  • Pay-as-you-drive insurance scrapped 15 Jun 2008 (Forum)
For myself and other friends who tried to get a quote, it wasn't any cheaper. 2. An effective ban on driving after 11pm is not going to win subscribers. What if you need to drive a long way late at night or in an emergency? That'll be £600 please. Even 20 miles picking someone up past 11pm would net you a bill of £20, more expensive than a taxi!
  • SUV handling on tarmac, question please 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone take the trouble to explain to me how the Front wheel drive breed of SUV's with four wheel drive coming in when wheel slippage is detected handle on tarmac. I understand the theory off road whereby wheel spin is spotted and drive is sent to all 4 wheels, hopely maintaining progress.
  • Driving Economically. 12 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Have so far tried (with the aid of cruise control) 55, 60, 65, 70, 75. and the fule consumption seems to peak just below 60 (1700 rpm) then drops off quickly but rises again after 75? Does anyone know (theory or experience) what is the most fuel effiencent way to drive my car on the motorway. oops forgot to say 80% of my driving is up and down the motorways.
  • driving a tacho 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
OK, bit of a general question so havent put any make/model. I need to find a suitable signal to drive a rev counter (aftermarket). I know on a petrol this would drive off the coil or ignition module / ecu. The car its going in has neither. I have been told before it will drive off the 'w' terminal on the alternator.

  • CORRECT usage of Auto boxes - help 12 Jun 2003 (Forum)
When I say CORRECT, I mean as recommended by BSM or the Government/Highway Code etc. As in, what procedure is expected for a pupil to pass the UK Autobox driving test. I think most people (NOT those on driving tests!) just leave the box in Drive. I do.
  • Driving Licence Renewal 25 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Hi all, hope this is in the right place..  Does anyone know if there is anyway you can delay the renewal of your driving licence. ?  Mine expires soon, but i am not actually driving at the moment and probably will not be for at least another year or so. Obviously i do not want to lose any entitlement, nor incur more costs, but it seems a little one sided that you either renew now with a fee or incur a fine.
  • Driving and drinking 23 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Because of my work, I need to taste and drink some alcohol and always after work I’m not sure if I can drive. When you are tired after hours of hard work it’s really hard to ascertain. I live 35 km from my work so bus or train is not an option. So I wonder what is ur the best way to be sure that you can drive?
  • ford focus 2005 2.0 tdci - driving from cold start? 1 Jun 2015 (Forum)

When I start to drive away from a cold start changing for 1st to 2nd and applying the accelerater the car gudders for a few seconds like it is being starved of diesel then its fine after about 2 mins of driving. It doesnt happen in any other gears only in 2nd once you press the accelrater
  • Ford Fiesta - ex-Driving School Cars 14 Apr 2014 (Forum)
What experiences has anyone had of buying and running an ex-driving school or ex-driving instructor car? Received wisdon is that the clutch will be shot and the gearbox on its last legs, but is this what people have experienced? The trade avoids them or marks them well down in price, so is a 12 plate Fiesta 1.25 Edge with 45-50k on the clock a reasonable buy at less than £6500?
  • Where can under 17 drive legally? 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Ideally an unused airfield would be the place. Don't want one of those 'driving experiences' - £100 for 30mins behind the wheel!
  • any - Driving Snow Covered Cars 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Not only that, but the snow blowing off the roof effectively means the car behind is driving through a blizzard! Don't become a statistic. It only takes a minute with a soft brush to clear it all off.
  • Reporting bad driving - possible? 8 Aug 2012 (Forum)
One for our resident BiB probably. Is there a system for reporting a case of really bad driving through the local police force? We all see bad driving on a daily basis. Normally I just get on with it, but when a car mounts the pavement to undertake vehicles and thus avoid waiting in a queue (this was the last of three dangerous events over half a mile) even this riles me.

  • Do I need a tacho record to drive a 7.5gvw 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've been asked to drive a 7.5GVW truck as part of my job. The trip would be approx. 200 miles round trip, the vehicle would be a hire truck and my License covers me to drive the truck. My employer says I don't need a disc.
  • Driving to Holland 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone have any tips? I will be driving down next Thursday to Folkestone and getting the 7:45pm Eurotunnel, making a stop at some point along the road, possibly in Ghent, and then driving through the next morning to Efteling, a theme park somewhere near Eindhoven.
  • Dyspraxia and driving 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The grandson of a friend has dyspraxia (poor co-ordination) and this seems likely to prevent him from driving a motor vehicle. Given that in the 21st century a very large number of people in Britain rely on driving skills for work purposes, this is a serious handicap. There is a Dyspraxia website and support group which offers advice and help to those with the condition.
