  Fair enough, a motoring journalist deserves to receive an income for sharing his expertise- but are we to conclude that HJ generates income by recommending certain brands of new cars ... tyres, fuel, etc.? If so, surely any recommendations should be accompanied by a declaration of interest.

    I have a 07' lawnmower with the GCV 135 engine. Got a problem where the engine gets too much fuel, so i was thinking about getting a new carb. So when i was browsing ebay i found loads that look similar to mine but there is another part number, is it possible to put another carb with a different part number on it?

  It doesnt sound like there anything sinister. Just sounds like a noisy diesel. Is this the norm for these engines? I have read about faulty fuel injectors could be a potential cause.

  problems starting replaced glow plug relay glow plugs fuel filter and battery will start if jumped from another car but after it's been for a run struggles to start again no lights on dash feels like I'm running out if ideas sometimes takes up to 12 goes to start it and sometimes won't start at all any ideas

  Keeping away from the boxes of doom in their various guises, the choice seems to be a venga or i20 auto, but the fuel consumption is poor. thinking a size smaller, suzuki celerio??? any other suggestions,? Must be Torque converter type box

  Hi, I changed my fuel pump yesterday and it ran fine then half way down the moterway it stated making a really loud noise, almost sounding like a Harley, still does it today, seems to be coming from the engine rather than exhaust, any help?

  This one has caught my eye. Seems quite quick and a bit frugal on fuel and also I can only see them in auto form ( ideally I want an auto)  So is the Mondeo 2.0 petrol Ecobbost engine any good? Also how good is the auto gearbox? Finally is any of it especially expensive to repair?

  I was thinking of buying a Tino as its Japanese , which means reliability and its in my budget which is very low . If anyone has any ideas I will welcome them .   i have an old corsa b 1.2 1993,when the engine is running and i switch on anything electrical,lights,wipers,heater etc,the engine cuts out and wont restart,sometimes for a few days,ignition lights all stay on but there is no power to anything,and no fuel getting to engine,any ideas alternator and battery both ok

  When it apears the engine starts vibrating and check engine light flashes, accelerating makes the whole car vibrate. I'm thinking of water contaminated fuel.  Any ideeas on what might be the problem ? Thank you!

  I am neurotic.  A number of cars I see have stop start engines for fuel efficiency.  Does this result in problems for time taken moving off from, for example, traffic lights and more importantly emerging from a junction after being stationary ? Are there differences in the technology used by different manufacturers ?

  Sometimes it is possible to get it to accelerate up beyond the cutout and then it will run all day. it started 7 days ago and is getting worse. Is there a sensor which checks the fuel pressure for failsafe? if so where is it?

    But now it has a new problem: The van starts but wont rev up, when I try to it wants to die  -changed the fuel fillter  -ran it off a jerry can incase it was the tank. Still the same! Thanks for any help.

    Luckily the car's occupants were well clear of the blaze.  Given how fiercely it was burning, I could only think a fuel line had broken in the engine bay and had leaked in quantity into the engine.   Are car fires common these days?

  Hi,i was wondering if anyone would be able to shed any light on this problem. I can't open the flap to get to the fuel cap. Is this a motorised mechanism? Because i have an extended warrentee on the car from the place i bought it from as the car is only 4 years old and hasnt even got 30,000 on the clock. They are refusing to repair it as it is only a wear and tear item and not mechanical or electrical.

  This morning he was just getting it out of the garage as we walked passed and 30 minutes later its still sat there idling happilly away. Totally unbelieveable. What a waste of fuel.
