Smoothest riding car you have ever been in? 13 Feb 2021 (Forum)
v=cJLB0AU3-pI Close 2nd would be an LS400 but I think that won on quietness rather than ride quality (although admittedly very good still), in the Lincoln you got the v8 burble, in the Lexus there was near-silence which i think almost gives the illusion of better ride quality. Both were better than a 2007 S-Class I experienced brand new. Any other submissions? Bonus points for anything in the UK market or at least RHD... -
Mercedes E320 - Ford or Mercedes 5 Nov 2016 (Forum)
That's what he's done over his entire motoring life. Over the last ten years he's owned 3 Mercedes', a Jaguar and 4 Lexus's and reckons he's spent less on unexpected bills in that time than I've spent in one year on a Skoda. He buys luxury rather than sporty, one or two owners, full dealer history. At the moment he has a 52 reg S class which has just gone through a service without one additional penny being spent on it. -

Insurer will not renew 9 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Having read on here about serval problems with insurance - Axa declining business and the Lexus NX300h having some sort of easy to steal fault - I was concerned as renewal time is at the end of this month. I had been with LV who suddenly became too expensive a couple of years ago and switched to Axa. -
2022 Range Rover 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I'm not sure that any vehicle in this price range, sold in the UK (otherwise i would say the Lexus LX570 beats it) that offers the same combination of S-Class comfort levels with Defender off-road ability - Range Rovers as the flagship are always benchmarked against the Defender. Now, if only they could sort out the reliability. -
Audi A5 Cabrio (2009 - ) - Test drive 29 May 2009 (Forum)
They had a new E-class coupe in the showroom and it looked a fair bit bigger than the CLK. The only other potential on the horizon is the new Lexus IS convertible, but I suspect the rear legroom wil be designed with the home market in mind - time will tell! I suspect the Eon/308/Focuses will also be too small - is there anything else we've missed? -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Mazda 6 2.0D Sport 5dr Hatch 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Ford's always score in this department in that the 'technology' they build in is always user friendly and you don't usually need to have to resort to a handbook to find your way round to set things up I like the shape of the Mazda and several people have commented on it...it regularly gets mistaken for being a Lexus at first followed by the 'I didn't realise Mazda made cars like that' comment afterwards The driver seat could do with being able to be lowered by another inch or so The Bose sound system is 'ok', but nowhere near as good as the one I had in a Y reg 2.4JTD 156 Veloce a few years back I was originally going to get a 1.8 tdci Titanium X Mondeo but the waiting list put me off. -
Japanese versus the rest. 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've had Renaults, Fords, Peugeots, Rovers.....so don't have an axe to grind but given that you can now get a Jap. to suit all tastes ie. Lexus instead of BMW or Merc. Micra/Yaris instead of Corsa/Pug 206. Landcruiser/Nissan X.Trail instead of Disco/Freelander. MX5 instead of MG. .....why not go for the one that you know won't give you hassle in going back to the dealer's sevice dept.? -
Help me narrow down these choices for me please! 23 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I've not known anyone that's managed to get these cars to high mileage without gearboxes failing or causing major issues. However happy to be proven wrong. Audi Q5; see above. Lexus NX : Can't find any above my budget. Boot seems a bit too small. I am open to suggestions (you guys are the experts!). -
Fiat Qubo 1.3 Multijet 95 Trekking - Engine management warning light 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Finally, I became paranoid about the vehicle, waiting for the engine management light to come on or the dpf to cause a problem. In December I traded the Qubo in against a 62K Lexus IS250 Sport and a 02 Reg Micra for my wife which has really low mileage. Whilst the costs of running both are a good bit more than the Qubo, the peace of mind is blissful! -
USA observations and rip off Britain 31 Aug 2007 (Forum)
blasphemy removed 3.I saw a Toyota Yaris saloon. It looked awful. 4.I also saw what looked like a 3 door coupe version of the current Lexus IS. Didn't seem to work to me. Looked awkward. 5.I noticed an almost complete lack of low profile tyres. Even things like the Mustang have deep tyre walls. Why, particularly when their roads are so much smoother than ours? -
Omega rammed, lessons learned 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Previously I've doubted HJ on automatic left foot braking, but he has it right, so I'm going to learn left foot braking, or it might be me in the car behind one day. 2. Size does matter. I was in my Omega, he was in a Lexus. Had I been in a small hatchback, I believe I'd have been much worse off. 3. It reinforces my belief in the training I received on the skid pan. I might have recovered anyway, but the recent lesson probably helped me to react. 4. -
Choosing a second car - ideas? 10 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Can?t even be bothered to go to their showroom, but at least they have Lexus, and I could be tempted by an old shape IS200/IS300. I also sat a varietry of Golf variants and without failure felt that the quality of interior was a step down from previous generation and since I drove a Bora SE for 2 years, the current models didn? -
Goodbye 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I've annoyed a lot of people in the past. I have a habit of wittering on which can get annoying (remember the Lexus thread?) but hopefully I've not annoyed a lot more! Some good, and very funny people have left. But some other very good (and equally funny) have joined. The likes of Al, Patently and Mark (when he had the chance to rip into people on here) used to have me in tears of laughter. -
Thoughts from America 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
A few years ago a visit to the 'states prospered very few genuinely interesting cars the average "yank tank" being a wallowing gas guzzler however it is clear now that there are some great cars available in the US that we do not see in Europe, the Acura (Honda's premium brand) TL and RL 4WD are great lookers and with 258 bhp 3.2 and 300 bhp 3.5 V6's they go a bit too. Likewise Infiniti (Nissan's premium brand) produce some great looking cars as do Lexus, particularly the 300 bhp IS350 that we do not, yet, get here. I have picked up a copy of Car and Driver mag where they test eight "sports sedans", OK the 330i wins, just, though notably the 9-3 Aero (new 2.8 V6) and S60R are beaten into 7th and 8th places by the IS350, Acura TL, Cadillac CTS etc. -

Celica GT Import - Emissions Failure 2 May 2007 (Forum)
He suggested it was probably the lambda sensor, especially as he had replaced quite a few toyota ones in recent times. AS he wasn't able to give any time, I then found a local independent Toyota/Lexus specialist, who checked the fault codes, and said there were none at all registered. They suggested that as Jap spec cars are designed for 100RON petrol, and the tank was empty, I try refilling with Shell V - Power, give it a good caning on the dual-carriageway, and take it back to be restested, as the engines don't like our 95RON and they don't run as well. -
BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 25,000km report BMW 530d 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The ride quality on the runflats is not as good as the air suspension equipped Mercedes E320 a colleague has, but better than an Audi A6 or Lexus IS250 for example. At speed though, like the old one, it manages to be very quiet and relaxed and I drove 2,000km in 2 days last week without any adverse affects on my notoriously weak back. The comfort seats are spectacularly comfortable. -
Petrol, diesel, hybrid? (No EVs please) - Advice on car for retirement 2 Aug 2022 (Forum)
In normal circumstance I'd trade it for something in the £10-15k bracket, maybe 5-6 years old, low miles - and in fact I am considering another XF, possibly a Sportbrake, or an XE. Sadly Saab are no more and I find the current Lexus range pretty ugly. But maybe I should cast the net wider. Needless to say I'm not an out and out performance freak (though motorway performance batters) and equally I'm not an SUV fan - big saloons and estates for me, and I love lots of kit (though not fussed about modern nannying driving 'aids' - I had a rental VW 'Up' recently that was a total pain on country roads in France nagging constantly about crossing white lines). -
Talk me out of buying an X-Type... 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Volvo S60: I haven't test driven this one but I am thinking I might, it looks quite nice and they are quite cheap. Anyone tried/got one and do you like it? Worth a look? Lexus: I think this would be too expensive and they don't seem too common either, is this worth examing further? OK, help me out here, is there something I have missed that I should be looking at? Or things I should be aware of before buying?
