  • Accident management companies 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I took down her registration number, contacted the police and found out her name and contact no. Today I took the car for an estimate and was told that my back-panel is in need of repair, that the tailgate is also broken and that there is a danger of exhaust fumes entering the car so I must drie with the window open at all times (but he didn't say not to drive it).
  • 500 - Fiat 500 wiring loom failure 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
The more it is used the earlier the wiring will fracture and break, for instance, daily use for shopping or letting a dog in and out. The main dealer solution to this car was a £600 fit of a new wiring loom. However, with a little patience there is a simple repair that costs about a £1. First, pull some loom through the gaitor from the C pillar., then remove the internal tailgate pressed board cover to reveal the wiring connections, disconnect the two rear heated window connections, the rearwiper motor connection and undo the rear lock which allow you to pull some loom through from the tailgate.

  • Insurance, tax and SORN question 20 Feb 2012 (Forum)
If an ANPR picked him up, he will be fined I presume. His saving grace is the car went straight to a garage for an MOT. However, the truth is while it did go to his friends garage, it did not go for an MOT. Surely the police would not allow someone to hide behind this technicality as an excuse and would investigate?
  • Reanualt Clio 2 - Clio 2 2004 1.2 16v - Rough Running 15 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hope this helps someone, have a 2004 clio 1.2 16v which apart from a new clutch a few months ago has been faultless for its 82,000 mile life, serviced correctly by independant garage and started to run rough with engine light flashing on and off. Read all the posts about the ECU cover chomping through the loom and checked this, 1 wire bare but not cut, could have been sending to earth so not helpful ( really stupid cover design Renault a monkey could have forseen issues there !).
  • Sat Nav software updates 28 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The Connect Nav into which they used to be inserted is long gone (shudder) Opitimism perhaps, that it might still be grinding away almost nine years later..I grimace at the memory, but once paid around £300 in 2002 for European discs. Then there were the follow on Garmin, stand alone units  (in the follow on cars)  - You got one free map update on purchase - then it was back to paying for updates and the camera POI`s - though i never bothered.  Built in batteries too - and little hard drives whirring away as they covered Europe.

  • Insurance while selling a car 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, Lined up a replacement for our 10 year old Yaris and hopefully pick it up in the next few days (not local to me so arranging logistics). I plan to sell the old Yaris privately so need have the car insured still. I have a car and my wife has a car already so for a period of time (not to long hopefully) we will have 3 cars between us. I've quickly looked at short term insurance and so far the best i've been offered is £50 for 28 days cover by my current insurer (Churchill).
  • Bought car on ebay, deposit via paypal 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
He got there and it was dark (about 11pm). The seller would not let him test drive the car until the deal was done...ie all the money handed over. The money was paid and the car driven home. On arriving home the next daya few faults were discovered which were not mentioned in the ad : Dent on boot lid Stereo not working Engine Cover missing.
  • New car for mother. 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We hope to spend around 5k on this car. The car will only cover at most 6k a year so fuel economy is irrelevant. Reliability is an important criterion for the new vehicle as it will be required every weekday without fail, so no Renaults.
  • 70+mph 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)

  • Buying new car before selling old car 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
However i am too young to have DOC on my insurance, and would like to avoid having to insure both cars for what is likely to be a period of around one week. Would it be legal to allow potential buyers to test-drive the car, assuming that they have their own DOC cover? Otherwise, is there any chance of my insurers cutting me a deal of say a two week overlap to enable me to sell the car?
