Nissan Almera - Terrible headlights 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
They passed the MOT in March, so it shouldn't be a defective reflector or anything like that. Plus, the lights on my mum's (newer model) Almera are just as bad. My bulbs are the normal old-fashioned headlight type (usually called bulb 472) - any suggestions how to make them better? Uprated bulbs? ....or is there a way of changing the beam alignment further than the electric thingy inside the car can manage? -
A4 TDi 130PD 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi The auld petrol Vectra is becomming tired and I am seriously considering replacing it with an A4 TDi 130. I have always prefered oil burners, but have never owned any of these new fangled PD engined cars. I usually buy at 2-3 years old and keep for another 5 years moving on when I get a good 160k on the clock. How realistic is this to do on the new generation of PD engines compared to the older style I am used to? -
Windscreen Wipers 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
But there was a clip on each one which came off easy enough but I have a feeling they should be left on. They look like a very small old clothespeg and clipped onto the bar of the blade that would ordinarily clip onto the wiper arm itself. I've kept them in case I need to put them on in some way but they're a new one on me. (The wipers, without these "pegs" clip on and look identical to the old ones). -
removing bumper scuffs 10 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Anybody out there help, a little old lady scraped my back bumper yesterday, 2003 Honda CRV, its the black bumper not the painted one, doesn't seem to have broke the surface just a few lighter (in colour) marks. I have no wish to sting the old dear for a new bumper but would like to get the marks out. -
Reliability: 528i vs S-Type 15 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, a friend is current looking at 5 year-old (1999 S/T/V) RWD automatic with 100k on the clock, large saloon at £5-6,000 to replace his 10 year-old Scorpio. He has narrowed down to BMW 528iASE or Jaguar S-Type 3.0SE auto. Would anyone kindly comment on the 1) which is more reliable? -
MOT- new rules, or just applying the old 14 May 2004 (Forum)
For years now I have grown accustomed to treating the MOT as a kind of free check-up. If the car fails the first attempt, I go and fix it and then get... -
Corolla 1.6 SR 6-Speed 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Thinking of trading in my rather well-used (but reliable, apart from the gearbox whine ?bearing?) Corolla old-shape 1.4 (no air-con or other goodies) for a 1.6 old-shape at much lower mileage - mainly because I know the Corolla now, so know what to look for, and the SR sorts out all the things about my car I don't like - floppy suspension, more engine poke and 6-speed box for the motorway. -
Insurance renewal 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So I can buy from the internet as if I'm a new customer again or pay the renewal at £68 more?! Mmmm (I'm also considering (as I always am) changing the car it's now 3 yrs old - and there's nowt wrong wi'it but I just get the urge. I think I've narrowed it to 1 yera old Leon Cupra or Volvo s60 2.0SE - a curios pair but both a bit different and with 180bhp) -
Omega rust and final drive whine 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
This looks like a serious and expensive problem to rectify, and very disappointing to find on 3 to 4 year old cars. A 94k mile example which I drove had a whine from the rear, even at low speed. I have been surprised not to see these mentioned on this forum. Perhaps the noisy axle is uncommon, but the paint problem is clearly not. -
Mixing tyre brands 20 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Hi All, I'd like a bit of advice on tyre safety. My wife's company car has just had a front tyre replaced. As a result it now has a pair of 2 year old Dunlops on the back and 1 band new Dunlop on the front alongside a 7 year old Goodyear. All are 185/60R14. I was astounded that the lease company would not fork out for a matching pair on the front for obvious reasons of safety. -
Battery replacement - the sequel ... 3 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Some feedback on the extremely complex battery changing manoeuvre. The thought of trying to support the car's electronics using an old battery and some crocodile clips made me nervous so I made my own "memory saver" out of a redundant mains mobile phone charger (11.75 smooth volts, kind to electronics) and cigar-lighter plug with a built-in 2A fuse. -

Toyota HSD - Advice. Old man put down deposit, changes mind 7 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I warned him that he will not get all his money back. Turns out that its company policy that if you want to reject a car , the cost is 10% of the car. As he paid 1k, 10% means an extra £350 for him to get out of the contract. An alternative is to buy another Toyota. There is no cooling off period as he physically went to the dealership , test drove the car and thrashed out a good deal on both the car and the px. -
Mercedes chassis component rusted - is there anything I can do? 8 Nov 2012 (Ask HJ)

Scrapyards 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Besides, it is those who have little understanding of a scrapyard who comment on the supposed eyesore. Definetly a place for the better and to be used more often. My 11 year old stepson had never been to one before and absolutely loved it, all the different badges of the cars were there, he isn't even into cars a huge amount, but he was happy. So when are you going? Blimey reading this I sound like an old bloke, I'm only 30! -
BMW 3 Series Touring - My 11 year old diesel 3 series touring 26 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I have had it since new, so know all that has happened to it -not much actually. It was my company car originally then I bought it at 3 year old. I think I have been lucky. as the only mechanical parts it has needed while I owned it was rear tailgate struts, a leakoff pipe and a shock absorber, plus one battery and tyres and servicing. -

Classic cars, bikes older Outboards Chainsaws ETC - Ethanol in Fuel ( by EU Directive ) 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Expect more of the same, because E15 (15 per cent ethyl alcohol) received government blessing last year and there’s evidence that even relatively recent cars might find it hard to digest. In the UK, oil companies are coy about saying which petrol contains ethanol, so owners of classic vehicles have to find out the hard way. Many old and not so old vehicles will be unusable without modification (the DfT puts the figure at 8.6 million if E10 is introduced). -
