  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI starting issues 12 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Took it into a local garage, they said the fuel injector seals were burst which was the source of the burning smell also. Replaced these, done a service, replaced the battery and it seemed fine for a while.  Every now and then the car now takes 5 or 6 seconds to fire up. Same as before, turning over but like a lack of fuel getting to the engine. After persistance it does start and goes fine.
  • 2007 Chrysler Voyager 2.8 crd Automatic. - Automatic gearbox appears stuck in a low gear. 4 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Have any other Voyager owners had similar problems that could give any help in where to start and the route to follow to identify the issue and resolve it. Any constructive information welcomed. PS. Battery voltage and ignition run voltage have also been suggested should be checked out.            Thanks.
  • Peugeot 206 2.0 HDI 90 - Can a replacement starter with less teeth work? 15 Dec 2014 (Forum)
My first instinct was the glow plugs, as when it is warmer it starts fine albeit still turns slow compared to most cars. I then changed the battery and the cranking was still slow, I did a parasitic draw test and that only showed 0.02 amps, so i decided it was likely the starter motor So I bought a second hand replacement starter motor off of eBay, however the amount of teeth was less, I did check with the drop down menus they have as to whether it would fit.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol 2001 - slow cranking 27 Nov 2014 (Forum)
It only struggles in the morning when the engine is cold say 10c or below. i thought it might be the battery so i got a new heavy duty one for the picasso but the problem remains. Today the temp was below zero and it would not start at all, it cranked over extremly slowly, so slowly i would hardly call it cranking!
  • For Mondeo 2010 Titanium X - Water Ingress corroded the wiring loom 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The car was taken to my local ford dealer - not where I bought it from and they said its water ingress into the wiring loom and it's corroded part of the loom that connects to the battery - anyhow its £384 to fix it....and it's not covered by their warranty as its external factors!  To me that is rubbish - if the car has a leak that's corroding stuff then its down to how the car has been put together.
  • Citroen C3 1.4 Auto 2002. KFV Engine - BSI Dead / ECU Replace 7 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I Bought a Citroen C3 2002 1.4 with head gasket failure. The battery wasn't too clever when I bought it but during my time of repair it went flat. Fixed all the headgasket problem, went to start it, and it turns over but won't fire up. I believe the reason for this is the BSI has either lost its way or has got damaged somehow, as I have no got no power to the dash at all, no lights, and irratic wipers.
  • Honda CR-V 2.2 Diesel 2007 EX - Quoted a helluva lotta money to replace alternator 4 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I think they identified the correct problem as a couple of days ago, the car battery did seem to run out, but i eventually started and is working ok, but the sound is most distressing. Honda say its on its way out and can go any day. They will need to order the part and call us in for a day and get it fixed.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - vauxhall vectra 2005 2.2 petrol (starting problems 10 Mar 2014 (Forum)
hi i have a problem with my vectra i was driving it the other day without any problems starting and that same day i took it to s c motor factors to get parts for my other car, it started fine when i went down there. then came back out and went to start and it just clicks once and all the dash lights go off then back on. so i thought it could be battery so i put a jump pack on but nothing just the sameing. so i bump started it and it started fine but when you put lights on and steer all the dash light flicker and the head lights go dim then off and back on again when you stop steering it all seems fine. i got it home and turned it off and went to start it again and same thing just a click and all lights flickering then all come on and seems fine but wont start. and to top it all of when locking and unlocking to car some times it will unlock and lock it self and the alarm gos off then you hit the button to unlock stops the alarm but you carnt unlock the car lol  what dose people think my problem can be?
  • Peugeot 206 SW 2.0 Hdi 2004 - Horn randomly sounding when parked up 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I left the car unlocked but a few hours later it did the same thing again so I disconnected the battery overnight. The car starts and drives normally and the horn hasn't sounded when I've been driving. Yesterday morning it was parked outside work for about 2 hours before it went off. I've now pulled the fuse until I can get it back to the garage.
  • Fiat Punto 1.2 8v 2002 plate - Fiat Punto MIL lamp wont go out 14 Feb 2014 (Forum)
If it’s cold or you touch the accelerator starting the lamp comes on and stays on. Forums seem to suggest anything from ECU to battery, to leads and plugs, though the plugs should have been changed in the main service. Mr Clutch swapped the Coil Packs out but it made no difference so they put the originals back (and didn’t charge).

  • Nissan Primera P12 - Nissan Primera P12 1.8 (2003) cold start dilemma 18 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Hi folks, I'm hoping someone can help with a nightmare I've been having with my Nissan Primera P12 Petrol 1.8 car since the weather turned cold. The battery is fine and the engine actually turns over, but it just won't start and usually it takes anything up to 10 minutes to get it going. Once it actually starts, it runs like a dream and I can stop it and start it up again instantly for the rest of the day.
  • Vauxhall Astravan 2003, 1.7 dti envoy - Struggling to start 8 Aug 2013 (Forum)
2> fuel pump ecu 3> fuel pump Ive just shelled out a few hundred quid for the injectors. The battery is sound, the starter motor seems to be sound, Ive recently serviced the car changing oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter etc. Any ideas what else it could be? I don't want to throw good money after bad, its already cost me nearly a grand and Im thinking i might as well put any more money to another motor thanks Lee
  • Skoda Fabia - 02 Fabia Brake Lights & Other Electrics 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
They went off when the car was started, moved 3 feet, and stopped and all seemed ok for the rest of the day.  The next morning the battery was completely and utterly flat - no alarm, central locking, radio, even the clock had reset. 3) As well as the above, for some time the radio volume has been "sticky". Sometimes no sound until the volume control is turned up to max.
  • Ford fiesta W reg - Fiesta won't restart after running. 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
    2. cut off - this doesn't seem likely as the engine still fires and I believe this would also cut off the current to the spark plugs? 3. Battery - checked and seems ok. Tried starting car during *won't start* time using jump leads to check. Still wouldn't start Can anyone suggest anything?    Many thanks for your time,   Morsey
  • Lexus RX 450h - Official mpg figures 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
In practice, with extremely carefull driving, the best I could obtain was 34mpg. Lexus firstly tried to reset the electronics and then replaced the battery, but with no improvement.  They then told me that I was alone in having this problem and it must be caused by my driving style!  I felt I was alone in having this problem until I read the Honest John website.
  • Renault Scenic - scenic temp gauge fault bad earth possibly 3 Feb 2013 (Forum)
It can be likethis for weeks on end then I can have weeks when it works perfectly normal I am guessing it's a bad earth as change the temp sensor which did nothing also a few weeks before this started I had the alternator bearing changed and auxillery belt. I have tested the current on battery and what the alternator is sending to the bbattery and all are normal. The temp gauge is the only one playing up if anyone can help with suggestions for where it could be earthed or possible other solutions I would be graeful as when I asked electric guy he said to re earth the whole car at vast exspense
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 1.8tdci engine/DMF problems 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
As soon as i turn the key the glow plug light flashes, car turns over but won't start. In the past 4 months i have had a dual mass flywheel and clutch replaced(£900), battery, and glow plugs also been done. Had a diagnostic check done by ford and another done by an independent garage. The ford results printed off half a tree of paperwork suggesting about 10 possible causes so basically i need to win the lottery to be able to afford to get ford to work through the list!!!
  • KIA Pride (1991 - 2000) - 1999 1.3 Loss of Power 11 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I have had my Kai Pride from new (1999) and she has always run immaculately until the last couple of months. I have replaced the battery and then had the timing belt replaced and since then I have had problems. The trouble is that the car will seem to be driving perfectly ok and then suddenly loses power, to such an extent that I have to pull over on the road and stop.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 02 2.0 Control for computer not working 15 May 2012 (Forum)
Pressing the button to cycle these functions does nothing, i've taken it off the stalk, there's nothing wrong with it. I've reset the machine by disconnecting the battery so it just reads time, date, cd track and temperature but how can I get this fixed so the computer does what it's told to when I press the button. I'm assuming that something every few weeks (poss a knock on the sterring column) is hitting some switch internally that's supposed to be linked to the button but it's just not working the way it's supposed to.
