Wheels slipping 19 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I can think of two solutions: 2 new 'high quality' tyres (recommendations please). or Put larger alloys on with new tyres to increase contact patch with road (currenty 15's). -
Rev an engine before switching off? 12 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Not sure that I entirely agree with HJ?s comment in the DT today, in response to a letter from DS HJ says that one should not rev an engine before switching off because it will leave the cylinders flooded with fuel. However with regard to a modern fuel injected normally aspirated petrol engine the fuel is cut off as soon as the ignition is cut so a few extra revolutions of the engine will leave it with fresh air in the cylinders as opposed to fuel or acidic exhaust gasses. -
Bargains at the car auctions today! 2 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Was snooping around the Manheim car auctions today(Colchester) with lots of Mercedes C and S class cars,so much so that towards the end there were absolutely fantastic cars with only 3 or 4 people present as the audience + the auctioneers and staff .ie total less than 10 present. Pity I didnt require a Mercedes! -

Predecessors & successors 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The race is on since forever and the industry is pushing hard, trying to convince everyone that the new model is way better than its predecessor. But is it always a rule of a thumb ? Let?s take a Merc E-class W124, as an example. Nice car... then in ?96 came the W210 (the rusty one, though only at the beginning, BUT still rusty). And the current one, well... Figure it out for yourself... -
Michelin @ Indy - Volume 2 2 Jul 2005 (Forum)
{This follows on from Volume 1, which can be found here:} http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=32780 DD =================================================================== To add to F1's woes in America, Bernie made a spectacular gaffe live on US TV during the weekend. When asked what he thought of Danica Patrick, who had this year achieved national acclaim by becoming the first female to lead the Indy 500 before finishing fourth, he replied, "Women should be dressed in white, like all domestic appliances" His ready wit has has gone down like a lead balloon in the land of the free. -
Computer Related Questions - Volume 55 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
She has emailed her cv to various places and was amazed to find that one company not only had the cv she had sent but had managed to read the saved(unedited/corrected) version(s)of it. We run windows xp pro and microsoft word. I have two questions. 1 Is this possible and how? An explanation suitable for a computer illiterate would be appreciated. 2 I told her to copy the text in reasonable "chunks" and paste it into a new document which would not need editing. -
volvo s60 t5 SE VERY camber sensitive!!! 11 May 2005 (Forum)
on a left camber it pulls to the left, and vice versa. does any one else have this problem with s60's? it maybe due to volvo not putting the sub-frame back on properly after a new gearbox was fitted????? volvo have tried laser aligning the wheels - that has helped alot - i have tried everthing - front wheels on back and vice versa, tyre pressures are fine, distance between rear and front wheels are equal. any ideas would be mostly appreciated, Thanks!!!! -

choosing new tyres...any suggestions 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
i need a set of 4 195/50/15 tyres for my mk2 golf gti, id like a set that lasts fairly well rather than ones that offer super duper grip ive been looking on www.mytyres.co.uk theres alot of tyres to choose from under £40, ive used goodyears before with no problems and have a set of gsd3's on my other golf, but i havent done enough miles to see how they wear can anyone suggest a place that reviews tyres? or whats good or bad , id prefer to use known brands unless someone can persuade me otherwise -

Omega Sat-Nav 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Car> 1998-S-Reg, Omega 3ltr V6 Elite Estate. Right, the Sat-Nav keeps turning itself on and off. Sometimes the disc will start spinning (hear the noise) and sometimes the screen will light up, then turn itself off again. -
Vectra engine cuts out at traffic lights 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
We have a Vauxhall vectra in good condition which has done 120,000 miles. Having had the above mentioned problems, saw Hj\'s comments regarding supermarket petrol and took his advice to add an additive to the tank followed by Shell Optimax/Texaco Clean system and problem appears to have eased. However, it still does appear at the most inoportune times, but not as often and although HJ sugested fitting new HT leads, this had already been done. -

Tax Exemt Vehicles 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
The 20 year limit probably exempted many old bangers that were hanging on for a year or two before going to the scrapyard. However a 30 year limit would not include many such vehicles. Some of the over 30's may be tatty, but they're usually kept for interest by enthusiasts. Cheers, Sofa Spud -
Cassette stuck in player - Ford Focus 3 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Mrs smokie uses listening books on cassette to help her journey to work pass quicker. Tonight she had a tape which was going slower then faster, and now it won\'t eject. It\'s from the same set which unravelled itself inside the player a few nights ago (different tape though). I tried ejecting, the tape moves upwards but not outwards. Although I can grip it with pliers, it seems to be locked in position. -
Peugeot 307 steering pump noise. 8 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I took delivery of a new Peugeot 307 S in December 2003. As soon as I started it I was aware of a high pitched whine. This whine varies when the steering wheel is moved. The dealer seems to think there is nothing wrong with this, even though it sounds like a microwave oven.
