• SAAB 9-5 Gearbox oil change 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
  My 122,000 mile 9-5 is still running as well as ever, and I try to ensure this is so by regular servicing and care. My dealer is very reluctant to change the gearbox oil though. I thought it was a good idea, as the gear changing is a bit stiffer than my Volvo s80, and I imagined it would prolong the life of the box. The dealer first suggested it to be an impossible task without removing the box, but later merely said it was very diffcult, and not recommended unless the clutch was to be changed too.

  My first posting and I am stuck. Would appreciate some help. Did a regular engine oil / filter change after 7 months and c. 6000 miles. Engine is clean, 60k miles and oil and filter usually changed twice a year. No sediment in the old oil. I was day dreaming and mistakingly overfilled slightly.

  would the symptoms and subsequent actions ie oil light and noise it made sound like an oil pump to anyone here that knows? also, i'm having trouble finding a garage to change the timing belt ("pain in the a** job" and " all dayer and we cant justify the labour charges for changing a belt") are the replies ive had so far from local garages.so again any advice on mechanice in the welling/kent area would be appreciated.

  Chaps I have a 54 reg Citroen C3 1.4 petrol with just over 10,000 miles. The oil is now about the minimum mark, so i would like to top it up. The next (first) service is not due until 20,000 miles or two years so November 2006. Two questions: 1 - Seeing as the oil level has dropped so low, am i wise to get an oil and filter change done, regardless of Citroen's guidelines. 2 - If i don't get an oil change, i will need to top up the oil.

  Hello Looking for a bit of advice please. Bought a 2006 Audi A4 Avant about a month ago. Told by the guy he had "done" the oil and water etc so I didnt bother to check it until 3 days ago. Silly me. The oil level was about an inch over the max on the stick so after advice today i changed the oil and filter.  Never done it before but researched ALOT and all went well in the end.

  Hello, This weekend I shall be servicing a Polo 1.4 1996 N-Reg and this involves changing the oil/oil filter. Because of the age of the engine should I be using a thinner/thicker viscosity oil than the one recommended in Haynes or is the same viscosity fine for an engine of this type regardless of its age?

  This is more or less in line with the handbook which, If I read the correctly, specifies oil changes every 30,000 miles and 'inspections' every other 15,000 miles. Does this sound right? My recent experience with 'modern' diesel cars (a company Peugeot 406 etc) was that they needed an oil change about every 12,000 miles.

  My daughter has just had her first service (7k miles) on her Ford Ka, and was somewhat taken back by a charge of £115. For a comparison the first oil and filter change at 6.5k miles on my 320d was £77 which included the cost of 5 litres of Castrol SLX synthetic oil at £11 per litre. For a mere oil and filter change, are Ford not being a trifle greedy ????
