BMW 1 Series - The Depreciation Dilemma 29 Mar 2016 (Forum)
We often keep our cars to the death in our family as at least we know where we stand. Seeking a used BMW 1 Series I came across a pleasantly specced car that was a gnat's whisker under 10k but SIX years old to the day. I know they have to make a profit but the trade in price of said car is arounf £5750 if you are lucky. -
Rover 75 - Rover 75 and bmw 320 diesels 23 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Much has been said about oil-change intervals and vehicle inspections, but I see no mention of the crankcase breather system. My 75 with the BMW 2.00l diesel entered Bristol last week followed by a billow of blue smoke and a good smothering of oil in the engine bay. Recovery diagnosed blown turbo seals. On recovery back to my mechanic in New Forest the problem was swiftly found to be the crankcase breather. -
BMW 1 Series - Gap Insurance - Who to go with 26 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I've been reading about some horror stories when it comes to GAP insurance whereby the company appears to be legitimate however, when their "net worth" was researched they only have £500 in the bank. So for my new car, so I go with the one BMW are offering or source my own - have you guys got any good suggestions for companies that offer the same service but at a cheaper premium? Cheers, Lee. -

I have a budget of £3.5-£4.5k and really keen on BMW 520d, 525d or even 530d (after speaking to a friend who convinced me to go for the 530d but a fuel guzzler??). Any recommendation? What car? I need an auto for definate, has to be comfortable as I had a merc e220 before but being in my 30's i felt kind of old in the merc (no offence) . -
Rough ride on BMW 5 Series 6 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)
I borrowed a BMW 3 Series recently, on runflat low profile tyres, and noticed the ride was considerably smother than my 5 Series on 17-inch wheels. Why... -
BMW 5 Series E60 - DPF 21 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Having been a very happy 520SE auto petrol owner for the last 15 years, i am looking at buying a stunning BMW 520DSE Automatic with 69k on a 60 plate which has already been serivced 3 time and looks to have done mainlly motorway driving. BUT I have seen worrying reports about the DPF. I only drive between 10-20 miles a day on a motorway so will may reach 70mph for about 5 mins. occasional longer drives. -
BMW Z3 - Run flat tyres 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Yesterday my partner and I got a puncture in her Hyundai Getz and I was very impressed when she whipped out the spare wheel and a Jack and replaced it. I would have been on the phone to the AA. This has got me thinking about my new (to me) BMW Z3. It doesn't have a spare wheel because it is so small, which means if I had a punture in the middle of rural north Yorkshire where we live, I would be totally stuck. Are run flat tyres a good idea for this situation? -
BMW 4 Series - petrol or diesel? 12 Feb 2014 (Ask HJ)
I want to buy a new BMW 4 Series. Taking into account I will do around 12,000 to 14,000 miles per year, would you recommend the petrol 428i or 420d diesel? -
BMW 1 Series - Looking for an upgrade - taking any suggestions 25 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I am now 19, and looking to upgrade to something slightly better, now that i've reached my two years of driving. I've been looking at a 2010 BMW 1 Series Coupe or Maybe even a 3 Series Saloon. I'm willing to take any suggestions however. What does everyone else think? I don't really want to spend more than £12,000, and I don't want a car with much more than 30,000 miles. -

535i (petrol) - BMW reliability fuel system 26 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Recovered to Arden again. 7 days waiting for part from Germany, turned out to be intermediate fuel pump (there are 3 pumps apparently). Not a very good experience. I have owned BMWs - mostly 7s - for over 20 years and had no failures at all, so confidence is a bit low at the moment. Is this a trend? -
BMW X3 XDRIVE - D Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer dec 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, Suggestion is highly appreciated. I am looking to buy BMW X3 XDRIVE from a private seller and I have got HPI check done on it and the check came back with the below D Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle - The mileage on the car says 22000 but the check came back with 40000 Should I look at buying the car or just pass it.If I wish to sell it in future would the Category D effect the price. -
MINI Cooper 2013 - Parts delivery frustration 3 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Is there anybody out there who is in the same boat as I am? I have been waiting almost 8 weeks for a offside door barrel lock for my new Mini Cooper from BMW in Germany. BMW customer services have told me the part is in now in Germany after 8 weeks of chasing around in circles! BMW customer services still can't tell me when the part will be delivered to England! -
What run flats are quietest? 14 Feb 2013 (Ask HJ)
I will soon need to change the tyres on my BMW 530d. It is currently fitted with Bridgestone Potenza 225x50 on 17inch rims. The tyres are fairly noisy... -
BMW 300 E46 - Ignition key failure 25 Apr 2012 (Forum)
The ignition key on my wife's car fails to start the vehicle, although it opens/closes the door wirelessly. She took it to the BMW dealer and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it but a replacement would cost £70+ and proof of ownership documentation provided. I checked on various websites and this appears to be a not uncommon problem, with the EWS chip in the key failing to communicate with the ignition enabling circuit in the steering wheel. -
BMW 320D - Cheap Windscreen Solution When Not Covered By Ins 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I have motor trade insurance which doesn't cover windscreens in the same way as a private policy. Very strangely, I've noticed a massive crack in the windscreen of a E90 BMW 320D after a test drive last night. I remember years ago it cost about £900 to replace a windscreen on a E65 7 series - does anyone know of any companies that supply and fit windscreens at a lower cost? -
BMW 3 Series Touring - Parking sensors on the blink 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, When I engage reverse my parking sensors start beeping indicating that I am close to hitting an object, this happens even when it is clear. this is an inconsistent problem as 1 in 3 times it works fine. My local BMW dealer has ran it through their diagnostics however everything indicates it is working normally. the next step they have suggested is to remove the bumper and take a look. Before I commit to paying their labour rates for doing this does anyone have any ideas as to what it can be? -
BMW 5 Series E60 - Main Dealer Servicing vs Independent Specialist 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I've got a 57-reg BMW 520d SE. It came with a "service inclusive" package so I've been getting it serviced for free by a main dealer, but once I've done 60,000 miles (currently on 55,000) I'm going to have to pay. While I've been happy with the work done by the main dealer, they are rather expensive - £175 for an oil change. -
BMW 5 Series E60 - 520d Msport autobox judder 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The usual elementary checks were made. filters, injectors, compression, glow plugs, etc and all was ok The local BMW dealer kept it for two days during hard weather leaving it outside, and said the problem was in the Dme control unit that manages all the fuel and air settings. This was replaced and it went away for a while.
