  • Jeep Cherokee - Better places than autotrader up to £4k 21 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I'm getting a bit tired of the extravagant claims dealers make on Autotrader! Anyone have a comment on real world fuel costs for the petrol versions?  And things to watch out for, ie, big jobs that might be coming up if someone is getting rid of one. Thanks chaps.
  • Astra 1.7dti fan relay fault 28 Jun 2014 (Forum)
My Astra 1.7dti suffered from a flat battery I started it using jump leads then when I disconnected the leads the car shut down. I've had the fuel pump ecu replaced a new alternator and battery, yet the EML is still illuminated apparently reading fan relay faults the air con isn't working either. I've replaced the fan contol unit with a second hand one and still have the same fault could I have two faulty fan relay units or is there something else I should look at.

  • Various Ford, VW, Nissan,Dacia etc - Small Cars with 3 Cylinder Petrol Engines 5 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I wonder does anyone have views on the introduction  ( in recent years ) of various cars that have 3 cylinder engines ( some are normally aspirtated some are not ) I appreciate the obvious saving in construction costs & less friction and in theory less fuel consumption BUT are they viable as a reliable engine ?  eg will these engines stand the test of time and provide reliable service for 100,000 miles or more ?   The latest example is the new Nissan Note coming soon.
  • Doing smallish annual mileage..time for a rethink? 16 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Many motorists who do high mileages have to opt for economic fuel consumption but people who do low annual miles may be better with a much larger car. The bigger engined machines tend to last longer and there are some real bargains about....BMWS, Mercs, Volvos etc.
  • Skoda Octavia VRS - Rough Cold Running 10 Dec 2012 (Forum)
When driving it is hesitant between 1750 and 2500 rpm but clears when it gets out of this rev range. It is run on Shell fuel. It has been to my local VAG independant garage for diagnosis. No fault codes were logged and real time data was within expected normal parameters. Any ideas on where to go with this next?

  • Transporter T5 2008 (T28 102ps 75KW) - Remapping a MAF to increase torque and performance 25 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I found improved performance but I have read about remapping the MAF which increases torque, performance and fuel economy. Do you have an opinion on this? There is a respected company in my area which would do it  save a copy of original map and put it back to original if I wished.
  • New car query, economy related 3 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have come to seek advice as I am after a new car, as my current Mitsubishi Galant much as love it, is not the most fuel efficient! I am looking at a 7/8 year old diesel or petrol hatchback, preferably in the 1.4l category which achieves high mpg figures I cover around 200 miles a week mostly on A roads and Motorways with little 'urban' driving.
  • Ford Mondeo Mk3 2Lt petrol Duratec - Low-load misfire 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
when running along with the engine just keeping up with the road speed (much more dramatic in 4th rather than 5th) - the slightest acceleration and on overrun seems to be OK. Also there is a noticeable lack of pulling power up hills and fuel consumption is down about 10%. Can you point me in the right direction to cure this, please?
  • Shell Drivers Club Bonus Points Vouchers 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I have used three now, totally 900 bonus points, but none have been allocated to my account despite purchasing the required volume of fuel in the timespan against each voucher. The first voucher was used on 15 October 2008 and I then had five fills between 10/10/08 & 10/11/08 which was the total required. Any assistance appreciated
  • A4 2.0 TDI 170 2007 - Audi accelerating problem 27 May 2012 (Forum)

  • Toyota Aygo 2007 blue MMT - Aygo intermittent starting problems 13 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Never any problems, now suddenly occasionally won't start, but left for a few minutes will.  It's in the garage so not exceptionally cold or damp. Battery's ok, fuel pump's pumping I can hear it. The engine management light stays on then the "Stop " light flashes, other electrics work. I can't hear the solenoid cutting in. A post elsewhere on the net says some of them needed a startet motor & ignition modification.
  • Skoda Octavia 2010 1.6 diesel - Removing DPF 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It is now beginning to have a rumbling gearbox, but it has always had a tendency to have a stutter on the power delivery, and tends to lose power slightly intermittently (as if the brakes have been lightly applied), and fuel consumption has gradually dropped. I was thinking of removing the DPF and turning off the pressure sensors etc. Anyone any experience of this, and the supply of a DPF "can" so I can refit the original if necessary.
  • Peugeot Boxer 2008 2.2 - Turbo Diesel intermittent Acelleration Issues 15 Dec 2011 (Forum)

  • Audi A3 1.9TDI - Where to buy turbo vacuum lines for a VAG TDI? 4 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Just about to replace (again!) all the vac lines on my A3 1.9TDI.  I previously replaced them using braided, rubber fuel return line (was told this would be fine) - but it's rubbish!  After 6 months the ends on some of the hoses are perishing/cracking already... I don't want to get ripped of by the dealer, so anyone know where I can get decent vac line by the metre?
  • Jeep Cherokee (2000) - Jeep Cherokee Classic (2000) Immobiliser v's Crank 26 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I have a Jeep Cherokee 2000 Classic that after trying to 'bump start' a Vauxhall Signum won't start up.  Tried changing the fuel line, .had an Auto Locksmith re-enter the immobiliser code...but all to no avail. It has been suggested that the Crankshaft Position Sensor is the fault....given that the immobiliser warning light is still flashing...would changing the CPS not only rectify the start up problem but also turn off the immobiliser warning light?
