Land Rover Range Rover - Proper Reliability Test by Brand.. (Guess who is b 12 Jul 2020 (Forum)

Too much turbocharged power tends to cause torque steer and there’s little to be gained from high rev antics whenever all the power is much lower down the rev range Point to point they’re hugely quick but give me a Peugeot 306 GTi 6, Clio, R19 16v or 205/106 GTi any day of the week. All were fun and at much lower speed and far lower cost. The latest ultra hot hatches are £30k plus and boasting 250bhp upwards yet I wouldn’t thank you for one. -
Which is better Yaris, or Panda? 28 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I could not make up my mind which one to buy after sold my old Peugeot 306 for a Yaris 1.4D 73bhp 2004 or Panda 1.3 Multijet 70bhp 2004, I have been on both out for a test drive, both are very space for a small car, Panda is cost £29 cheaper to insure than Yaris, both have same road tax but the engine I am more focus is mpg because I am driving nearly 30,000 miles per year between 60-70mph on dual carriage, the Panda’s engine is rev to 2,900rpm at 70mph but the Yaris is rev low at 2,500rpm do you think 2,900 rpm is far too much for a diesel engine. -
Automatic petrol with a bit of panache and flair 28 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I am willing to spend £10kish and no-one is running up to me to take my cash. Been at 5/6 nationwide dealers - Skoda, VW, Ford, Peugeot, Mazda - they all searched their databases and came up with over 700 diesels that fitted the bill and about 10 petrols....a Skoda, a BMW 3 series estate, and I forget the other ones. I need some help....some ideas....suspect I will have to go private.... -
Toyota Corolla - Timing Belt Change 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
It's a surprisingly lovely car to drive, no wandering on the road, makes all the right noises and drives better than the 2010 Peugeot 3008 it's replacing. The one thing letting everything down however is the timing belt which was last changed in 2005. I've inspected the belt and it doesn't look worn or cracked, but I want to replace it just so I know it's been done. -
What to do with a deceased's (worthless) car? 27 Aug 2015 (Forum)
As it stands car insurance is at the bottom of the pile for notifying of the death so I have not yet informed her insurer, although I have informed the DVLA (not sent the V5 off yet). The car is an 06 reg Peugeot hatchback (can't recall the precise model) which is missing several bits of trim and has a large dent in one side. It was my brother's old car and I think it might have been an insurance write-off (non-economical repair) although it is now back on the road. -
Help! Which car? 6 Aug 2014 (Forum)
- Low road tax/insurance bracket - Suitable for frequent motorway (well, A road) driving and occassional long distances - Ideally, costing about £4000 (this is my current budget but I'm starting to wonder if it's too small.) I've read lots of reviews, and I thought something like a Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 or Peugeot 207 might be good, but from what I've read I get the impression they aren't ideal for motorway driving. Those that are good for motorway driving are more expensive to run and cost more in general... -

Mitsubishi ASX - Head or Heart. Diesel or petrol 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Realistically except on annual holidays the car will mostly contains 1 person or sometimes 2 and we don't tow anything so perhaps I am being greedy. I like the thrust my 2.0HDI Peugeot has now. Could someone out there with a 1.6 petrol reassure me it is adequate and not a bit sluggish. I built a spreadsheet and allowing for the £2250 difference in price, 40 mpg versus 49 mpg and diesel being 10p a litre more expensive the petrol is cheaper to run until 125000 miles. -
Legal wrangle , liability issue. 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I recently bought a Peugeot 2008 reg, 47000 miles .tidy thing generally good condition. I did all the usual checks, HPI ,checking with the manufacturer to see if any warranty or recalls had been done on the car, to check the mileage ,when they were done .no problems with the mileage were detected. -

A reliable people carrier - Suggestions for a good value 7 Seater ? 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
VW Touran - probably quite expensive, avoid the 1.6 maybe ? What of the Citroen C8 / Peugeot 806 / Fiat Ulysse triumvirate ? I recall much negative publicity about build quality and reliability but did this get sorted on later ones ? The newer Toyota Previa, not sure how cheap these will be, I'd go for the D4D myself but I guess the auto 2.4 petrols are cheaper (but thirsty) ? -
Volkswagen Jetta (2006 - ) - 1.4 TSI 122PS v Seat Leon 1.4 TSI 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
We don't want to change the car every 3 years, we want to keep it for years but we want a car we can rely on and which will not cost a fortune in repairs. I know that diesel might be an answer but after so many problems with our previous car - Peugeot (new dual mass fly-wheel, diesel particulat filter and so on, you name it)we don't want to have another diesel car. What do you think? Can you please help? Thank you, Jana -
How quickly does a car look old fashioned ? 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Maybe it's just me but I find cars can go from being contemporary to looking old fashioned really suddenly. If you take some commonplace models such as Mondeo mk3s, Peugeot 406s, Previous model Passats etc. they all were and still are a daily sight on the road. So commonplace as to disappear against the roadscape. The latest one to look old fashioned in my opinion anyway, is the Mondeo Mk3. -
FIAT Doblo (2001 - ) - 05 1.9 Particulate filter blocked 27 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Would really like screwloose to give me some advise as he seems to be very clued up on this after reading a few of his replies in the Peugeot, Citreon Topics. Has anyone ever been advised when buying a Fiat or any car that has this system on of the added service costs? This van wasDealer serviced and never had the additive topped up and when enquiring about what it does etc none of the mechanics had a clue didn't even seem to no that the exhaust had this self buring thing in it! -
Small-medium sized used diesel hatch £3-4k 12 May 2008 (Forum)
The car is 14 years old and has a staggering 222k on the clock and as such the cost of getting these 2 items sorted is lilkely to be exceed the value of the car. The cars I am considering, in order of preference are as follows:- 1. Peugeot 307 HDi (although I have heard they are not as good to drive as 306?) 2. Focus 1.8 TDi/ TDCi (good handling, latter engine is better?) 3, VW Golf TDi (poor handling compared with Focus/306?) 4. -
3 years of a C220 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
servicing I have farmed out to a local indy, also a one man band and believe it or not a servicing deal from the local Peugeot main dealer! They work out at around £150 a go once a year and I get the oil done every six months for about £50. Breakdowns have not occurred but the local main dealers did come out once to replace a sensor (£35) Other parts, Battery New radio £120 (Halfords) Both sets of pads £120 a time fitted 4 tyres- £200 ish Kit for the cylinder head £8 and £50 fitting ( mine as an older car gets 50% discount on labour Got some small rust spots around the rear wheel arch and under the front doors..taken in and fixed free of charge Usual fluid top ups does well over 40 mpg on a run- apart from the odd bulb or two thats it -and MOTS of course.
