Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - 02 2.7 Tiptronic Main Oil Seal 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Had this car since new (March 2002) and at 4 years old ( March 2006) dealer advised that main oil seal was leaking which meant gearbox out to change seal. The car was out of warranty but had been dealer serviced since new. -
Best value used small car? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Perhaps I should extend my look to traditionally less reliable makes such as the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa, since at least there should be some private sales. Originally I was looking for a 1 year old vehicle so it was still in warranty and quite a bit of devaluation had come off, however perhaps warranty isn't important nowadays since cars are far more reliable than they used to be so a 4 to 5 year old might be best value? -
The end of rust? 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I hardly see any rusty cars today, the most is a bit of rot around the rear arches on old Mondeos or Vectras but that can be prevented by careful removal of crud when washing the car. Makes you think that if you look after the bodywork and service them regularly you can easily see 20+ years in a modern car. -

Hi Have just sold a fairly pricey car (relatively speaking....) and am now on a budget as i'm moving into my own place, gotta meet mortgage payments on my own etc So, previous car was a 2000 S3, prior to that another S3, before that a 1993 Golf Gti, before that LHD TT Not sure what to get now for my 6 grand cash Ideas so far are Ford Focus, should find an old one for around 6 grand, nice looking, seem nice to drive, quite reliable? -
Oil change tools, New Mercedes C Type 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I always keep my cars a long time, and I change my 11 year old 180K Cavalier's oil every 5 -6000 miles. My 11 month old C type 200 K's on board generated service intervals however, are apparently happy to take the car to 10K miles or more between the service intervals that I am obliged to follow to maintain the cars 3 year warranty. -

Where should I sell my Porsche 911 and what could I replace it with? 28 May 2011 (Ask HJ)

Car insurance renewal 3 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Been a few threads on car insurance recently. The insurance on the old Focus is up for renewal - last year £114 fully comp with legal cover, 2007 Focus petrol. This year the cheapest I can find on all the usual comparison sites is £158 or 38% increase. -
Help choose a car 4 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Any recommendations greatly appreciated. 28yr old male, 40 mile commute each way daily, mostly motorway. Budget approx 12-14k, would consider finance/lease although presume not very cost effective given mileage? Ideally after a smaller sized car (hatchback/coupe/saloon) with good mpg, reliability and comfort. -

Austin Seven 1936 - MOT testing 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
All cars over three years old need an MOT certificate when they are sold. All cars made before 1960 dont need an MOT certificate to be road legal. However do all cars made before 1960 need an MOT certificate when they are sold? -
Not - Changing the car! 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Havng taken the advice of The forum, (thanks to all) and really looked at Volvos, and tried a few, with a very good dealer without obligation, ( I said I wanted up to 1 year old petrol), was allowed a drive in a diesel s40, and an s60. Gave details for the future should they have a rare petrol version available will get in contact. Till then , as car tax due, have paid and will use, as nothing else really ticks the boxes. -
What will your next car be? 18 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We've done a thread like this before and out of it came my purchase of a Jaguar to satisfy that 7 year old boy inside of me who looked at pictures of the XJ and said 'one day i'll have a big Jag' its not an XJ but it'll do! So does anybody have any plans to change car soon? Is Bobbin still looking to frighten Preston with a fast Nissan? -
Insurance speak??? 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Sorry folks, more questions than answers at the moment. I've done it before but can't remember the terminology. Last time I changed cars Direct Line insured the new car AND the old car for a limited period while it was sold for no additional cost. The operator mentioned what it was called and implied that not all the operators knew the facility existed. -
Webasto Sunroof 7 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Greetings all - first post and would like some advice please! Looking at buying a 2 year old car that comes with a full length (almost) electric folding Webasto sunroof. Apparently it cost nearly £1k when fitted when the car was new! Anyone had any recent experience of having one - are they noisy, likely to leak, devalue the car at all? -
