What happens to the Olympic fleet? 22 Aug 2012 (News)
So if you were hoping there’d be a sudden influx of ex-Olympic cars appearing cheap at auction or on dealer forecourts, you’ll be sadly disappointed – BMW has no plans to sell the cars via the dealer network, nor to auction them, so if you’re looking to lay your hands on a historic Olympic car then you’ll have to bide your time. Nontheless, with the Paralympics around the corner you’ll get to see the exotically coloured Olympic cars around London again soon. -

When it comes to car manufacturers with difficult-to-pronounce names, Poland’s Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych takes some beating. So it’s little wonder this was abbreviated to FSO when its UK-spec cars went on sale in 1981. -

If you like the 2003/53 Jag XJ 3.5V8 in the photo you’ll get another chance at it in Top Car on Monday. The high mileage (65k) car bid to £21,200 today but should come for around £22,000, which is a fair price to get into a two-year-old latest shape XJ V8. MR2 Just £7,400 at Auction 25 Feb 2004 (News)
Also cheap, a 97P E36 M3 with 82k at £9,500; a 59k mile Focus 2.0 Ghia at £4,900, a 93k mile 98S Peugeot 806 7-seater at £4,000; a 50k mile 97P Mazda MX6 auto at £3,750 and an 80k 98R Mondeo 2.0LX estate at just £1,450. A pair of Picasso HDI 90s made an interesting comparison. The three and a bit year old 2000X with 49k miles sold for £6,550, while the eleven month old 03 reg with 19k miles sold for £8,900. That suggests to me that, bought well, you could do 30k over 2 years in a Picasso HDI for about £1,200 a year. -
Are future classics a thing of the past? 15 Jun 2016 (News)
Indeed, the 2014 BMW 3-series that propels me to work and back every day is, to the technologically-minded, an insanely wonderful machine. And therein lies the rub. So advanced is the technology in today’s cars that with them comes built-in obsolescence. How on earth will a home enthusiast be able to maintain a car like that 25 years from now? And why would they, when getting the car to talk to computerised diagnostics will make it uneconomically viable to repair long before any well-maintained ‘old’ car ever would have been. -
SAAB 99 in Friday’s 'Flipping Bangers' 25 Jun 2019 (News)
And there’s a cooling system problem (wasn’t there always with this engine?) Eventually they manage to fix the cooling issue and turn their attention to the look of the car. Flat aluminium panels give the doors the appearance of a rally car, and go-faster stripes outside give some eye appeal. Then all that remains is to sell the car at a profit. This is the last of the 10 part series all about is finding an unloved old car, bringing it back to life, and attempting to double the investment. -
Suzuki SJ Gets the Treatment in 'Flipping Bangers' 14 May 2019 (News)
A lichen coated Suzuki SJ gets hauled out of a scrapyard to be fixed and flipped by Will Trickett and Gus Gregory in Friday’s episode of Flipping Bangers on BLAZE at 9.00pm. To make a living from buying, sorting and selling old and unloved cars, Will and Gus have to reckon on doubling the purchase price on resale. And, for added jeopardy, they only give themselves 5 days to get the job done, starting an online auction of the car as soon as it reaches their workshop. -
