  • Rover 218TD - diesel injector pump 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I have an M-reg 218TD, with 160k on the clock. Yesterday, the injector pump went, and started gushing out fuel on what I've been told, the pulley-side. Anyway, it's due for a service - in fact, it was booked in for next weekend! :) I've been told that injector pumps aren't cheap - £200+ was quoted. It has to be done, I know that, but what else should I also change, apart from cam belt, vacuum pump belt, oil and the filters?
  • Slow to return to idle 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The car has been used for short journeys so could this be caused by a build up of deposits? If so, is something like STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner likely to clear the problem? Thanks.
  • Yet more Vectra MIL questions 7 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Engine starts OK, after 4/5 seconds idling MIL comes on and stays on until you give the throttle a meaty prod after which it stays off. Other symptoms, engine seems flat, esp at lowish revs, and fuel consumption up. So far dealer has confirmed there is a fault and has tried tightening up all the turbo hose clips. Where next? Air flow sensor? Any other sensor? Multiplug or other loom fault?
  • the answer to all my problems? 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I've just bought one of those Ecotek things off the net. Hopefully it will live up to its expectations - better performance, smoother drive, better fuel economy? sounds too good to be true. I've bought one for my 1.8 Astra CDi (1989) and my bros bought one for his 2.0 Ecotec (ironic) Cavalier. Just waiting for delivery. Well if its rubbish its got a 30 day warranty so i can send it back.

About 5mpg better than my old XUD Xantia when thrashed but 10MPG better then I've ever seen at the best. Then I do like to convert some fuel to heat via the brakes. David
  • TOLEDO. OCTAVIA,BORA PETROL V DIESEL 16 Jul 2001 (Forum)
so its a OCTAVIA, TOLEDO before the BORA >>> Now the technical question for you boys in the backroom >>>>> Do i buy the petrol 1600 or the diesel 1900 tdi . Yes i know fuel consumption will be much better with the diesel but what about longevity for the engine which is the easiest to maintain considering 10 year lifespan and mileage of probably 8-9 k per year , mainly in short bursts with occasional good burst once a week.
  • Fully Expensed Car Pitfalls 25 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Always having had to pay my own way on these things, I am unsure as to the penalties that this new 'perk' will bring to my pocket. Will I be taxed to the point of pain, or be able to put all fuel on the company card without worrying? Also on another front, I will be sorry to have to say goodbye to my Citroen ZX XUTD. It is the best motoring decision I ever made. All 143k miles of it! Any comments greatly accepted on either disposing of the ZX, or the pitfalls of the 'perk'.
  • Jerky Mondeo 25 Apr 2001 (Forum)
The problem persists.I feel I should take it to a ford dealer as they may recognise the problem but am worried about expensive suggestions that do not solve the problem.I am wondering if it could be the clutch or fuel supply system.Any suggestions??
  • Nissan Pulsar - Best used sub-£10k pothole proof SUV? 7 May 2025 (Forum)
I’m sure most of the “soft roaders” out there will be no tougher than my Nissan. I do a very low mileage so not too concerned about fuel consumption but no diesel, please. And would need to be ULEZ compliant, certainly not paying the Khan tax!  Suggestions welcome.

  • Nissan Juke - Is melting classed as a fire 17 Mar 2025 (Forum)
My Wife's car was running on the driveway and then just stopped. Dashboard dead when trying to turn it over, and no electrical functions anywhere. Full tank of fuel, oil ok and nothing obviously visible. Tried to jump it and nothing either. My garage has found that the main fuse had blown and the wiring leading off it had melted and fused together. The garage has said that it is a "catastrophic electrical failure", and it is likely going to cost the value of the car to repair.
  • Focus Mk 1 - Dash not working, no dial movement 22 Feb 2025 (Forum)
The car starts but i am getting no movement from speed and rev dials, and the miles dont show and the oil and fuel still show in the mid position .  teh dash appears to not be getting power. i have checked fuses 35, 36, 41, 61  and they seem fine.  I get the "lights" around the dash which is fuse 35 or 36 but nothing else.
  • SsangYong Korando 2021 - 3 year update 28 Dec 2024 (Forum)
The answer would be yes.. subject to having a dealer less than 60 miles away, ( Prestons in Chelmsford were 20 0dd miles but now have nothing to do with Ssangyong )  but saying that have not needed for anything other  than routine servicing and a recall, with the exception of a coil pack failure just after I bought it and a recall for a steering bracket check. Servicing in Wymondham now. Seats as comfortables as ever and fuel economy although not brilliant locally is  acceptable on a longer trip. 2 new tyres this summer as inner sides getting well worn.
  • Kia Sorento KX2 2011 - braking 17 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Recently my brakes started behaving strange. If I braked hard the car seem to go ok but it was obviouly dragging on the brakes because the fuel consumption started falling on the computer read out, but once home and left overnight the car drove fine the next day with consumption rising again, I thought it might be my brakes calipers sticking on, so I replaced all 4 calipers, and its been fine for about two weeks, then I braked hard again the other day and the same thing started happening with the consumption falling. are there any reasons that this maybe happening aprt fri  sticky brake calipers?
  • Vauxhall Mokka 2015 CDTI - Acrid Smell From Exhaust 4 Dec 2024 (Forum)
It is noticeable as soon as the engine is turned on. It passed it's MOT in August with no advisories. I have tried a fuel cleaner and a cat cleaner but these have made no difference. The engine is running fine and there are no warning lights on the dashboard. Does anyone know what the cause could be ? About a year ago there was a leak from the turbo hose which was replaced.
  • VARS Drive Off Notice 4 May 2024 (Forum)
The CCTV photo is useless - its the same model and colour, but you can't read the number plate at all. They maintain it is us, and we're responsible for paying the fuel (only £25 but its the principle!). They won't provide a better image because of GDPR but they want us to provide photos of our car. If we don't pay up within 14 days they start escalating fees and threatening debt collection.
  • BMW 1 Series - Buying a car 5K Range - 116i/MX5 NC/C30 21 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Was looking at volvo c30 or 2l mx5 but i know they’re rust buckets and prob not great for your only car and a daily. Prefer manual petrol but a bit of efficient fuel consumption would be nice. I’ve listed this below as it’s my current catch and think it’s a good deal for mileage love the idea of rwd - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310263349508

Electronic problem ? Any suggestions?  I intend to monitor progress until needing more fuel, when I shall add some V-power, which usually has a detectable effect on running.

  • 1995 Corsa B 1.2 - Corsa B No Spark not starting - help appreciated! 28 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I've tried replacing the ignition amplifier and coil and still no luck. The internet seems to suggest crankshaft sensor (and it doesn't smell of fuel when I try to start it) but I can't find the sensor for the life of me. Potentially it doesn't have one as it's a distributor cap model so timing is done by the rotor arm?   Any help greatly appreciated!!
