  HJ I read the recent thread on diesel automatics as I too fancy acquiring one. So what does the team think of the Grand Cherokee. There doesn't seem to be a review in the car by car breakdown. They look reasonable to me, they are well equipped and most of the 2nd hand ones seem to be automatic.

  Hi all,  Sorry if I have gotten anything wrong, this is my first post to the forum, I was wanting to ask a few questions as I hadn't really found any answers to them anywhere else. I was looking to buy an automatic as my first car, although I'm passing on manual (hopefully) I really don't enjoy driving it and was looking to buy a reliable automatic. I figured Toyota Yaris mark 1 with the torque converter fully automatic gearbox is usually a byword for reliability when compared to the semi autos in more recent yaris's and other cars.

My requirements are: - Automatic only - £7k budget - Would eventually want to use the car for commuting to work 2-3 times a week (this is a 120-mile round trip) If helpful, I’m based in Leeds so have been looking on autotrader for cars that are available within a 50mile radius.

  Hello everyone, first post here, I'm looking for some advice, due to health problems I'm struggling to use the clutch as I have left leg problems so am looking to get an automatic, the problem is I'm struggling to find much information apart from horror stories, basically I'm on a limited budget of around £2000 and needing a mid sized family car, I do around 10k a year but need something I can depend on, I know nothing is 100% reliable but also don't want something that's giving me problems every few months does anyone have any suggestions on what sort of car I should be looking at thank you in advance

  My Volkswagen Golf, 2003 automatic model has problems changing from 3rd to 4th gear. For the first 5 minutes of the journey gear changing is fine,changing into 4th with no problems. But after around 5 minutes of driving the car will go from 3rd to 4th and straight back down to 3rd.

  I have an older car which i would like to keep the miles down on, so it seems like a good idea. However the car has done 128,000 miles and has an automatic gear box. The gearbox fluid is still a nice red colour and changes gear well. Do these gearboxes last well or is it just asking for trouble?    Any help or experience with these boxes would be most appreciated,    many thanks

  Then using slipping clutch, bit of accelerator, maybe touch of foot brake I creep foward into the narrow garage opening up to and close to the wall ahead, brake to a stop, switch off , leave in gear ,release brake. Contemplating as to how I could control an inch forward with an automatic cvt can someone advise me in detail how I could this and how to inch the vehicle forward undercontrol and without colliding with garage door frame/wall?.   It has however been excellent so far. Anyway, I would like to get another premium hatchback next time that must be automatic, preferably torque converter box but also something that I can believe to be reliable for a decent length of time. Am I right in saying i should rule out 4 cylinder bmws, 1.8 mercs and anything with a dsg!??

  I'm looking to buy a Mazda 3 TS 1.6 petrol but I'm not sure whether to go for automatic or manual.  It's gonna be an 06 or 07 plate,  I'm worried that the automatic gearboxes are much more expensive to fix should anything go wrong.  Is there any Mazda 3 owners that can advise whether the automatic is a good car to buy.

  The only issue i have just come up against, is recently when i start the car the blowers come on automatically event though the switch is set to 0 on the panel, the heating side is fine i.e. it warms up and cools down with the thermostat on the panel. It sometimes goes off. ive noticed it seems to stay on longer the colder it is outside, not sure whether that is just conincidence though.

  bear in mind that am under 25 and over 21, so insurance has a factor too place too. They are both in the automatic model as this is my prefered transmision. Any input will be greately appricated.    Thanks.

  Whilst driving at 25mph suddenly lost all automatic gears and car coasted to the side of the road - moving gear lever made no difference in any position - engine was still running. Turner off and tried a restart and engine would not turn over (turning key has no effect) - power ok as lights etc come on.

  This is most disconcerting and dangeroius as traffic behind me is not expecting me to stop. As the gearbox is automatic, it takes a while to engage neutral/park in order to restart the engine. The engine fires straight away and gives no problem until the next occurrence. The car has been main dealer serviced on time and a full diagnostic check carried out - with no problems showing up.

  Can someone please confirm that the Suzuki Swift's automatic gearbox is unaltered in it's latest reincarnation ? I have owned an 09 reg model from new and am considering replacing it with a 1.2 sz4 model - and read of gearbox issues - I have had none such with my older model....Also, will I miss the extra 300cc ?
