  • Ford Maverick I (1993 - 1997) - 93 2.7D Washer fuses! 18 May 2009 (Forum)
In any case, I have checked all these fuses (none of which is labelled for the washers anyway) but none blown. So... Any ideas where the fuse(s) for the windscreen and headlamp washers would be? Any other thoughts on what could be causing this problem? Doubt it's connections at the pumps as neither functions. As a secondary point, does anyone know where I can get some accurate electrical diagrams for this model?
  • Why is 'purchase price' a factor with insurance? 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Sounds fair enough, but what are the implications for both quote and any future payout? Consider the following situations: 1) I win the vehicle in "Tom Champagne"'s Reader's Digest Prize Draw or somesuch. Purchase price zero.... 2) The car is inherited or gifted from a relative for a nominal £1.... 3) My superior bargaining skills get the car for a knock-down never-to-be-repeated price - say 50% of its market value..... 4) The car is purchased as an ex-lease company car at its written-down value.....
  • Polite Sign in rear window 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
When it's safe of course or they might 'do' you as well :) So I passed when it was safe and it was a little old Granny, she must of been in her 80's and gave me a big smile and cheery wave. She must of been driving at around 23mph, normally I'd be annoyed at someone travelling so slow, but the notice in her rear window made me chuckle. Lee
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1993 1.9 Which wheels fit my 405? 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Do some dealers use a different way of measuring that is 'equivalent' to 185/65/14? 4. Could i put 15's on if i wanted? Does it change the handling and how? 5. Can i put wider wheels on? and how...what would i need to change? Thanx in advance, Neil.
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 94 1.8 Suspension problems? 19 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Difficult to describe but you just seem to have to fight to drive it anywhere near smoothly. Any thoughts as to the cause(s)? New shocks needed? many thanks, James
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.4 Oily marks on bodywork. 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I noticed some oily spattering on the offside of swmbo's Astra this pm. A quick once over sees the whole of the o/s wheel arch lined with something, but nothing on the wheel/tyre. Engine oil a bit low, and topped up accordingly, no sign of any surplus oil in the engine compartment She had recently filled up, so first thoughts are a diesel spill at the local superstore.
  • MB London black cab. 10 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It also has rear-wheel steering that lets it meet the capital's strict 25ft turning circle rule and is able to carry two wheelchairs compared to its rival's one. Mercedes claims it will also be more fuel efficient. ..... is expected to match the TX4's price tag of £34,000. London TV had significant coverage. • Tyre pressure monitors-Warning. 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
So I've got the spare on the front and a rear valve is decidedly wobbly. I'll be interested to see if the dealer s going to stump up the cost of replacement under warranty. (Getting the car to them is going to be interesting) So f you've got metal dust caps on a car with tyre pressure monitors-TAKE THEM OFF NOW!

  • Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 2003 1.4 Creaking noise 15 May 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1.4 inspire s that is making a creaking noise occasionally when I pull away or when I am accelerating. The creak occurs typically when I am doing below 3000 rpm. The creaking noise is not constant and happens infrequently.
  • Ferrari F149 California (2009 - ) - New Ferrari 14 May 2008 (Forum)
Reminds me of the hours I spent with goosebumps on my neck listening to Mark Hales giving Nick Mason's F40 the absolute treatment round Donington on a free audio cassette with Fast Lane magazine back in the 80's. Some of the "drive by" clips were astonishing with the thing echoing off the armco. Barely silenced at all. Just heavenly. It's nice to hear they're still managing to retain the magic in spite of the EU noise regs.
  • Volvo puts foot in it 9 May 2008 (Forum)
A German court has ruled car maker Volvo has to pay compensation to a man who claimed his feet were too big to use the accelerator on his new car. A judge said the car makers should have catered for Michael Herzog?s size 12 feet. The court ruled his feet were not abnormally large and the judge said the dealer should give the German five per cent off the price of his new car. Under a court-supervised settlement, Herzog obtained a £1,350 refund to pay for a specially made pair of shoes that allowed him to squeeze his foot into the space.
  • Too Good To Be True? 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I don't want to post the ad because it might be completely genuine but the basic details are that the car is coming up to its 3rd birthday but has the mileage you might expect on its 10th birthday. It?s has full MB service history. I?ve told the friend to contact the dealer who carried out the servicing and, when they look at the car tonight, to note the VIN on the body and the engine (any pointers to where these might be on an A-Class?)
  • Chrysler Voyager (2001 - 2004) - Voyager - Garage trying it on? 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 207 (2006 - ) - 2006 1.4 16v S90 - Best way of selling? 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
    I want to exchange it for a Suzuki Swift. What's the best way of doing so and how much do you reckon I'll get for it? It's a 16v S 90 A/C 56 plate. Thanks {subject header altered to make less vague}
  • Selling safely 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I will ask their bank to confirm that payment will be honoured (something the Scottish banking system permits but the English one doesn?t.) That commits the bank to the transaction. I haven?t had the car HPI checked and it?s possible that a potential buyer may wish to do this early in the process. What would be the appropriate response to a request for the registration mark/VIN in order to have this carried out? Should I get an HPI check done myself?
  • Volvo S70/V70 (1996 - 2000) - 98 V70 T5 erratic idle and stall fault a mystery 10 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I really need some advice or help here. The car is an S-Reg Volvo V70 T5 and when the engine is switched on it idles at between 2,000 rpm and 3,500 rpm. It is consistently revving up and down between the rpm I just mentioned. When I put my foot on the accelerator so as to drive it, it just stalls.
  • Clean sheet car designs. 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A few I can think of are the Rover P6 2000 of 1963, the Hillman Imp from around the same time and the Citroen GS of the early 70's. Another obvious one is the VW Beetle. Presumably the Bugatti Veyron is was an all-new design too, even if its W16 engine is loosely based on 2 Audi V8s. I think the Mercedes A-class and the Smart owed nothing to previous designs.

  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - Value Question 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Our company buys our cars outright so no leasing deals to consider, just the value of my car set against the cost of a new one. It is a 2005 / 05 plate Volvo S60 S D5. No extras other than the metalic Magic Blue paint. 81,000 miles on the clock, very good condition and a full service history. Many thanks for your help folks.
