• Garages - am I being paranoid? 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
  Wife phones me and says garage say the rear blade (a favourite in my experience)is knackered and so is the alternator belt (on a 2 yr old 25k car!)do we want them changed (at our cost, despite the car still being under warranty). Tell them no says I. I get back home and inspect the rear wiper blade and sure enough it is ripped to a length of approx one inch from the end.

  Now what to do? The vehicle is covered under the manufacturers warranty and paintwork warranty and I WILL expect this to be honoured should any problems arise but my concerns are more deep rooted. I don't really want to change the car but am concerned that come re-sale this will affect the value.

  So basically, where do we stand with this pls? Oh and we have a 3 mth warranty on the car. My partner has rang the garage to tell them the insurance companies not paying out, and the bloke who sold us the car is supposedly ringing us back today. Cheers, Karen

  I had a bad experience with the previous year's service at the main dealer closer to where I work, so decided to try the one local to home. On picking the car up, they informed Mrs Nomag they had found an oil leak from the diff, and needed the car in for further investigation and to remedy, for two days. So the car was duly booked in and a courtesy car arranged.

  The car was bought from a fairly large used car dealer. They are saying for us to contact VW to try and get them to arrange a repair or give a goodwill gesture towards repair and the used car dealer will also contribute to this repair - but we will have to also contribute to this repair!?

  I've recently purchased a secondhand car on finance and the car has been plagued with fault since I bought it. I've owned the car for four weeks now and I've only had use of it for six days as the rest of the time it's been in dealers being repaired.

  My rationale is to use the money I can save to have the car fully serviced and even buy an extended warranty (I know many of you don?t like them but it may be worth if something goes really wrong) and I should still have some cash left.

  the car is still under warranty, but the main dealer is 20 miles away so I'd rather use that as a last resort.

  I'm currently driving a 2010 VW Scirocco 170TDI (55,000 on the clock) and am mulling trading it in for a new small car - as it's now our "second" car and not very family friendly compared to my wife's Golf (baby number 2 on the way). I'm only using it for the odd commute etc. - probably only 6,000 a year if that (and not as many long journeys as I used to, so worried about DPF or EGR problems creeping in).

  I also suspect that the VIN contains the proof I need that the car is European spec, as all US Mentors (or whatever they call them over there) start with KNAFB while UK/Euro ones appear to have KNEFB - A for Asian or American, E for Euro? If I give the VIN of my car can anyone out there confirm what precise information it gives about my car.

  Hi all, I need some advice if possible. 3 1/2 months ago i purchased a 2010 Peugeot 3008 from a used car dealership. It came with a 3 month warranty. On Tuesday night it broke down and the display was showing "Gearbox error". I had it towed to the garage i purchased it from and although they haven't given me an estimate on the repair cost, it's obvious from emails and phone calls that they intend to charge me normal parts / labour costs.

  Same part used on Audi A3. I would not expect to be replacing rear wheel bearings this early on in cars life! Is this a design problem? Bearing quality issue or possibly lack of lubrication....but meant to be sealed for life.

  I have a Golf bought brand new exactly two years ago. Mileage is 15,000 and it is used daily. Just had the car serviced and am told The car Ned's new rear discs and pads. I looked at the damage and it looks like the pads have never been in contact with the parts of the disc which is damaged (Rusty).

  I've booked it into a Citreon garage who are going to take a look at it. Has anyone experienced this and how much did a repair set you back? The car does have a 12 month Citroen Select used car warranty (it's an 06 reg and I bought it last July) - will this problem be covered in that? Thank you

    I had a "B" service carried out on the car in May 2014 at 21k miles at the main dealer that has my car now. When I asked for a print out of the service history they said they could not find a record of the  first "A" but that I should not worry as the car was now fully compliant with warranty requirements as it had just been serviced by them.

  Garages are no longer very interested in anything over 8-10 years old, as they have to provide a warranty, yet engines and bodywork last longer than ever, if looked after, and the world seems to be filling up with cars that are nowhere near the end of their useful lives, but that nobody really wants.

  I have already lost faith that they will even want to do the right thing and fix it after already seeing them try and con me by trying to mask the possible flat spot by over reving it. I have a 3 month warranty and it ends next month ion 25th. it says that the dealership needs to fix any problems with the car and the warranty is as if the car was new and i am governed by the same standards as any other when purchasing goods and if faulty request it be fixed.
