Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Fumbling 1.25 Zetec 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Ford dealer says it is either ecu failure or complete exhaust and catylist replacement but will not commit to either. Basically they have given up. All the usuals have been checked: HT electrics, fuel, etc. and seem OK. Anybody able to throw some light onto what it could be? Thanks -

Hesitant VW PD130 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My Passat has started to "hesitate" at low revs - 1500 to 2000 ish. It feels like maybe it's not firing on all cylinders briefly. The exhaust seems dirtier, I think fuel consumption has got slightly worse and wife reckons there's a whistle from the engine on the driver's side that wasn't there before (my ears aren't up to it). Any ideas? It goes in on Thursday for a "diagnostic". -
Toyota estima import 5 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Sometime on first starting up there is a grumbling noise which sounds like the starter motor but is not ,when it finally starts I end up with a trail of whitish smoke which finally burns off (Fuel??) The car runs great ,does not use oil and once started no problems. When putting the foot down or the need for more power is required then the "engine"warning light comes on but goes off after a while.Any help would be appreciated. -
Most economical way to drive a diesel? 2 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Having recently read in the paper and Auto Express about some chap who devised a way to drive petrol cars more economically, by accelerating flat out upto 2000 rpm in each gear then changing up, I was wondering what the most economical way to drive my diesel car (1.5dci Megane)? The article in Auto Express stated that because of the differences in the fuel injection systems between petrol and diesel, his method didn't work with diesel engines. -
TDI Turbo use when cruising 4 May 2007 (Forum)
I have it at the back of my mind that maintaining a 70mph cruise would need no more than about 40bhp. Would 'reverting' back to N/A save any fuel? Just out of interest really! Only person I know of with a similar setup is Mad Max! -
pug 405 diesel 17 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a 180,000mile non turbo 1.9 diesel 405 and I ve noticed a lot of free play on the throttle spindle (Lucas pump) It moves about an inch before the engine speed increases and welly appears to be even less than usual. fuel consumption has also dropped into the 30s, is it time for a new pump? Thanks for any advice you can offer. -
Warm Astra turbo diesel won't start 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It will start from cold and then runs fine but if I stop the engine, I have to let it go completely cold before it will start again. At first I thought it could be fuel starvation due to a clogged filter, so I fitted a new filter but this just seemed to make it run a little better, it hasn't solved the starting problem. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it? -
Fiesta 1.1 burning oil when hot 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
When my Fiesta 1.1 is cold there is little smoke, after about 6-7 miles the smoke gets quite bad, its not burning fuel and there is not a single bit of miss fire, but the smoke gets quite bad almost emberassingly so. As with my previews threads my mechanic reckons its the camshaft which is damaged but is there any short term solution to reduce the smoke a bit? -
Which Verso Tyres? 12 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The Dunlop Sport 3000s fitted now have only done 20k, so I'm looking for reasonable price, longer lasting and low road noise / max fuel consumption. Oh, and a decent amount of grip as this pleasant beasty doesn't seem to mind being hustled (for an MPV!) Not much to ask from a modern tyre, eh? The hoops are 205 / 55 / R16V. Thanks, Madun. -

Vectra 2004 - "pinking"? 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have had my 2004 Vectra 2.2 Sri Direct for around 2 years now.Recently it has developed a noise that I can only describe as "pinking".I have had it looked at by the Dealer and changed my fuel from Supermarket stuff now and again to BP Unleaded, but after several tankfuls of B.P. it is still the same. It seems to be noticeable in 3rd and 4th at lower revs when there is a bit of strain on the engine. It concerns me as it never used to do it. -
Vectra C - Noise 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My 2004 Sri has developed a strange noise after its 2nd service at 32K miles. When driving at lower speeds in higher gears (35mph in 4th) so the revs are low, there is noise that sounds like a "budgie".It sounds "sort of" like a chirping noise.Possibly an air leak but where should I look (or do I put it back to the Dealer) Air Filter Pollen filter Oil and filter Fuel Filter were among the items changed, but this could be a "herring rouge" Any ideas welcome -
Drag 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
(Subject of thread changed from "The Unbelievable HJ Column" to "Drag") Some of you will have read the HJ column in the Telegraph http://tinyurl.com/hjyzx in which a reader tells of the improvement in fuel consumption achieved by putting mountain bikes inside the car rather than on a bike rack. A physics teacher at the local school read this to a class, as a practical example of the importance of reducing the coefficient of drag. -

Hi, I need to find out if I have the modified fuel injectors fiited to my car. I have contacted Lexus and their records show that they have not fitted any. However, they may have been fitted by an Independant. Can anybody advise how can I identify original and modified injectors. i.e Part Numbers or colour etc? -
BMW petrol guage 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have a 5 series BMW, bought recently, and two days ago the petrol guage was showing half way between empty and a quarter full. The low fuel warning light wasn't glowing, which comes on normally when you have around a gallon and a half left in. The car stuttered to a halt, and as luck would have it I was able to coast to a petrol station 400 yards away to fill up. -
turbo diesel air filter 19 May 2006 (Forum)
This resulted in a big drop in economy (45 down to 30 mpg) i just wondered if a filter like K&N would give a better air to fuel mix and better economy? just interested. -
Car Driver to Mopeds 6 May 2006 (Forum)
Dear Backroomers, I wonder someone can help me (DVLA guide has confused me) I am considering getting a moped for the 17mile trips to work and back to cut down on costs etc for fuel and insurance (yay) As I understand, as I've passed my test back in Dec2000, I am not required to do a CBT, right? What I am lost at, is what limits can I use? - or is it just the basic 50cc bike?
