Hi I have managed to save £3000 for a car, i cant afford anymore, it needs to be automatic, reliable, cheap to repair, tax, insure Economic Under 1.6 preferably Main use is school run, shopping, afterschool activities I hardly ever drive on motorways I do not drive fast I have one child who is 7, we often have his cousins, so preferably 5 seats- our last car only had 4 seats so was not good for us (Suzuki wagon) I liked the high driving seat of the Suzuki wagon, I also used to have an old scenic, I like a bit of space and good views to drive. -
Ford Fiesta diesel or petrol - Second hand car for daughter learning to drive. 22 Jan 2013 (Forum)
She is mad keen to pass her test. She is happy to meet certain costs to get a slightly better car. Her driving will mainly be in and around town...longest journey 15 miles...and little motorway driving. Looking at running costs it does seem to me that a diesel will be cheaper tjhan a petrol.......lower road tax, lower insurance, better mileage per gallon but obviously more expensive per gallon etc. -

All diesels - Which driving style produces the least diesel soot 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I have heard four theories: 1.Soot is mainly generated when a car is being driven hard which is why drivers accelerating hard from roundabouts get the characteristic black smoke but not at steady speed. 2. A hard driven diesel burns the soot that both hard & soft driving generate but which only hard driving will burn up leaving it to cause damage in a gently driven car. 3. It is about turbo boost. An small engine with lots of boost produces more soot than a bigger less boosted engine producing the same power. -

Points on your license 29 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I'm with the charity man quoted in the article; let's stick to 12 for everybody. If you have to go to court and claim 'hardship' for being unable to drive then you should have thought about it before driving like a knob. I'm thinking about in towns really here; speeding on the motorway doesn't bother me as long as they don't drive up the backs of other cars. -
