Problem with Vectra / Signum handbrakes? 1 Feb 2008 (Forum)
, which has a dossier of more than a dozen cases, says the problem also affects the Signum model. Signum owner Rhys Davies saw his car roll into a neighbour's BMW and write if off. He said: "Vauxhall needs to acknowledge this problem to ensure it doesn't happen to others." Vauxhall said it was "aware" of the allegations but insisted the handbrakes had been examined by Government car safety watchdogs and passed all tests. -
Small luxury cars? 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
In reality, if Mercedes produced an A-class with a better interior, engines and ride, it would be great. If Subaru produced a smaller, more space efficient Forester with better interior. If BMW produced a more space efficient 1-series. If the MINI had four doors, a better ride and better engines. If Lexus simply produced a 'mini' IS250. Considering the number of retired people coming out of large executive saloons, I would have thought that a manufacturer could clean up a car with the attributes noted above. -
3 kids - what car? 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Both my wife and I are fed up with poor performance, handling, fuel economy of Disco and don't want to go back to an MPV. The Disco has never been off-road despite being quite rural. I was thinking of a 530d BMW or similar but we are back in the situation of two rear seats and a hump. I would much rather have RWD but I can see the arguments over who sits in the middle already :-( Is there a car anywhere that can accommodate three rapidly growing kids in the back, yet still offer decent performance and handling? -
Have cars become far too complicated? 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Yes i'd like the 'new' experience and the less likelihood of things going wrong, but i'm not sure i'd want the hassle that goes with it looking at some models. I've heard about the BMW 'i' drive thingy and similar and think to myself 'no, no, no'. Grumpy old git getting behind the times or average consumer? Will we get to the time where a manufacturer does what the t.v. product makers have done and dumbs everything down so that there aren't a myriad of buttons on a dashboard and if you want to turn the aircon on there's a great big button in front of you that's glaringly obvious.... or will it keep going and get so bad that most people don't have a clue of what three quarters of their car can do? -
B1248(Yorks) Heads up - Accident Blackspot 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
A mobile (unmarked) unit was parked up on Sunday, with what looked remarkably like a large video camera too. I was travelling South, and, it has to be said, was fortunate (along with the BMW en suite to me) that the mobile unit attached to the camera was already engaged having stopped a 4x4 who I had seen earlier driving "vigourously". So good, old fashioned policing still takes place in Yorkshire: I had seen 3 traffic cars visibly parked up on the journey from Sutton bank already that day. -
Second car up to £2500 - suggestions 6 Sep 2007 (Forum)
We've thought about Daewoos, Protons, Kias and Hyundais but they all lack something in appeal for us. We're wondering about options like old Golf GTis, BMW 3 series Subarus, Saabs and the like. We would want to avoid obvious money-pits. I would be interested to see your suggestions. -
Cheap cars 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Its sitting on my drive next to a car that probably loses £53 every day for the three years I'll have it. Are wemad as a nation to spend £30k + on way of getting from a to b ? My BMW goes in the trader next week and I have good deposit for a house in the Algarve. Can't wait to see the expression of my work mates when the boss turns up in a £53 car!! -

Vehicle with category D insurance histor 1 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I was wondering what anybody thinks about this. I have the chance to buy a nearly new BMW motorcycle which has category D insurance history. The definition of category D insurance is; "Category D - Repairable. Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to." -

East European cars 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
In my part of the country (rural Midlands) we have very large numbers of cars driving around on East European plates - mainly Polish, but also Latvian, Estonian etc etc. On Sunday I saw a very nice BMW on Polish plates - only snag was that the windscreen and front side widows were heavily tinted. This is of course illegal under UK law. I have also seen some very rough cars - which would (IMHO) not pass an MoT. -
S-Max Stereo help - Ford 6006 unit 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
(Other than the 'Aux in' which isn't what I'm looking for) The car is a Ford S-Max Titanium and comes with a Ford 6006 6CD unit. In my current BMW I have a Dension Ice Link that lets me use my Ipod connected to the stereo and have full use of the steering wheel controls. That is what I'm looking for - my Ipod controlled by the steering wheel controls and permantely connected to my stereo. -
VW customer service... 22 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Where they are glad for custom? As I am now looking at a new car and although I like the 3.0 litre BMW Z4, I'm wondering whether a Honda S2000 may prove less stressful experience from this point of view? -
Danger of cruise control in heavy rain 17 Feb 2007 (Forum)
DD} From HJ today for those who did not see it. "Driving down the M20 in very wet conditions recently, I hit a large puddle at 70mph. My BMW 325i aquaplaned, then skidded violently. Only luck and the absence of other road users avoided a potentially serious accident. My car has 29,500 miles on the clock and is still on its original tyres, although they are due to be changed soon. -
Ipod through a 3.5mm 'Aux-in' plug 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
In past experience, FM radio links are not really that good. It's a shame because | have a dension hard wired solution in my BMW and it is fantastic, it charges the Ipod, perfect sound quality and the steering wheel controls operate the Ipod. The S-Max does have a 3.5mm Aux in plug that I can link the Ipod to the car through but what is the best way to do this? -
How long should a refurbishment last? 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I got the 17" cross spoke alloy wheels on my 2001Y BMW 530i Touring refurbished 15 1/2 months ago. This was considerably more expensive than I thought it would be because they are "two part" wheels and they have recessed bolts around the rim which had to be removed then reassembled. -
Car advice please - economy AND pace! 11 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've heard the TDi 150 handles far better and has a nicer spec, but it will be a high miles example at my price level. I've also driven an '01 BMW 330D and absolutely loved it, so a manual tourer could be the thing, although it would be high mileage within my budget. The Mondeo tdci seems to tick most of the boxes, but there are a lot of negative reports concerning reliability and inherent faults. -
Handling on 330D auto 16 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Been having problems with the tailend breaking away on the 330D auto in the last few weeks.(registered Dec '54, bought 2nd hand in June this year - as bmw approved with 1600 miles on clock - if it's age is a factor at any point). No occasion has been at high speed or rapid acceleration for the conditions (damp roads at worse).. Once was when I exited a round-a-bout and another when turning right at some lights...both times the rear-end parted company then came back into line. -
Slipstreaming 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
And could I have done anything to stop them if I was a driver just trying to rejoin my queue? I've never seen such blatant disregard for other road-users from the "I'm in a BMW so I can do this" brigade. ---- Life is complex; it has real and imaginary parts. -
Opinions sought 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I know the Accord and Primera are not in the same market sector, but would be all new and shiney. Excluded BMW cos they just don't do it for me I'm afraid. What would YOU do? Please don't suggest a Mondeo/Renault/Vauxhall, been there, done that! I would say I'm open to other suggestions but we'll get bogged down in the relative merits of three cars that aren't even on my list if we're not careful.
