  • Clio electrics...fob,radio etc 14 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a 98 S reg 1.4 RT Clio with a couple of annoying problems. 1) Remote key doesn't work, I've changed the batteries but still no light on the key!! 2) Radio doesn't work, it lights up, so there is power getting to it but nothing happens when I try and switch it on! 3) The display in the centre of the dash shows nothing, is this connected to the radio?
  • BMW 318 1993 Have I got Remote C/L 28 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Is there anything I can look for without dismantling the doors that would indicate that there should be remote c/locking on the car or is it easier to try and replace the battery on the key and see what happens? Cheers, Stuart
  • Mazda 626 Electrical Fire 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
However it doesn't seem to explain why the car continues to run after you've turned off the ignition and removed the key. Not a rough idle like run on. Actually continues to purr away. If you remove a battery lead, it stops and once the lead is replaced, it runs okay again. Anyone aware of ignition wiring that runs through the ABS loom?
  • A different type of starting problem 9 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If however I stall when the engine is warm, the starter motor refuses to turn at all... if I wait for the engine to cool a little, the starter motor will turn begrudginly - like I've got a flat battery (I haven't) the SM will only turn at full speed when the engine is cold... New alternator, rectifier checked, head sent away to exclude cracks, my mechanic has now run out of ideas... Any help out there?
  • Renault clio diesel non start 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've asked her to check when she gets home to put the lights on and try turning it over to ascertain if its a battery problem - which I don't think it is. Anyone out there any ideas as to what the problem is?? As always your help is appreciated -- These are the views of Robin the Technician with 35 years in the trade.
  • Zafira alarm problem 15 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have been told by some really helpful people that this is a common problem/fault yet no one can tell me what is causing it or how to rectify it. I have had the battery tested and its fine, there is nothing loose in the car that could be triggering the sensors, so I am at a loss as to what to try next. If all else fails could I remove the fuse that relates to the alarm without it affecting anything else in the car?
  • Renault Scenic Auto Gearbox 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
This did improve things slightly but has gone back to it's old tricks. Does anyone know how to reset the gearbox, or do I simply take one of the battery terminals off for a while?
  • volvo940 engine mangement system problem 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Several trips to local Volvo garages have not found a problem and all that seems to be being done is the battery is disconnected, left a few minutes and then re-connected again which re-sets the dashboard warning light and I get charged £20! Any thoughts anyone? I dont want to junk the car as i am some what attached to it.
  • Keeping a camera in the car 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Although many mobile phones now incorporate a camera of sorts, I vaguely remember reading that digital images have no legal standing because they are so readily manipulated. On top of this, phone batteries have an uncanny knack of being flat when you need them most! So should I just go to Superdrug and buy a disposable 35mm every few months or so?

  • Audi A4 Starting Problem 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
When the fault occurs, the only way to solve it is continued cranking until (after several flat batteries) the engine splutters into life. Apart from this sporadic problem the engine runs quietly and without problems. Please any ideas, suggestions???? Cheers Chris

I'm worried that the glow plugs need replaced and these cost c£45 each! My hope is that it's just the battery that needs renewed. Cheers
  • Galaxy Trouble 29 Jan 2006 (Forum)
This is accompanied by a loud clicking noise which sounds like a combination of the ignition turning on and off and the gearbox isolation switch for the auto box. Initial thought were battery although this has charge and we have tried to jump start it but it behaves exactly the same. Also keeps asking for the radio code. Could this be a major electrical problem or perhaps the starter motor?
  • 00/01 Merc C320 total electrical failure 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I would normally say "Earth" for something like this, but unless the instrument cluster has a backup battery, this appears unlikely to be the cause. Ideas? Nothing apparently relevant in the CBCB. As I say, the car's at a Merc dealer who couldn't fix it immediately, but it's got me interested.
  • Rover 416i non starting 12 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Changed distributor cap and rotor arm to eliminate. Sparks OK. Valve and Igniton Timing seems OK. Fuel appears OK. Battery charged fully. All electrical connections appear OK.Compression check carried Out . All cylinders appear OK. When attempting to start after initial attempt then engine does not fire at all and just turns over with no sign of life.
  • Mondeo TD Glow Plugs 19 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Couple of people have said the Glow plugs might need changing. Could this be the case or could it be something else? (Battery seems good). If it is the glow plugs are they easy to change? (As easy as spark plugs)? If they are can someone point me in the right direction. Many thanks, Dave
  • Main dealer servicing micra-exortionate! 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello, The battery terminal clamp on my 1999 Micra was badly corroded, so I took it to the main dealer at deleted - DD , to replace the part. They said they could not replace the clamp on its own - they'd have to replace the whole unit (i.e. cables and everything etc), at a cost of £199 for the whole unit, with labour on top.
  • Ford Focus central locking 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
This morning I used the remote key to unlock the car and it would'nt work.So when I tried unlocking it manually it triggered off the alarm.I thought it would stop after switching on the ignition but continued several times on and off on my journey.Eventually I found by locking the drivers door from the inside helped switch the alarm off.The other ploblem is ,when Ive locked the door from the inside ,I cannot re-open it ,because it stays locked and so I have to climb out of the passenger side.Could this just be down to buying a replacement battery for the key or is it the diagnostics.
  • Rover 600 starting problems 3 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My rover 600 diesel 98 model has starting problems as the weather gets colder or i i leave the car for a day or two. I had battery replaced and my garage replaced 3 of the 4 glow plugs. He said the fourth glow plug was behind fuel pump and would take longer. everything seemed ok put as the weather has got colder it is taking longer to start.
