GS 1200 brief road test 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sorry for the large size; I chose "standard" which normally resizes, but it didn't in this case. http://www.bmwmotos.com/galeria/bmw/albums/gali/brh.sized.jpg To sum up: PU - I can see why you love yours! :-) Look past the ugliness of the front end and one of the world's best road going motorcycles is to be found. -
Used family car - CX5? 3 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Audi Q5 would be nice, but examples at that price would be fairly high mileage also. Have considered the BMW X1 , but seems expensive for the spec, and an X3 would be of more interest, but then it's an extra few years on the clock for the budget, and the maintenance cost (and insurance) sounds like a fairly big uptick from the CX5. -
Mini - ALL - Clock ticking on condition based services 3 Jul 2021 (Forum)
While the condition based usage adopted by Mini & BMW can be useful if you are a low mileage driver, there is a massive flaw in the system. Last year we bought a 'new', unregistered F55 Cooper S, reg in June. Today, the oil change warning appeared on the Mini app. -
Peugeot RCZ 1.THP - Main dealer used car warranty, wear & tear 7 Sep 2018 (Forum)
As the car I wanted ha to be low miles and a certain spec, bought from this dealer who belongs to another Marque, main dealer. The 1.6THP is used in BMW's as well as Renaults I think and had a reputation for the timing chain to fail. I noted a slight rattle from the engine about 2 months ago, ie when we had the car 8 months. I'm the second owner, the car has full Peugeot service history and I had it service through Peugeot a couple of months ago, the 5th service at about 17700 miles. -
Focus/Astra n/a 1.6 Petrol: Really useless? 11 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have been finding my driving is quite susceptible to my moods (bad mood = faster and more aggressive) so maybe somethng that can't go too fast would be good!! ;-) Had a 186 BHP BMW 320D once, never got anywhere close to it's capabilities, just once at 125mph on the Autobahn........ -
any - first ever visit to an auction 7 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I almost took a punt on a scruffy but one owner, full history 2004 Avensis 1.8 petrol which also went for £700. Surprising was how much older german cars went for - an example was a very scruffy 2004 BMW 320d estate which I think went for about 2k. It was a right state, budget tyres, paint scratched, dented and faded, and the sill on one side was taped up with gaffer, filthy interior. Overall it was an enjoyable and informative evening. -
The death of the diesel engine? 19 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Klaus Schmidt, director of vehicle engineering for start-up Chinese brand Qoros (and previously head of chassis development at BMW’s M division), said he, too, thought diesel engines would markedly decline in importance by the end of the decade, citing ever more stringent pollution regulations as the cause. Some 50 per cent of new cars sold in the UK are diesels, well behind the 70 per cent in Spain and France, but not far short of the EU average of 55 per cent. -
any - driving in China 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
In a normal apartment block I was staying in on East Coast , I saw a new Rolls Royce Phantom and no end of latest BMW / Audi models - and these all cost double our prices there. All cars , including MB ML, Landcruisers , Q7, S class , X5 , running on unleaded at about 80p a litre ( no cars ran on diesel at all ) Driving standards are bad. -
bmx x6 - I Bought a Stolen Car without Knowing 26 Jan 2013 (Forum)
[endif]--> hi can i get help or advice please November 2012 I saw an advert on the Auto Trader website for a car which i thought was perfect, it was for a BMW X6 XDrive 2009 going for £22,000. I was over the moon because i had been looking for a 4X4 vehicle for a long time and this one in particular was right up my budget. I contacted the seller and over the telephone we came to an agreement that the seller would accept £21, Your thoughts on my possible car change 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Audi A4 or A6 but, apart from the 3.0D, they appear to be slower than the above and slower than my current XJ BMW 3 series or 5 series.Seeem to have a good name but, well, they are rather boring looking machines and the Run Flats are of no use to me as, when home, my nearest Big tyre fitter is 87miles away from my front door. -
Next Car Advice/Recommendation... 27 Oct 2011 (Forum)
If you can name it then I’ve probably looked at it, Volvo S40/S60, Ford Focus/Mondeo, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW 3/5, Seat, Honda, Toyota anything in the mid/large hatchback/saloon category I have considered! The last two I was looking at were a Mercedes C Class with 150k and a Lexus IS200 S with 80k, both for around £3,000. -
Ford Mondeo TDCi 130 Zetec - Replacement for poor Mondeo 26 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I'm angling towards an Accord (2003 onwards) because my wife has a Civic which is a gem to drive and just feels that much better made than the Ford, but have also considered everything from Volvo V50/S60/V70 to an old BMW 5 series diesel (though I think there's some wish fulfilment there!), to a Passat (though I know they may not be great high-milers), to the old model Audi A6. I'd really appreciate it if Backroomers could offer opinions on those cars as sound buys, what it's like running an older high-mileage car (it would be a first for me), and any suggestions about other family-size vehicles. -
Limited info to choose a new car for Mrs H 29 Aug 2009 (Forum)
How difficult can that be?" She disappears only to return a second later, "And don't be looking at any posey BMWs either." So I'm turning to you lot for help. Allemagne null points. Budget about £8k with the maybe £2k we'd get for her '02 diesel C3. Suggestions outside the box welcome. Bewildered of Richmond. -
Bulgarian Motoring Observations 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Due to the road closure we had to stop off in Sunny Beach for a few hours and my first observation was the quality of the cars now. There is a total abundance of BMWs, Mercs, Audis, Range Rovers etc. whether this is from the property market or the renowned Bulgarian crimelords who knows! Also saw a Maybach, and Orange Lambo and a White Ferrari soft top! All the Bms are 7 series, have only saw one 5 series and no 3 or 1s. -
Recent purchase - obtaining a refund? 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Need some advice regards how I stand regards getting my money back on a car I purchased last week. I purchased the car (bmw) on the 5/6/07 for £4000 from a trader. The trader has various high end models on his for court. I was told by the sales man that the car needed valeting and a service and this was why the car was so cheap. -
Sat Nav for a bike. 27 May 2007 (Forum)
A missing bolt stopped me fitting it initially and then I had to wait for the bike to go for a Service for those very nice men at BMW to hardwire it into the bike's loom. Anyway job done yesterday and after fruitless hunt in two local hardware shops for a bolt (an AF thread would you credit it !) I found the original on the floor of the garage as I was about to unleash a hacksaw on the metric replacement that cost me all of 45p for three..... .********* Garmin are a very big name in portable sat-nav and I think that's where there downfall is..... -

Pug 406 - Died, any ideas? 10 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My initial gut feel was cam-belt, my dad having had similar symptoms in his M-Reg Omega recently (now replaced with a Primera Sport I believe), and as described by a friend in his F-Reg BMW 525 (lot of it around recently!). Anyway, called breakdown, who turned up at around 0245, he asked if i'd tried to start it. I said "no, thought it might be cambelt so didnt dare". To which, his response was "well, if you were doing 50 or so, it's gonna be broken anyway, may as well give it a go" and proceeded to turn the key, not a lot i could do.. -

Taken me a week to get round to posting this, but.... An open letter to the driver of the silver BMW estate. Last Friday, when I was going down the M3 (north of Winchester) in fast moving but heavy traffic, you came up behind the car behind me in a very aggressive manner and flashed him mercilessly out of your way.
