12v socket or smokers' pack, what the difference? 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi Was trying to figure this one out the other night. What's the difference between buying a car new with a 12v socket and having a smokers' pack fitted? I was under the impression that 12v sockets were generally unlit and limited to 10A (as per the cover). Cigarette lighter sockets I thought were generally lit and went to 15A. -

Out of warranty claims with VW - 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Following the recent demise of the Dual Mass Flywheel on my 2002 120K miles Golf Gt Tdi: see this thread http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=9185#post9185 I'm about to embark on the adventure of trying to get some money out of VW to cover the cost of replacing a part I think should not have failed, no matter how old the car is ! Anyone any experiece of trying to get recompense for components beyond warranty, specifically with VW ? -
Engine mounts - general question 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I started to wonder after noticing the Mondeo's exhaust tailpipe "bouncing" quite heavily on startup and also (to a much lesser extent) on tickover. It is also possible to "rock" the engine at the mount around the cambelt cover fore and aft by hand. Car has also become quite "jerky" when on and off the throttle in the lower gears in recent months. Rubber looks okay from what I can see, but is this kind of movement normal? -
Which oil - 1996 1.8 D Endura Fiesta 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi - can anyone clarify which oil I should be using in a 1996 (mark 4) 1.8 diesel Fiesta, with the Endura engine please? It has covered just over 50K miles, which I believe to be genuine. I probably do around 12-14K miles a year, should I be doing 6-month/6K mile changes? I don't have a manual for this car so any advice gratefully received. -
New Seat Leon 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Well it's eventually arrived having ordered it at the end of September when they were launched, and I have to say, I'm over the moon with it. Picked it up yesterday, and already covered over 300 miles in it. 1.9TDI (105bhp) stylance with metalic black paint, bluetooth phone kit and some lovely 17's. http://www.seat.co.uk/generator/su/uk/newLeon/site/main.html Pretty much the same as the black car plastered all over the site above. -
VW Passat (1995) master cylinder 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone know a source please for repair kits for my brake master cylinder? The car has covered only 37000 miles in ten years with fluid changes so a repair kit should do the trick for my mushy brakes. Replacement cylinders that I am offered all have four exit ports whereas mine has only two. -
Sale of goods act - VW Passat 27 May 2005 (Forum)
Going back to my previous post 'Help! Kerb weight VW Passat ' does anybody know if I am covered under the sale of goods act 2003. It turns out the the gloss sales book was wrong (this was the info the dealer looked at when I asked about kerb weights)and the handbook is right. There is a error of 178kgs between the figures which makes is the diff between having to change my car or not. -

Alfa Spark Plug nightmare! 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I visited the Science Museum today. They have an interesting display of old cars and a number of cutaway engines - including the current 2.0 16v 4cyl and 3.0 24 V6 units. My question is HOW on earth do you change the spark plugs - they appear to be burried at least 6" below the rocker cover. -
Electric failure (temporary) Merc 11 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have 1998 C class Mercedes estate 1800, auto, which is great - except that while my wife was driving in France there was sudden electric failure covering windscreen cleaner, turn flashers, and door s were unlocked. A friend with an E class said a similar thing happened to him. With my own car it was the second time it has happened - but without any attention all is now ok.... any ideas or has anyone else the same problem? -

Warranties 3 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I haven't taken that up - are there any recommendations of third party 'warranty' products like this to give me reasonable cover for less than this, or am I being a cheapskate? Does anyone have good or bad experiences of such products? I've heard horror stories of policies not paying out on repairs if the car misses the service interval by tiny amounts, for example. -
Toyota Aygo - Toyota 10 Year Warranty - Suspension 5 Dec 2024 (Forum)
If I had a 2 year old car with say 20,000 miles on the clock and the suspension failed, I think I could get it repaired under warranty. The car has always been serviced by Toyota to fulfil the terms of their 10 year warranty: https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty/toyota-warranty-ts-and-cs-june-2022.pdf The car is 7 years old and has 47,000 on the clock. -

Nissan Almera 2003 No way to unlock my car when ? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door. But not on this model. There is no hole or cover. In the end I have to undo the back windows using a piece of metal and climb into the window as the door won't even open with a pull handle on the inside.
