Classic categories 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
In another thread, it has emerged that the word 'classic' is used generally and vaguely, most often to mean 'lovingly preserved or restored old car'. Excellent though such personal statements are, they blur the meaning of the word until it is lost. A sort of consensus seems to have emerged. I would suggest eliminating all exotica and luxury cars, there being a good case for saying anything really expensive is a classic. -
My next car ... 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I need an estate so I can put tools and assorted junk in the back as I pursue of my new career (!) of handyman/gardener. The car needs to have 100 - 110 bhp diesel engine and to be able to tow 1300Kg of caravan. I believe that the local Citroen dealer will give me the best price on the Synergie, say £3.5K leaving me to put in £7K to get a year old C5 estate. -

Along with the application to register a car (the V55/4 or V55/5) you will need to supply your DVLA photocard licence or one document from each of the following lists: Name confirmation: DVLA paper licence, passport, marriage certificate, decree nisi/absolute or birth certificate. -
Car door 'break-off' hinges 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My 13 years old grandson informed me that he was on the way to school, riding his mountain bike fast in a clearly marked cycleway on the side of the main road in front of the school. There were roadworks at the time, and a very long queue of stopped traffic. -
HJ - How much for Merc E240? 8 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I posted this question some days back but no one came back with actual official book valuations. I have now decided to go for car 2, which is a 2.4litre V6. So once again, can someone give me a book or trade value for the following, (in the knowledge that if I do not buy it, the lease company will offer it an auction in the Midlands): car 2 - 2 yr old E240 Avantgarde, 4 door, 5speed-auto-tiptronic. -
Community cars 20 Dec 2001 (Forum)
A neighbour of mine was burgled, recently, and another was a "near miss" - a suspicious person was seen sitting in and old Ford Sierra, using a mobile phone. She blew the horn and drove off when someone showed an interest in her. The police arrived to investigate, and now it's all gone quiet. The police Soco who arrived to investigate the successful burglary told my neighbour that the suspect Sierra could have been a "community car". -
Reflexes are not enough! 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
He told German tabloid Bild: "Yes, I decided to test some glasses in the car. I am slightly short-sighted, one and 1.75 dioptres. That's not much but the glasses could help in a race." A week ago the race ace smashed his and three other cars when he caused a pile up on a motorway, ploughing into the back of a queue of cars after failing to stop in time. -
Ex-Rental Car a bad thing? 25 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My suspision was raised, which lead to cheaking the identity of the one previous owner - true enough it was an Avis outlet in South-West London, unknown to myself. The car has done 18,000 and is two years old. I very recently purchased it from my local Toyota Dealership and they are attending to a number of minor faults, including a missing spare wheel! I have noticed that the lean-burn engine is frugal but it does affect dramatically the performance, the car appears to misfire on accelerating from around 3000 rpm. -
Any - Haynes manuals - as good as they used to be? 23 Sep 2021 (Forum)
This was prompted by a post in Technical regarding a 406 steering rack, which reminded me of a time my brother in law and I used a Haynes manual to change a steering rack on a 306 D Turbo. All was going well until we came to physcially extract the old rack from the car. We spent a good hour trying to extract it from the side of the car instructed in the book, and failed. In a moment of inspiration, we manouevred it the other way, and it slid straight out. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 2.0 Doubts about the service 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The old pads were about 4mm thick. Whats the new thickness 12.5/13 /14mm? The latest service report says my rear pads are 75% worn. The latest poster on the wall of the dealership shows 25% 50% and 75%. Change of emphasis? -
Registration dates and values 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Dealer does not seem willing to let me walk off with the tax disc which although I'd only drive the old car a dozen miles on the 1st, the act of signing the V5c, the no tax and or SORN would probably make me an easy nick for Swansea. So all in all it is cheaper. Con's, well I'd never played the 'new' new registration game, and truthfully, not really my style. -
Renault grand scenic - car supermarkets 31 Aug 2015 (Forum)
After buying cars and selling for over 15 years the bottom line is always you get what you pay for and main dealer 1-3 yr old cars are the best to get on finance. -
Advice on replacing car in Dec. 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
As many would know I am still using my Nissan QX. However, due to 1) constant nagging by my mum that my car does not look presentable at work 2) car being over 10 year old now (1995 N-reg) and 3) hopefully passing my final charter accountant exam and therefore a promotion, I would hopefully be getting a newer car and pass my QX to my girlfriend :-) I have limited my choice as follows (I have driven both and I liked the drive of both); a) 2002 Ford Mondeo TDCI GHIA X manual b) 2002 BMW 525d SE auto with leather Both would be 100k miles, ex-company car at auction, probably bought through Joe Dowd. -
wrong car, right car 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
did anyone see wrong car, right car last night? i particularly enjoy episodes when then test the more sportier cars. the guy had a bright purple tvr camera and was looking for a 35k car of a prestigiuos quality, he tried the new BMW, porsche 911, a ferrari, a jag xk8 and a number of others and in the end, still wasnt satisfied till he got another tvr. -
Smart Roadster (2002 - 2006) - The wife's gone mad and bought one 12 May 2009 (Forum)
Perhaps I'll make a car addict out of him after all. I took the car straight down to our local main dealer after buying it for a thorough service and check over, nothing major to worry about so the signs are good that we haven't bought a lemon. -
Thoughts on replacing Polo 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I think I'm probably just on the border of a diesel making economic sense, as I do a lot of miles visiting friends and family around the country as well as work. I don't want a big car, so small hatchback sized is ideal. I'm shallow when it comes to cars - it needs to look good! Oh, and ideally only 3 doors. I'm really tempted by the Skoda Fabia vRS - the head says it's the perfect car for me, but the heart (and my Golf driving best friend) might not be ready to laugh in the face of badge snobbery just yet. -
Lexus NX - Dilemma 2 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Hi, I own a 2016 Lexus NX full service history so has another couple of years warranty cover. I’m now in my 70’s and thinking whether to keep the car beyond warranty or sell it and buy a 2 year old Toyota Yaris Cross that will have another 8 years warranty's. With the cheaper service plan, insurance and more miles per gallon it would save me £118 a month that would allow me to borrow the difference (with a little extra per month). -
na - on road / off road? 15 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I now live in a block of flats and there was a line similar to the one at the old property in front of nine parking bays until they resurfaced the road and covered this line over. Was my father correct in saying that this line depicts off road? -
Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 Diesel - Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 Not always starting 25 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I took a video to see if anyone could understand the sound. The chuckle a few seconds in is my two-year old kid, not the car lol. It's not the loudest vid, apologies. https://youtube.com/shorts/0UpaaP-O-SE?feature=share -
Vauxhall Astra GTC 2013 - 2013 Astra 2.0 cdti low oil pressure 4 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Before I contact the dealer, as it way under 6 months old, I'm fearing this will be just classed as fair wear and tear, which won't be covered. What are the thoughts of the forum experts please? Thanks in advance.
