Omega Rear Blind... 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I've fitted rear courtesy lights as the apertures are already present in the grab handles, just need to run some wiring to the front courtesy lamp now for supplying them. Regards Simon -
water vapour injection sysytems 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Ever notice how much smoother your car runs on misty or foggy days? Its because the air drawn into the intake is denser with the water particles in it (I think). I've checked the fuel consumption on my car(old model Mondeo diesel)on days like this, and it is slightly better than on 'normal' days. -
Audi A6 Avant v BMW 5 Series Touring 15 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Apart from Climate Control I'm relaxed about spec. and intend to keep it for 2 - 3 yrs. I do about 25k per annum. Any thoughts on the conparison between running costs for the two cars? I'm not too concerned about depeciation, just servicing, routine maintenance and reliability. -
AX diesel accelerator sticks 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Blipping the accelerator always seems to sort the problem out - but then it's the last thing the wife thinks of doing when the car's trying to run away into the car in front. -
First Oil Change 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I've just run a new Toyota Celica 190 and am wondering when to change the oil The dealer / manual say 10k miles but surely its better for the car to do it before then ( say after 2-3k ?) The reason being as the oil coats the pistons it will get tiny slivers of metal within it which are residual from the cars build. -
Leaking Volvo 29 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My colleague runs a Volvo 340 G Reg with 130,000 on the clock. He is having considerable problems with a leaking cooling system which a main Volvo dealer has been trying to resolve over 2 months - so far unsuccessfully. -
Rover 820 injector question 17 Sep 2001 (Forum)
A mate runs a Rover 820 as part of his "bangernomics" philosophy but has become attached to the car. It has just failed it's MOT on emissions and was told it needs new injectors (multipoint system?) at a cost of £800, obviously out of the question to him. -
Stalling Golf Mk 3 10 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Hi, Mk3 Golf 1.8 Auto 1992/93 with Bosch single Point injection. Starts OK from cold but then splutters and stalls. It'll restart OK and runs fine when warm. Had the coolant temperature sender unit replaced but still not fixed. My mechanic cannot fix it and suggest VAG dealers who have the diagnostic machines. Somebody on a previous Polo problem message suggests the manifold heater? -
Finance Insurance 14 Mar 2001 (Forum)
My new insurer does not offer this option. Does anyone know if I can get cover for this item alone? my policy doesn't run out until September, and I don't really want to wait that long before finding a better insurance deal. Thanks. -
Grade of Petrol 20 Nov 2000 (Forum)
I've got a 2.0 Focus ESP and am slightly disappointed with the fuel consumption - I get 28 mpg on my daily commute, 32 mpg on a long run. I do have a heavy right foot though! I was wondering if I switched to 97 octane from the 95 I cuurently use if I would get better mpg and performance.. Ford recommend 95 octane Also you may wish to know that my car was recalled for a brake master cylinder change - this isn't in your list of recalls -
Finally got a long drive in the Superb iV 27 May 2021 (Forum)
Compared to the purchase price and running costs of the V60 T4 we were considering its certainly a good buy. -
Citroen C Crosser 2.2 HDi (currently) - replacing a diesel SUV ? with what? 2 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Real MPG is a despectable low 40s (most of the time the C Crosser gets less than 30, in fact to be truthful really mid 20s except for on long motorway runs which it sees only a dozen or so times a year) SUV's are massively popular, but generally diesel, and we all know Diesel is NOT the future therefore you would think a Hybrid SUV whould get plenty of attention. -
Ford Fiesta 1999 V-reg 1.25 Zetec-SE - Running & idling problems, DTC codes - help please 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hello everyone My 1999 V-reg Fiesta has been suffering from the dreaded idling & running problems and I've been following the usual advice. It sometimes tries stalling when approaching junctions, it seems the engine is trying to kep the revs up and is sometimes kangarooing when trying to change down through the gears to second while slowly coming to a halt. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.7 Diesel. Wierd fault: fuel stop / cut off so 28 Nov 2009 (Forum)
(So it will run for a total of 12-15 seconds regardless of whether you try to turn it off after 1 second or 11 seconds). It's absolutely fine if you don't switch it off within that time. My neighbour (whose car it is) has never notice the fault, but has probably never tried to stop the engine immediately after starting it! -
Running a BMW.. 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Evo clocked a 330i @ 5.9 seconds to 60. But a 3 is only acceptable as a facelift Sport. What am I to expect in terms of running costs? Is there a reputation for unreliability or will a BMW will be a largely trouble free, well built car with the odd expensive service and large tyre bill? Are any of the engines a particular reliability nightmare? -
Advice on second hand car purchase 17 May 2024 (Forum)
Morning All, After some advice from you helpful people as I'm on a dreadful run of buying cars that let me down within a couple of years despite my best efforts into researching them! My Skoda Octavia just died after melting it's inlet manifold, it's been at the garage for a week and they can't find out why it's happened - only option from them is a full strip of the engine which would cost way more than the cars current value (it's done 144,000 and lasted me only 15 months). -
Astra H 1.6 petrol - Should I have my Repairs done? 8 May 2023 (Forum)
I do have a few mates who just buy old diesels and run them until they fail the mot or go wrong then spend another 1500 on another one. Doesn’t sound like a bad idea as long as you get a good one. I have no idea what diesels are decent. -
Ford Focus Mk2 - Cabin air intake vents 4 Feb 2023 (Forum)
This is a general question about the air intake vent that runs across the top of the engine bay, just under the windscreen. My daughter's car has a slight smell inside the cabin. After driving with the blowers on for about half an hour, although I can't put my finger on the nature of the mild smell, I did start to taste something at the back of my throat. -
Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Rough idling and stalling when revs drop from high 5 Sep 2021 (Forum)
This is what it sounds like on tiockover and towards the end I pull the icv connector off, and not a huge amount of difference... https://youtu.be/8-nCKOwwCho I have no idea if I should notice it when running (altho' thinking about oit, it probably doesn't do the ecu any good) ps pleae ignore the tappet noise, it's always been like that ... it the hard of breathing bit is the new problem When the car is running, it still has its amazing performance .. -
Opel Omega 2.0 8v - Engine Performance Problem 13 Dec 2020 (Forum)
But i asked some mechanics, some say spark plugs and wires, some say ignition coil, one said MAF sensor fault. I tried unplugging MAF sensor while running, idle is dropped little and started shaking. When i push the gas, popped and stopped. There wasn't an engine light while trying this. Here is the confusion begins. I never saw an engine light on dash, not even ignition is on.
