Subaru Impreza - clutch pedal vibration 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Just had the clutch replaced on my 1998 Subaru Impreza turbo, a skimmed flywheel was fitted also. The work was done by a reputable Subaru specialist using a Subaru clutch kit and it drives well except.... When stationary in neutral if I depress the clutch pedal about 1 or 2 cm then I can feel a vibration through the clutch pedal, if at the same time I increase the engine revs the frequency of vibration increases. -
VW Passat 97' sport saloon 23 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It's me again with another conundrum. Just bought one of the above and when I was driving it home in heavy traffic I noticed the accelerater peddle jolts slightly (more like a slow vibration) when I'm using the clutch. Fine when normal driving but when it's stop/start it happens. Doesn't appear to move when u look at it but I can feel it with my foot. -
Clio - auto - strange behaviour 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Immediately after this it is hesitant to start, however it will start after a few seconds and/or a bit of a gas. After this point the car is fine, and drives superbly. I have been using 97 RON fuel in the last few fill ups instead of the standard 95 found at most petrol stations. Do you think this may be a problem? It idles at about 930rpm in neutral, slightly more when stationary with Drive selected. -
Cheap car: Cavalier or Vectra? 27 Aug 2004 (Forum)
How much do you think I should pay? I was thinking 500-700 and 700-1000 resp. Also, I get 38mpg from the Renault (I drive carefully), so I'd consider a petrol Cav/Vec if you think I could match or beat this. (My dad had a 94 Cav 2.0 GLSi and it drank like a fish.) Cheers, Richard. -
Red Barchetta 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Having read many arguments on behalf of the pro and ant motoring lobby on the subjects of cameras, speed limits, GPS monitoring, road tolls etc etc I was reminded of a Rush track called Red Barchetta, set in a future where actually driving a car yourself is rather frowned upon. While searching for the lyrics to the song I found the article from Track and Road in 1973 by Richard S Foster (A nice morning drive) that was the inspiration for the song. -

Well, it's a Tourer to be more precise, but I ran out of letters! Car is a 1.6 litre K-series. Had the clutch replaced at the last service to see if this... -
306 front suspension noise 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
306, 1995 DT, 150K I have recently replaced the front struts, springs, wishbones on the front of my dear old 306. Since the work the car drives perfect, holds the coners, no bouncing, I could not be happier, however, every so oftern there is a funny vibration type noise. It sound like a window chattering (but it is not) It definately comes froms the suspension area, on a certain road @ 55mph it sings away, It happens more oftern when the driving with passengers. -
Tax disc worries 26 Apr 2004 (Forum)
OK, I have a little problem...I will try to keep it brief and to-the-point... I need to tax a vehicle I do not drive and am trying to sell. Since we have no driveway, I have to keep it on a public road. I am not insured to drive the vehicle since my policy only covers me for my main vehicle(the one I use at the moment). -
Cash v Co.Car Calcs 25 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My nightmare with the Audi is driving me back towards the comfort of the co car scheme. The calculators I have seen assume you either have a co.car and you're about to switch to cash or you don't have a car at all. Can anyone add to this list of costs attached to running my current vehicle? -
California car rental 5 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Hi All Wonder if anyone can give me some advice about this problem... I'm planning a honeymoon fly-drive trip in California in April and have found out that to drive in that state it's mandatory that you have indemnity insurance. Now, I've found rental firms with decent prices for the two weeks, but they want more than £100 for two weeks insurance, and it's only the equivalent of third party! -
How did they pass? 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I suspect we\'ve all seen people driving around who we have thought this about. Got a classic yesterday. Black A-class Merc with green \'P\' plates on it. Moving away from lights on a two-lane stretch of road I was slightly alongside him and gaining slightly when he decided he wanted to be in my lane. -
Breaking traffic regulations 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Any others? FWIW I cycle and drive, and am given odd looks when as a cyclist I always stop at red lights, follow one way roads the correct way, never ride on the pavement, etc etc. -
Advice wanted on selling 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I hope someone here can help me - I got lots of advice when I posted a question about buying my first car. My Dad died recently, and since my mum doesn't drive, we need to sell his car. Mum doesn't want to advesrtise it, and have people phoning up, and wanting test drives etc. It's a 9 year old Carina, so we know it won't be worth very much, but we don't want to be completely ripped off either. -
Polo Oil Pressure Warning . 11 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My daughter has a 97 (98my) 1.4 Polo. Yesterday while driving to work the oil pressure warning light & buzzer came on. Stopped car, no oil leaks, oil level ok. Called out the RAC.The patrolman rechecked the oil level, confirmed ok and checked all obvious things.Asked my daughter to restart the engine which she did--problem gone! -
Rear Badge or no Badge 27 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My point is that I know what I am driving - why is it necessary to tell others? -
A peculiar overtaking phenomenon 6 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So why, then, do the cars that have been following for the last mile or more now decide they want to go past?? Is it just an "I'm not driving in the 'slow lane'" mentality? Just curious. -
White Van Drivers 5 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I have a whole new understanding and if I had to be treated like that for any longer than two weeks, I reckon my own driving would become pretty anti-social as well. -
Car advice needed please 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I need a new car! Car is needed for short journeys to the station , town, and as I have to drive to work 5 days a month 5 x 150 mile round trips to London (clear run on the way in, traffic on the way out) And the occasional trips away whan I have time off. I'm currently driving an old Volvo 360- which on the London run costs £17 for the round trip.
