaust, now wheres my leather flying cap and goggles ..

Next car will probably be another Honda Civic or Accord as I value reliability.

I would be content with any car that doesn't give me aggravation.

It's a late Sixties/Seventies Garage for me.

Lamborghini Urraco P300 - one of those forgotten cars that was apparently a geniune match for the Ferrari of its day. Makes it here on looks.

Alpine-Renault 1600s - great rally car with fine looks.

Detomaso Managusta - Still looks great now.

Then of course I would have a Daytona and a Muira, just to see which one was really the king of the road.

But if only allowed one car, the Urraco in that metallic green please.

Dream - GT40, one of the good replicas will do, I'm not sure about this new sanitized version though.

Present hobby car is chipped Supra MK IV, quite nippy and affordable to run. Only it attracts mice.

Permit me to honourably mention Maggie the Magentis V6. Handy for the messages, yet can be hustled more smartly than you might think, with a jolly engine howl. (Kia have dropped it, not the desired utilitarian image or not to compete with Hyundai?)
Dream Car Anyone? - Billsboy
I'd like anything understated. By that I mean something very innocent looking from the outside, but packed with power underneath. Something for the boy racers to snear at when they pull alongside at the lights and to leave them astonished when you leave them standing.
Any ideas of anything that fits the bill?

I'd put good money on this not being anything like what you were thinking of, but what about this, the Mafia staff-car:

Looks perfectly ordinary, goes like the clappers.
A 155 Q4 fulfills the same criteria, shame they can both only be bought LHD.

A) Can I have two please?
A Bentley Continental GT for daily use and a Bentley 6 1/2 for weekends.

B) Next car will probably(*) be an XJR.

C) Happy with the XJ8 and weekend Chevy Z28 at the moment.

(*) My Little Nest of Vipers hates the XJ's image. She calls it 'an old-(common term for flatulance)'s car.
