• Traffic light cameras - clarification 21 Dec 2008 (Forum)
  I am just getting paranoid, I have only done 10 miles and must have passed at least 8 cameras. This is not a debate on cameras as this had been done couintless times on here, I just want to know how the red light cameras work for future reference. Thanks. Is it possible to get 6 points from these cameras e.g if you are speeding and go through on red?

  Twice this week I have seen a police safety camera van parked to the side of the bridge over the M40 at junction 5 with a series of cameras set up on the bridge scanning the traffic travelling north on the London to Oxford carriageway. Just for luck there was an additional camera set up to catch anybody travelling on the Stokenchurch to Ibstone road that crosses the motorway at this point.

  Unfortunately there are no independent witnesses to the lights - however, the lights do appear to have red-light cameras. Two questions; 1) Can I use the lack of a penalty notice (as I'm sure the lights were green) as evidence that the lights were in my favour? I've written to the council asking if the camera was operational. 2) Would a cyclist passing a red light trigger a camera, or do they only respond to cars?
