I wish to surprise a friend by buying him a newish car, perhaps 12-18 months old. It must be a modern TDI, 4/5dr, offer very good relaibility and fuel economy and if serviced regularly capable of 300k miles.
Do you guys have any suggestions. My own suggestion would be Skoda Octavia TDI or a Toyota Avensis TDCI but VW relibaility is suspect whereas Toyota is very good.

Don't overlook the Skoda Superb, they are a used bargin with lots of toys and the PD diesels average 50mpg.
