  But maybe we should go for something else. Got to be automatic, with a reasonable size engine and boot, but what about a Focus, or a Jazz? Or maybe we should pay a bit more and get a newer car (the Almera was bought when 6 months old). We have a hire car provided, and its a Toyota Prius.

  As I understand they're both based on the VAG B5 chassis and so are both fairly similar cars - the Audi basically having the better badge and perhaps slightly better interior. My problem is I only have a budget of around £12k and want a diesel automatic. First of all, this seems to seriously limit my choice as there are lots of petrol automatics and diesel manuals but not many of both. So that's my first question - why is this? My second question is this.

  My vw golf  (automatic TSI 1.6) is 5 years old with only 18000 miles on the clock.  I took my car for annual servicing and was told that I need to change the cambelt in the car?!  Is this really necessary?  I have only done 18000miles.
