  • Electric Cars 8 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I miss the lovely sound of a powerful engine though, but the near-silence of each journey (apart from a bit of tyre rumble), and the ease of driving, means that you don't feel at all tired, even after a long drive. This is definitely the future, but we need hundreds of thousands of public chargers to make electric cars an easy option for everyone.
  • Stick with Mazda or go BMW 6 Mar 2020 (Forum)
It drives very well (still does!). The main use is as a family car, no commuting. I do very low milage (often well under 5,000 miles per year). I want to stick with petrol for many reasons, even if it is more thirsty.
  • Mazda 5 - Mazda 5 - 2008 - D I E S E L ! losing power 23 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I am not a mechanic by trade but am very hands on and not afraid to get stuck in. I had planned on timing belt/drive belts etc this weekend for said vehicle but something happened yesterday. My wife called my as she was driving on the motorway and told me the car had lost power....was juddering too...she was struggling to get above 30mph and ended up driving home on the hard shoulder to stay safe.
  • Diesel estates for motorway driving- 33k miles p/a 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Good morning all, I'm after a little advice. I do around 33k miles per year and drive a 61 plate VW Jetta (Bluemotion), which is giving me around 59mpg. Most of the mileage I do is motorway driving. While the car itself has been fine for the last two years (It was bought at a time when I needed something more efficient than a petrol Ford Focus - I changed jobs which quintupled my commute) I'm looking for something a little more comfortable/luxurious.
  • Nissan Leaf - My Leaf experience 30 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Heated windscreen and rear window, electric heating to cabin so within 2 minutes the windows were defrosted and the interior was warming through. Foot operated, yet normal cable and ratchet parking brake, released, move small 'i drive' style controller to D and away you go. Range was stated at 82 miles from a full charge.  Pressing eco button increased this to 88 due to reduced power to the motor. Acceleration is "throw you back in the seat" rapid - true 'point and squirt' driving.
  • Any - Malware on PC 20 Oct 2015 (Forum)
What happened to me and I think everyone that gets it, a warning comes up replacing your wallpaper on screen, telling you your Docs and photos are locked in an encryption that needs a key to open Now the key is obtained by using a browser named TOR and your instructed to go to a website that only Tor can access(according to message) You are told to once on site to input a series of 25x 5 numbers, I actually forget the correct amount but its long,  after this a timer starts up on screen counting down, apparently if you have not done it in a certain time it destroys your info....So make sure you have all your info backed up,I cant stress this enough as many people dont anyway once on site and you`ve entered the numbers they tell you what the ransom amount is, it varies from £200 to £5000 and they tried to charge me £3000 but no way, anyway I decided as its impossible to get rid of this once its gotten hold, to wipe the drive and reload, I used proper wiping software as a format is no good. I am now in the process of going through all my drives to make sure the Ransomware did not get past my main drive, 10 I have, i`m afraid it has destroyed a lot of photos I had, but they were backed up so I still have them It must have been there a while as it left notices in all my drive folders containing photos or documents, and it encrypts all the photos so you cant see them, so far no one has a way to clear this ransomeware so be carefull what E`mails you open   If you already know about this as I did then take no notice of my post but you will at least know this is destructive if you do get it, I hope no one does as its a pain
  • big van! - reckless driving 25 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Can I be done for failing to stop, or failing to report if I was genuingly unaware of the incident? I accept that I can probably be done for reckless driving as I am aware I did change lanes a bit swiftly, I was driving behind this car that seemed to be braking for no reason ( you know the ones), police said she reported that I was tailgaiting her, but to be honest she was kind of racing me futher back up the road ( I say sort of - we weren;t speeding, just playing silly b*****s trying to get in front, stupid now looking back, its strange but somedays I don't give a damn, and others I'm zipping in and out of traffic, which is pointless really.
  • Looking for a "hot-hatch" type car (second ever) 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My plan is to single out the ideal make and model on paper, then fly to the UK for a few days to test-drive some used examples, then buy the best one and have it shipped here. This has two consequences: 1. Automatics are rare in Malta - so before I get to the UK I will most likely not have any of the cars you recommend available on the island for test driving.
  • Mazda 6 Diesel 2008 - Mazda 6 Diesel computer glitch or serious problem? 25 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I relay this info to the garage i got it from and they want me to take it back there. Question is... do i attempt to drive it the 320miles and hope no lights come on or is this bleeding computer just a temperamental b*tch.  The car appears to be driving fine and i'm certain if the turbo had gone i would know about it!
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Fuel Economy 12 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I really couldn't drive more economically, and I'm gobsmacked that it's so bad. The car itself I love. Bar having to remember to jump back when I put the boot up in the rain, it's perfect. Masses of room for the family, enough boot space to host a party in, comfy but solid drive - it's ticking all the boxes I hoped it would.
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 96 1.8 (petrol/carb) erratic idle & cutting out 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
?. Tonight, driving home it cut out on me about 12 times in a 8km drive ? When it cuts out , the revs just drop to zero? no stutter ?. no shaking like is running out of petrol ? the rev and petrol needles ?jump? once and the car just dies ?
  • Audi A5 Cabrio (2009 - ) - Test drive 29 May 2009 (Forum)
Which rules out a BMW 3-series, and leaves just another CLK or an Audi A5 as the only choices(?). We obviously know the CLK and so we booked a test drive in an A5 (2.0 TFSI) manual. Now I haven't driven an Audi for years, so it was all-new to me. Good bits: Very smooth 4-cylinder engine, good build and materials, roomy, good boot, reasonable performance, stiff body, good price.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 kangarooing and engine dying 2 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I decided to carry on with my journey and again after about 40 minutes my car had a personality change and was again a kangaroo. I eventually limped the car home stopping every 30 minutes for a break. My wife drives the car daily and never had this problem I think mainly because she only ever goes on short trips of about 10 mins. I have read the thread on 28 march by torribaz and although my case is similar my car does the kangaroo hop after about 45 minutes whether its around town driving or motorway - its not fussy.

  • AutoExpress rates the MG ZT 260 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Auto Express citing it as a man's car with very little getting in the way between the driver and the engine, a meaty clutch and gearchange, oodles of torque and power, bringing 0-60 faster than any saloon at the price. Just like the 3500S and the ZT260 is unlike so many similar cars with electonic driving aids and traction control that flatter the driver. If you can't handle a heavier clutch and gearchange stick to driving a Supermini. It's not perfect, the mpg and emissions would seriously clobber any BIK benefits but then this isn't a car to buy on a company car allowance.
  • Small car, really sensible advice needed 10 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Help desperately needed! My husband and I are at odds over how to progress with our daughter who is learning to drive. I'll try and be as brief as I can, but give you the facts of the problem. She needs to drive a car which has this list of priorities 1. Size and suitability for a 5'2" petite young lady 2. Reliability and safety 3.

Mini-mum damage: so the engine oil warning light came on and his partner continued to drive on the motorway for 5 minutes. After the engine 'cut out,' he expects the dealer to rectify as a goodwill gesture!? Sheeesh!
