Best Diesel? 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
In the column Honest John regularly recommends premium petrol such as Shell Optimax. Is there any benefit to my car, e.g. longevity, fuel economy of purchasing Shell Diesel, Shell Diesel Plus or am I best to stick to Tesco's cheapest? I am interested in technical details or other websites if anyone can point me in the right direction please. -
Megane power loss 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Sometimes, shortly after starting the car and moving off, he experiences a short but dramatic loss of power, and it is almost as if the car is on the brink of stalling. It then immediately picks up again. I suspect that this could be caused by 101 different fuel/ignition problems, but is this is in fact a common problem? I would be delighted to know. Thanks is advance! -

Americans ! 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
http://www.iht.com/articles/124902.html "Subaru car is becoming a 'truck' to sidestep U.S. fuel rules" Only in America - the Outback is to become a 'truck', so it can continue to be nice & polluting ! Bit like all those double-cab truck things that are sprouting up everywhere over here - since they're trucks as far as the VAT man is concerned they're cheaper to run than your Mr Farmers Off-Road vehicle - nice to know where your tax goes ! -

He has exhausted the local Vauxhall dealer, they have referred him direct to Vauxhall, who say that the new gearbox does not have antirunback feature as a fuel economy measure. Can anybody with similar car advise ? -
Peugeot 1.9 Tdi 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have looked at the oil and it seems ok, though there is evidence of coolant running down the block, it looks like it has come from the head gasket just behind the fuel pump/govenor thingy. Any advice on how much this will cost to replace, will it be throwing money away? Thanks in advance, Mike. -

I want to keep this car for many years.Your opinions will be greatly received. Or any other make of car for that matter. -

Saxo Digital dash reset 21 May 2003 (Forum)
I have a Citroen Saxo VTS that I recently took to a garage because there was a fault with the fuel gauge. It was covered under the 3 yr extended Citroen warranty and the dash/instruments was replaced. When it was replaced they did not re-program the dash with my old mileage which to me seems wrong. -
Increased consumption 4 May 2003 (Forum)
Over the past 3 months or so my car\'s fuel consumption has increased markedly. Average consumption used to be in the high fifties. Now it\'s about 50 mpg. The car is a Peugeot diesel (mileage 204,000) I can\'t detect a leak & my driving pattern hasn\'t altered. -
Zafira diesel - Has the thirst for oil b 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Are new ones now free from the problem, or would prospective Zafira purchasers be wise to stick to petrol (or even duo-fuel ) versions? Or is the problem so minor that it shouldn't be considered? KB. -
Oomph or wuss? 2 Dec 2002 (Forum)
If I wanted to maximise economy over (say) one minute is it better to 1) Put my foot down and go from 0 to 60mph in (arbitrarily) 10 seconds, then spend 50 seconds cruising at 60mph. 2) Ease onto the throttle as if it were nitro-glycerine and take 30 seconds to get to 60mph, then cruise at 60mph for the remaining 30 seconds. Which technique will use more fuel? -

Warning light on MR2 23 May 2002 (Forum)
It originally started lighting after about 15 miles, now after as little as 2 miles. The light looks a bit like an in-line fuel filter (sort of a square box with a straight pipe on either side), and has heat haze lines above it. Does anyone know what this light means? D7 -

Diesel drivers can rejoice first time since 2001 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
As well as the switch to winter gasoline, increased heating demand across Europe in the coming winter months will also help reverse the trend because diesel is now an almost identical fuel to the one that’s used to keep homes warm. The recent plunge in crude oil prices, with Brent crude falling to the lowest in more than six years, will see pump prices both fuels in the U.K. fall by another 2 pence a liter in the next few of weeks, according to Whatters. -
Ford Mondeo - 2001 Mondeo 2.0tddi - various/related problems? 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Why else would there be metal filings on crank sensor? 3. Why the timing issue? 4. Could it be throttle sensor problem? 5, If fuel pump problem (have read quite a few threads on this and other forums) would injectors still be under pressure? 6. Problems with surging seem to be when turbo comes in, could it be fuel pump problem that is only evident when you the turbo starts pulling more fuel through? -
What's the point of the Hats?! 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
"No problemo", breezed the SM - except that the special finance deal was coming to an end, and if we were to benefit from it a car had to be ordered as soon as possible (I know...I know) SM made suggestion - pay a £500 deposit to allow an order to be placed on the system - and if it transpired that the fuel pump was one of the dodgy brand, no problem, the £500 would be immediately refunded. What was there to lose?..... So, a call to his boss at the dealership who confirmed the refund, if necessary, and a £500 credit card payment duly made, lot's of handshaking, and exit one happy SM On the fol owing Monday it soon became clear that the car *did* have the unwanted fuel pump! -
Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - Signum rambles - The epilogue 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The Vauxhall was much quieter both in terms of engine and wind noise and had a lovely swell of torque which made it surprisingly diesel like to drive in the best sense. Never a keen revver though with a funny flat spot about 4.5k revs. Fuel consumption was good at around 37 mpg with my mainly long haul, fully laden usage and as mentioned elsewhere, when the fuel price differential was 10p a litre it worked out at the same pence per mile fuel cost as the Mondeo.
