  • Car Radios. 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The only thing missing is steering wheel controls, but I figure no-one has got that right yet (apart from Renault who's implementation of remote stereo controls is superb) Sitting in the car listening to the long version of "money for nothing" I pondered on how far we had come in all things digital music and in car ICE since 1973.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.8 DMF again and vehicle decision 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I am a bit worried about the DSG gearbox because of my drive, which involves backing out uphill through a 90 degree turn. My current car withits torque converter is fine, but I worry about having to slip the clutch(es) in the DSG or on a DMF car. Today I visited the local main Ford agent to look at a Focus 57 reg, just 2 years old, that they had advertised.
  • A most reliable car 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
All I can say is let's hope Mazda goes on making cars like this.
  • Fiat Brava 1.4 timing belt. 24 Aug 2001 (Forum)
In running this spring allows the tensioner pulley to move a fair bit with an alarming whip to the belt. The result of this on the car I have here is that the old belt has already worn halfway through the plastic lower timing belt cover (where the whipping has thrown it out of line) and the back of the belt is damaged from this constant rubbing.
  • Dodgy Car Deal 10 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I have offered the garage various alternatives - a monetary compensation payment or to replace the vehicle with an identical spec car which is not an ex-rental car. All they have offered me is a free service next year. Alternatively I can have my old car back and the deal cancelled. Neither of these options appeal to me. Frankly, the offer of a free service next year is unsatisfactory and derisory and the offer of the return of my old car and cancel the deal is just a joke.
  • Audi A1 Sportback - Return car on a PCP plan 14 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Hi - my question is in relation to my nephew who purchased an Audi S1 back in October on a PCP. He's a bit of workaholic (strange for a 19 year old) and has saved more than 15% for a house deposit, but, because he has a car on PCP, all the mortgage companies he's tried have said no. Their reasons are all the same, you cannot have the extra burden of debt whilst you still have a car on PCP.
  • Dealer insists car must be registered early 27 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Hi, My wife’s PCP ends in September so we went shopping for a new car in May, with the intention of collecting it in September - which we have been clear about from the start. Although it is the same make the new car is from a different dealer. The dealer contacted us to say the car will be ready to collect in mid July, but I don’t want it then as I don’t want to be paying for two cars in July and August.
  • Any - buying a car privately - how much over trade price 24 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I think this is over estimated, as I see that cars are more often than not listed at independent dealers at around £500 - £ 700 over the part-ex prices. (Similar to what autotrader estimates to be private sale prices.) The cars that I am looking at are 7 - 8 year old cars with a part-ex price of £2500 - £3000.

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - Insurance claim query 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I am not keen on getting my car repaired, as no matter how good the repair is, it?s going to stand out against 10 year old paintwork (the repair will be even more apparent if the bootlid is replaced). So my question is - given that the quoted repairs are £1400 and that I may need a new boot lid and that I will need a hire car while mine is being repaired, would they accept a suggestion to give me say £1300 to write the car off and letting me keep the car (so I can sell some bits of it), thereby saving the potential cost of additional repairs and hire car costs, and giving me the opportunity of buying a non repaired car?
  • Cheapest car hire 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Brother in law has just written off father in law's old car. It was entirely his fault and now they need to hire a mondeo sized car for the rest of their holiday over here in the UK. They are here until the first week of September. The standard rate seems to be about £150 pw which is more than they can really afford.
  • Buying Used - "attitude indicators" 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Finally, do you reckon there's any mileage in "one lady owner" cars? Assuming that they are indeed one lady owner (and not "plus one 17 year old son" is the car likely to be in better nick? I guess I'm generalising, but although the women drivers I know are less likely to thrash a car, they're amongst the most likely to have little scrapes, dings, forget maintenance and ride the clutch / use it it as a brake.
  • Buy a used car without seeing it? 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I recently contacted a BIG car supermarket about a number of 6 - 12 month old Ford Mondeo estates, asking specifically which of the three outlets specific cars were at. They told me that the cars were not yet at an outlet but they sold most of their cars in transit anyway so I should put down a deposit of £300 on one that I liked the sound of and then arrange to collect later.
  • A lot of fog related to buying a hybrid EV 13 May 2024 (Forum)
Ive been looking at Petrol, Full Electric and Hybrid as a potential car purchase but theres a lot of fog out there. Petrol has merits like purchase price. Hybrid offers some savings but estimated annual mileage (and if mainly local or longer distance) plays in to cost savings to run but purchase price is higher (new of a couple of years old) so swings and roundabouts.
  • Vauxhall Insignia - Engine number 3 Mar 2024 (Forum)
It was brought in for "extensive tests", the dealership hd it for 4 weeks. We were told that a new engine was going to be put into the car. The engine was finally replaced 3 weeks ago. Since then things didn't sit right. The noise was still present, service book not changed, engine number on "new" engine same as old engine,  when we asked about getting the paperwork completed, we were told that this was in hand.

  • Imbalanced wheels - vibrations and noise? 16 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I recently had to replace my front tyre with used / part worn.  Before getting that done, although a very old car, it was pretty smooth. After the change, I noticed there was some vibration through the seat, floor and steering wheel.  I had it re-balanced, but after a week or so, it still felt at most times driving with a flat spot and very noticeable road noise.
  • Ford Mondeo - Best way to move on an MOT failure 5 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Take any potentially worthwhile bits of (lights, wing mirrors etc) the scrap what's left.  I've got myself a new car and can park the old mondy off road ok. Thanks for any suggestions.
  • Ford All New Focus ST Line 1500cc - Ford SYNC 3 1 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Also f you connect your phones Google Drive App up with a USB cable( it has Wireless and Bluetooth, but will not allow a phone to send any data that way) it stops the Bluetooth connecting. Ford also do not as of yet supply an Applink for a TomTom Go Car app  on my Smartphone. Honestly it would have been better to abdone Sync and fit an Android notepad, as it least it has connectability and could run apps. This car was not cheap and I am very disappointed in the infotainment system, which I consider old fashioned and not up to modern  technological standards.
