    Despite his four wins, Wilson is some way behind in the drivers' standings after missing two races. Leading overall thanks to wins in his class in all six races to date is Mike Cutt, from Strensall near York in his BMW. Cutt said: “I need to keep my consistency going – I’m only two points ahead and there are some other very strong contenders in some of the other classes who also keep winning so it’s important that I keep racking up maximum scores.”

  • Electric car uptake presents 'challenge' for UK power network 16 Jan 2020 (News)
    But if demand increases, the report warns that today's electricity demand could increase by nearly a third, with estimates suggesting that peak demand could increase by 24GW by 2050. This could lead to huge powercuts as the electricity network fails to keep up with demand. To counter this, experts say the development of a new smart grid needs to be accelerated. Rather than relying on a small number of power stations, a smart grid would also take power from a large number of smaller providers, including renewable energy such as wind farms and solar panels.

    The Audi 80 B3 was a highly advanced car for its era, with neat flush glazing, class-leading aerodynamics and its ‘Procon-Ten’ safety system, which was displaced by (but arguably not bettered by) the mandatory use of airbags. It was a fine car, but if anything let it down it was the powertrains, which came from a choice of proven, tried and tested Volkswagen-Audi four-cylinder units that were dependable enough but a little bit boring.  An Audi 80 1.8, for example, came with plenty of feel-good factor, amazingly handsome looks, an upmarket images and a distinct lack of poke.
  • Fast Fords set to go under the hammer at NEC show 24 Oct 2019 (News)
    A host of fast Fords are going under the hammer at the NEC classic motor show next month. Leading the charge is a 1972 RS1600 Custom Mk1 in a glorious light blue estimated at £58,000 to £68,000. Built at Ford’s AVO factory with a BDA engine, this 1972 example is one of 1137 cars built, the vendor knows his Fords and is a collector of rare and immaculate cars from the marque.
  • Toyota and Kenworth prove that Hydrogen Fuel Cells can power heavy duty electric trucks. 23 Apr 2019 (News)
    The new truck is based on the Kenworth T680 Class 8 model, fitted with Toyota’s fuel cell electric technology. Pioneered by the Port of Los Angeles, with leading support from Toyota, Kenworth and Shell, it provides a large-scale ‘Shore-to-Store’ plan and a framework for freight facilities to structure operations for future goods movement. The initiative will help reduce emissions by more than 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide and 0.72 weighted tonnes of other harmful emissions, including nitrous oxides, reactive organic gas (ROG) and PM10 particulates.

    This 1996 Rover 216 Coupe in Tahiti Blue for sale  has clocked up 103k and has benefited from some work over the years, including a new clutch, replacement sub frames, new ignition leads, plus belts for the alternator. The rear sills were also welded a few years ago. So, what’s the catch? Well, the MoT certificate ran out at the end of 2016 and the car hasn’t moved since.
  • Bentley triumphs in Road to Saigon endurance rally 6 Mar 2018 (News)
    The 1925 Bentley Super Sports of Graham and Marina Goodwin reigned supreme on the Endurance Rally Association’s The Road to Saigon rally. Holding their lead on the Vintageant category from the start line in Singapore right the way to the finish in Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City as it is now known). Former Peking to Paris entrant Andrew Webster and his co-driver Ian Robertson took second place in their 1939 Chevrolet Master 85.

    With 70,000 miles on the clock, it comes with a full MoT and some service history. Recent work includes new spark plugs, HT leads, distributor cap and rotor arm, plus coil and crank sensor. All of which should make sure it’s a good starter as we head into the darker, colder months. Inside, it has the original half-leather seats and the rest of the interior looks in good nick, although the driver’s seat has a bit of wear.

  • MPs roast Vauxhall chiefs over Zafira car fires 7 Feb 2017 (News)
    These improper repairs, which Vauxhall says may have been conducted without the owners’ knowledge, can lead to overheating of the system’s electrical components and cause a potential fire. Vauxhall says resistors should never be repaired, they should only be replaced. Vauxhall is now launched a second national recall for the Zafira B in 2017 to prevent fires by replacing the soldered fuse resistor with a wax fuse resistor.

    Recent work includes replacing that clutch, a new radiator, replacement rear wheelarches, replacement alloys (14in Scirocco Scala Snow Flakes), fuel pump and a few service items (air filter, spark plugs and HT leads). We’re told that all the electrics work (lights, indicators, radio, fans, wipers). Only the horn didn’t work so that’s been re-routed and is on a separate button under the dash.
  • Government announces £500m “electric highways” trials 18 Aug 2015 (News)
    However, despite the clear obstacles, the off-road trials have been given the go-ahead to begin later this year, lasting around 18 months, with the Government stating that it “could” lead to road trials.
