  • Teenage provisional driver moped & parking tickets 27 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Yes you may all laugh..I did to until I realised my beloved had landed himself a £60.00 fine payable in 2 weeks!! I know the law on parking on a private car park is different but can a ticket be enforced on a 16year old driving on a provisional licence with no bank account or income as he will be returning to school in September? As his parent I know who will cover the initial outlay but feel it is unjust that I have to cover fines when I have no real impact on his parking.
  • BMW Z3 Roadster (1997 - 2003) - Getting Insured 2 May 2008 (Forum)
I have been refused cover for the above vehicle, 1998 with 1.9 litre engine, 5000 miles per annum. The car is group 14 and I am 19 with 2 years no claims. Current vehicle a 2004 Fiesta 1.25 (group 3) but as I am away at University most of the time I have decided I would like to return to something fun, a two seater roadster.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Just bought a TDCi 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
First one is that every picture I've ever seen of the engine bay of a TDCi, the engine has a large plastic cowel/cover covering the entire engine. My car hasn't got one - should it have? I've also got a noise that sounds like an exhaust hole blowing but only seems to happen when I'm in too high a gear for the speed I'm doing - is this normal?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9 XRD - Glow plug problem 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I got some new glow plugs for my old car [to get it half decent to sell it!] - but when taking the old glow plug out, the bit of the engine which the glow plugs screw into broke off! ...I was just asking what that bit is called, I'm not sure if its the cylinder head because I've looked at some images of cylinder heads and none of them have a top cover bit...

  • 'Big Wheels' not liked by insurers? 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Yet another insurance 'mystery' re some insurers either won't give cover or will cover for increased premium and others don't give a toss as long as they are notified of the change.

  • HJ's insurance advice 10 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I For example, one insurance condition is that the vehicle is maintained in roadworthy condition. Does that mean that whenever a car is stopped in a police check and found to have say a faulty light or the wrong kind of child seat,, the driver is also prosecuted for driving without insurance? Insurance to drive a vehicle, and insurance cover for that vehicle, are different things surely?
  • VW Golf Mk4 - Engine Replacement 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The new engine comes with a 3 month warranty on it which provides some peace of mind. To be honest it's been a nightmare couple of weeks with this car and I'm just trying to cover all angles as much as possible! Thanks in advance. Tom
  • Warranty rip off 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
As the windscreen washers have packed up I told her to just book it in to the local dealer - "i'm sure it will be covered under warranty". Not having owned a car with warranty that has needed work, she casually checked that there would be no costs incurred for the work. We were staggered to be advised that a charge of £60 would be made to diagnose the fault, and this was non refundable whether covered on warranty or not.
  • Mercedes SLK - Condensation 29 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I often get bad condensation on the inside of the windows in the mornings. In bad frosts the whole of  screen is covered in ice inside.  The car doesn't smell damp and there is no sign of moisture in the carpets.  Any ideas?
  • frosted windows 21 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I saw a car driving along this morning with all windows covered with frost bar a six inch diameter peep hole in the widscreen. Not enough visibilty to see if he was lighting a fag or using his phone.
  • Weasel Warranties 24 Nov 2002 (Forum)
, and after phoning the dealer he suggested taking the car down to our local Mercedes dealer to get the power steering fixed. She had been told before being sold the warranty by the dealer that the warranty covered repairs at a main dealer. However upon phoning the warranty people they said they would only cover labour up to 25 pounds/hour, therefore we would have to pay the labour excess if the car was repaired at a main dealer.

  • Trading in a New Car 22 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Bought a year old car last year, that had covered  9,000 miles. The previous owner was a lady who traded it in after only owning it for just over eleven months. Why would anyone keep a car for just 11 months, must have lost a fortune?
  • If only my garage was big enough ........ 6 Jan 2010 (Forum)
....... to enable me to wash my car inside it. I can't rember that last time I washed my car and it's covered in salt. Until the weather gets better I'll just have to rely on my dehumidifier drying the car and slowing down the rate of corrosion.
  • Peugeot 308 - HPI Check Wrong, Car Turned out to be CAT D 9 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hello there, So I am wondering what rights I have, and/or who to go after for compensation, given the following situation: I bought a car in April 2015, and performed a full HPI check with all the added extras you need to do for the full cover. I performed the check before buying the car, and it passed completely, nothing amiss. Fast forward to August this year and I want to sell the car.
