  • Focus C-MAX TDCI CVT? 19 May 2004 (Forum)
One of the variants listed is the "1.6 16V Duratorq TDCi, Durashift CVT" -- see http://www.fordconnection.com//FordEuropeMultimedia/GBR_EN/002/cmax_specs.html A diesel with a CVT sounds to me like a very nice idea -- diesel economy, and a smooth automatic, without much of a dent on performance. Comparing the "Fuel performance and emissions" figures of the automatic against data for the the manual, it looks resonably efficient: * Fuel consumption up 16% (5.7 l/100km v 4.9) * Top speed barely changed (112mph v 115) * 0-62mph barely changed (11.6 sec v 11.3) * 31-62 mph much better (7.9sec v 12.1) -- probably because the manual is done in 4th gear, rather than starting in third * Emissions up 17%, from (129gm/km to 151) That all suggests that the CVT should be little more expensive to run than the manual, and offer better real-world performance, while still being much more economical than a petrol automatic However, none of the reviews I have read suggest than any of the journalists had driven one of these.
  • HDi Power Loss - Citroen Xsara 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Kit was fitted about 2 weeks after new meter. 3 days after kit fitment same problem again, trying to push on no-go limp home mode (vvvv scary when trying to pass a lorry in heavy rain) Any ideas?? could air meter be damaged again (if it ever was in the first place) What else could it be Fuel problem??? I changed the filter shortly after the first incident made no difference, one suggestion has been fuel filter housing faulty. (Will create a log of all warranty work done along with servicing balls up later).
  • Fiesta 1.8D H Reg Starting Problems 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The starter motor still sounds strong (although it isn't happy at all this starting lark!) I took it to our local garage and they couldn't find a problem. They changed the fuel filter anyway and checked for air leaks in the fuel pipes by replacing them with clear pipes, but found nothing. They suggested I take it to a diesel specialist (who I rang and they said "it could be a number of things" and "we don't have any bookings available for two weeks") Not exactly helpful.
  • Mondeo Noises 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I am starting to think that perhaps it should make this noise as part of the ECU program, to somehow control economy or emissions. My only other idea is that it could be the fuel injectors or fuel pressure. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Anyone else had this problem?

  • Vectra MIL light (still on) 10 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Result bit like the curate's egg, good in parts. All the bad driveability issues have been resolved, bit early to say fuel cons now OK but I think its back to where it should be. However the light still comes on as before, stays on and goes out as before. Dealer is foxed, any suggestions. Ignore it? Could this now be moisture in the multi plug as it only happens first thing?
  • UFO ( unbelievable flatout object ) 21 Aug 2001 (Forum)
The car had a column change so it was probably an auto, but whatever it was wouldn't the car have stopped rather quickly when the fuel ran out ? They crashed in the end, but lived as they were only doing 60 ! This film was based on a true story so it must have happened right ? Answers on a postcard to..... Regards Ash. p.s would pouring water on the engine have stopped it sooner ?

  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 1990 1.9 GTi starting problems 25 Nov 2010 (Forum)
It would turn over the engine (unlike the normal failure mode listed above) but would just not fire. I then managed to flatten the battery by various attempts to get it going. I checked I had fuel in the tank, checked fuel was getting to the fuel rail, checked the spark from the plugs, seemed a little weak so i installed new leads and dizzy cap, but still she would fire but not start!!! Left her for another week, until I had time to have another fiddle, now when I tried starting her she would still turn over but not fire, but now when I released the ignition switch from the start position the car would continue turning over!!

Soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, no matter what speed i am going the shaking stops. I was thinking maybe its the fuel filter, but I am guessing. Any help would be appreciated.

The car feels fidgetty when at a steady speed, say 30mph in 3rd gear.  No codes showing on VCDS, car starts, idles and accelerates fine.  Changed fuel filter and filled canister with Purge and the EGR was cleaned a few months back.  Any help/advice appreciated and please request any  measurement blocks on VCDS if this will help.  I have VCDS but not the knowledge!

I get the P0532 a/c refrigeration pressure low and P0101 MAF. would the A/C affect the mass air flow and cause the cars behaviour?.    I have checked egr, new fuel and air filter and cleaned the boost pressure sensor but keep getting these two codes. I tried another MAF sensor but same result. can anyone shed light please.   Sam
  • diesels - thoughts on this article 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I'm looking into getting a newer car and had been looking forward to going back to diesels ( having owned older diesels , thought a modern diesel might be nice ) but there seems to be a general theory that modern diesels might not be so reliable as they once where, and that any savings in  tax and fuel economy are outweighed by the costs of repair. looking to find out more info on this matter I came across this article and as the above title suggests " thoughts on this article " https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/jan/27/diesel-cars-cheap-reliable-petrol
