  This appears to be exactly what the advice is not to do but I have had no issues at all. In fact I have only just been made aware that diesel cars have been fitted with DPF's. The reason I've gone for diesels when I only cover 7K mile per annum is because I need a decent sized car for the family and the diesel with lower emmisions keeps the income tax I pay on my company cars manageable.

  I'm on my second BMW 118d SE.  My current one (40k miles) was inherited after 15k miles from a colleague.  I covered 80k trouble free miles in the first vehicle. Recently and without warning I've been having problems engaging third gear.  First it baulked and needed careful handling to get the car into third gear.

  Hi there, I've just bought a used BMW from a used car dealer. It was sold with a 3 month warranty, and a 160 point 'check' which seems to cover very little, except major failures. I've found 2 faults: 1. The tracking is out on the front, so the drivers side tyre is bald on the inner shoulder, almost down to the steel, its needs replacing, as it could blow if left to wear down more.

    The air intake unit and pipe located on front grill, and air filter box have all been changed and still noise is there.  The air pipes have been removed up to Air Flow meter and the under car engine cover have been removed to eliminate them, car, driven and again noise is still audible.  It has been suggested the intercooler but the car certainly doesnt suffer lack of power, a bit of smoke under harsh acceleration but not under normal conditions.

  Went along to a spares palace today to pick up a part for my car -- £60-ish for a glove box cover. While in there another person asked for a wiper relay -- I did not manage to hear the make of his car but the spares place deals in five makes of the average type of car, not Mercs or BMW.

  Im a bit reluctant to put the drop tester over it im guessing this is still under a 3yr warranty? the car is a 56 reg, vx will know by the burn marks on the terminal somebody has been "playing" Are these covered by warranty before i go moaning to vauxhall? is it a swap it and no charge to me?   When somebody turns the key, you feel a suction on the palm of your hand, then i remove it quickly and the car starts...usually takes 2-3 tries. If the car has been runing within the last 8 hours, it starts without any problems. Im wondering...whats the problem, and what should be replaced? What model carburettor is in the car?

  I took it to the local garage who cleaned the trottle body out and replaced the rocker cover gaskets on both sides. The car seemed to run fine after this for a short time. Also the oil leak is still present with the smell of burning oil on the exhaust and I now appear to be losing my coolant water.

  (headline corrected) I was looking at changing our spare estate car (T reg mondeo) that only covers about 4k a year, for something a little bit more stylish. It is used to lug stuff around but sometimes I do take it to clients (companies) as our main cars are impractical for carrying everything.

  Was picked up by the dealer and returned later in the day, cleaned, valeted etc and without costing me a penny (apart from the upfront cost of buying the car of course!). Great, but... Yesterday was the first time I'd moved it in daylight, and our new drive was covered in what appeared to be oil. I at first assumed it was engine oil, but on closer inspection the car is dripping something from all four corners (dripping from suspension behind the wheels) which doesn't feel oily itself but seems to contain grease/grime within it and this has seriously stained the drive.

  It didn't occur to me until the weekend, but the passenger side airbag on the C5 doesn't have a airbag compartment cover like most cars. So, in the event of the airbag operating, it will ruin the top section of the dashboard, which will require replacement which, no doubt, is going to be an expensive item. Does anyone know of any other cars with this design foible?

  On mine the belly pan is ripped where it covers the sump. These are treated as rep-mobiles ( ie 800-1000 miles a week - mostly motorway miles) Previous cars where a t reg 2.0LS Vectra and a r reg Peugeot 406 1.8 - (not exactly known for amazing handling.)

  I visited a main dealer recently and couldn't believe how bad their car park was. To enter the car park you need to cross an uneven pavement, which is covered in scrapes where cars have dragged their bellies in the past. I went slowly and was ok in my car (good ground clearance), but if you had purchased something new and sporty then I'm not sure how you would get it in and out.

  We're told by Mazda that it would cost £9,000 to replace the engine! Bought the car for just under £15,000 using a personal loan to be paid over 5 years so basically we are stuck with it!  We were sold an RAC warranty covering up to £2,000 towards repairs by the garage we bought it from, however our claim has been declined as they don't cover oil contamination!
