  • Honda Jazz - Uncomfortable/Unsafe Driving Positions 20 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I don't know of its the seat or the steerling wheel. I just cannot find a comfortable position and am forced to drive with my left arm only which is unsafe. I don't have the problem when I was driving other makes (Peugeot/Citroen/Volvo). Its just seems to be with MY car (which was originally my ex-wife's car).
  • Driving standards following lockdown 14 Apr 2021 (Forum)
This isn't your typical "all the drivers around me are m****s" thread.  Or rather, I'm the m****. After hardly driving for a year, I'm very aware that I need to concentrate more on my driving as I restart.  As an example, I'd forgotten how to engage the cruise control.  Fortunately, it only took a few seconds to remember - and it set me thinking - I hadn't used it for over a year.

  • Hands free + infotainment - distracting/dangerous 17 May 2017 (Forum)
Perhaps some can drive, talk and use a b****y infotainment system, some can't. Both IS and use of mobile phone must be questionable while driving. Maybe all drivers have to retake their driving test to be allowed to use such devices.
  • Mitsubishi Colt, 2007 5 dr, CZ2, 1.5 Di-D - Loud noise whilst driving 5 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I have a Mitsubishi Colt 2007 semi automatic that has developed a loud whurring/whining noise whilst driving. It starts more or less as soon as you begin to drive, gets louder when accelerating and quieter when decelerating. It's loudest around 40/45mph then gets drowned out by the engine noise itself around 60/65mph.
  • DVLA : Altered Awareness / Fitness to drive 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have recently had what seems to be a minor cardiac event. The consultant dealing with the case has banned me from driving for six months.  I did not lose consciousness during the event but was only breathless / sweaty for around fifteen minutes minutes.  I was driving at the time and pulled safely into a layby.

  • Do 4x4s Alter Cognitive Behaviour ? 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
No I dont care a bit if they wrap themselves around a lamp post, but its a different story if they take someone out with their huge hunk of metal by driving like this. Even with 4WD, there is no way on standard tyres that it can have been kosher driving according to the conditions, so I must conclude that their thought processes had been altered in some way by the vehicles they were driving ?
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 96 1.2 Can I drive with missing spark plugs? 10 May 2009 (Forum)
I don't want to pay to get the plugs drilled out because I'm getting the car scrapped as part of the scrappage deal. But the dealer I'm doing this with says I have be able to drive into the scrap yard. Is it possible to start/drive the car with two spark plugs missing? What about 3 plugs missing? It doesn't need to drive well! Any advice appreciated
  • Driving is so boring, isn't it? 14 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Do you get bored whilst driving? Why? A road safety research team at Newcastle University, headed by myself, is carrying out a research study into the nature of driver boredom. We are interested in your feelings about driving and the way you behave whilst driving as well as the way you are in life in general.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9TD Clonking noise maybe drive shaft 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Peugeot 306 TD 1.9 Hi all I was driving along at 50 (motorway roadworks)and it started to shake through the steering randomly I then got off on to a side road and turned the car to the right and got a clonking on full lock so I thought it was the drive shaft I bought a second hand one from a scrapy put it back together and it is still doing it I checked the wheel bearing for play I even got the car off the ground and tried it with the engine runnig and in gear there was no noise I am right in thinking it's the drive shaft and only makes the noise when under load any help would be great .

  • Improved driving standards - pah! 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Recent figures have indicated that annual road deaths in the UK have gone down - and put alongside the general increase in miles driven - the conclusion was that driving standards must have been raised. Was anyone else on here driving down the A1 in the Stamford/Peterborough area between about 6 and 6.30 yesterday evening? The heavens opened, the rain was torrential and the road was like a river.
  • Ugly, ugly, UGLY drive way! 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Sort of a driving thread. Was walking to visit my good old mum the other day. On route I saw the most ugly, ugly UGLY drive way. Basically, you have a bog standard red brick 1930's end of terrace house with a frontage of no more than a Mondeo's depth.
  • Driving down risk in the community. 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
These vehicles are normally driven very well. However the best bit is that written in large white letters on the rear bumper were the words "Driving down risk in the community"! Pity he doesn't adopt the same approach to his driving. -- \"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do\"
  • Driving - Naples + Sorrento area 22 May 2004 (Forum)
If you hire a car you aren't going to get the benefit of viewing the scenery, if you are driving, and I don't rate your chances of not paying the XS on your CDW, on a week's hire. The trains, ferries and local buses provide a very keenly priced and relaxing alternative to self-drive.
  • Am I Victor Meldrew? 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My neighbour has recently started parking about 6 inches to a foot on my drive which is connected to his drive. This is so he has enough room to park his other car on his drive without having to move the first out of the way. I can still get both of my cars on my drive but have to park them closer together than I would like to, making it a bit more difficult to fully open the doors.
  • Learning to drive in other countries 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I just remembered a conversation with relatives from NZ at the weekend. Their 16 yo is learning to drive (or is he 15? Can't remember). Anywya, he can legally have passed his test and be driving at 16. However, there were some rules for the first year after the test which I thought were an excellent idea: No passengers (though what's the use in paying all that miney for lessons if they can't repay you by taking you down the pub???)
  • Test Drives 11 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I set off up the M11 and was initailly impressed - quiet and smooth - but after about an hour I started to get back ache, after 90 minutes I was so uncomfortable I had to stop. For this reason I'm very keen to get a decent 2 hour test drive before commiting myself, but both Ford and VW are only willing to offer me a glorified spin round the block. Has anyone got any advice about how to secure a longer test drive, or failing that, any views on which of the 2 cars is more comfortable for long drives.
  • Buying a left hand drive car over here to drive ov 28 Mar 2001 (Forum)
We are about to move to France and I will be looking to buy a couple of local cars to replace our UK ones. However, it occured to me that it might be worthwhile to buy a used left-hand drive car in the UK as I understand they tend to be much cheaper. We could then import them into France. I have a feeling there must be thousands of people who, moving from the continent, end up having to sell their cars cheaply over here.
