  • Peugeot 307 H.D.I.ceramic filter. 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I have four 307 in my fleet, one is due it's 48k service. The Peugeot garage have informed the driver that a fuel additive is required plus a ceramic particulate filter needs to be replaced at a cost of around five hundred pounds. The supplying dealer's sevice manager "thinks" that the parts are issued f.o.c.by Peugeot, the servicing garage disputes this.
  • Zafira hesitation on part throttle 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The problem is when just touching the accelerator pedal after slowing down etc. It is as though the fuel has stopped pumping for a split second. Then it catches up and all is well. Anybody seen anything like this on an Ecotec engine? My first thought is a vaccuum leak but I can't find one.
  • Air Filters !! 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I was looking on ebay the other day as i need a new gear knob for my '98 Primera when I saw loads of 'K+N' type air filters for sale. All proclaiming more power and improved fuel economy.. Are these claims pants ??? I thought they were just put on cars by silly little boys.. My car has 89000 on the clock and still runs like new, would it be worth getting one??

  • Rover 4.6 V8 Conversion 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Having no electrics on the 4.6 for ignition can i fit the timing chest from the 3.5 incorporating the distributor housing etc. An inlet manifold and carbs will solve the fuel problem. A gearbox that will handle the power any idears? Regards Dave .
  • BMW 316ti Problem 20 Sep 2004 (Forum)
When the car is started from cold, it is very 'spluttery' (as if the choke hadn't been out for long enough!) and noisy. Once it has warmed up, it still seems 'flat' and as if it is in need of fuel. I have taken it to my local dealer 5 times, but they can't find anything wrong with it!! Does anyone have any ideas please???
  • Dash Light problem - 1989 Polo Classic 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I have a nigling problem with my dash board warning lights. About 1 in 20 times when I turn on the ignition that lights fail to work along with the fuel gauge. The Hi-beam indicator works fine sugesting the the issue is with the the 12v feed from the ignition switch. Each time I remove the dash everything, of course, works fine. Any suggestions????

  • 'Energy' tyres - worth the extra cost? 7 May 2004 (Forum)
Currently fitted with Michelin Energy, these are about £10 per tyre more than the standard Michelins. Does anyone have any data to show whether or not these are worthwhile in terms of better fuel consumption? Or is this just another ploy to charge a higher price?? All advice would be welcome. CG
  • Accord Coupe 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The 3.0 is 200bhp and 0-60 in about 8 secs which sound like fun. However presumably the downside is worse fuel consumption (not too worried about this); higher servicing costs?; harder to sell in 3/4 years time?? Any other views? Is a V6 likely to be less smooth than the 4?
  • Golf MkII Central Locking 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Recently however, the pump makes a noise in the boot and nothing happens. This wouldn't be much of a problem, had the fuel filler cap latch not locked! Consequently, I can't fill her up. Any ideas? Should I just prise it open? thanks frustrated jim
  • Do spoilers work 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have had one or two questions regarding do spoilers work.I gather on small cars that.they don`t and are purely there for looks.in some cases are there to help the cars fuel economy if it so needs it. My question is if a spoiler is installed upside down will it cause the car to lift off the road. Not litteraly but take the weight off the road wheel.so causing a loss of traction on rear wheels.I am no expert on spoilers.
  • Top gear and cooking oil 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have a diesel and am dersperate to know whats going on with this cooking oil thing. Is it totally legal? Is it a new liable fuel for the future? How on earth can cooking oil be combustable, i now diesel isn't that combustable but at least its part of the fractional distilation process!!! Some technical minded person or even someone who's tried it must be able to shed some light on this?
  • Contents of boot 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
In the interests of performance and fuel economy, after 40 years of accumulating tools (and junk!) in my toolbag in the boot, I've taken out all but what I consider to be essential. I am now left with jack, torque wrench and sockets for wheelnuts and spark plugs, single-use camera in case of an accident, torch, AA membership card, and mobile phone.
  • Diesel injectors 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Having read most of the threads on diesel emissions, and the use of fuel additive injector cleaners (which I use regularly), I have the following question: If diesel smoke problems are just the result of the injectors, will replacing the injectors eliminate the smoke thus making the engine as clean as it was when it was new ?
  • ZX Diesel Hot Starting 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
However, if I get it moving at walking pace it will bymp start easily. Tried all the usual diesel faults; air leaks, glows, fuel solenoid. Any advice??
  • Omega 2.5 CD Estate 9 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I've looked at H J's car by car break down but it doesn't give me what I want. Also any ideas on realistic fuel consumption. Thanks
  • Peugeot 307s - eek! 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I like the car but want to know if I'm buying trouble - never mind all the nightmare stories I've just read on the net! Could it be that it was v low on diesel? The fuel light was on. Thanks in advance etc.
  • BMW 320dSE Saloon 18 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have a Touring, which is 80kg heavier than the saloon, with a F.D. ratio of 2.35, and was wondering if this is lower than the saloon, and help explain the lower fuel consumption (39 mpg average) that I am getting. - BMW claim aggregate consumption of 51 mpg.
  • Xsara Temperature 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Mine runs at 75C; I'd have thought it should be higher, but the garage tell me that this engine 'is designed to run cool'. they also say that the overall fuel consumption of 43mpg is 'about right'. the car is 13 months old, covered 13k miles. Maybe things will change after it's had it's first service next weekend.......?
