Volvo S80 Headlamps 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I also find I get a warning bong bong noise when I turn on the ignition. I'd appreciate hearing from any other S80 owners on how best to run the car headlamp wise Thanks in advance -
Honda Civic 1.6LSi Non VTEC 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I have recently purchased a V reg Civic AeroDeck (Estate) and am considering having it converted to run on LPG I would like to know if anyone has had their Civic converted to run on LPG. Are Honda engines OK for Conversion?? Any Horror Stories relating to Honda Engines and LPG. I changed from a 1.6RT Renault Scenic that had an old Gas conversion on it (Non Injection type)and had problems that were quite costly. -
Tyre Life - Budget or branded 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I have a 'V' reg 1700cc diesel corsa (bought last September), which is used as a cheap to run motor. It now needs a pair of front tyres. Now, ordinarily I would go to my local fitter & buy the cheapest they have, but I am wondering if this is false economy in the long run? What us the general concensus of opinion regarding tyre life of budget tyres to branded? -

Cavalier hesitation 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My Cavalier 1.6 petrol 78,000 miles, has started to hesitate when accelerating under load especially when going uphill. It acts as if it is misfiring. It also very occasionally runs on when cold, when accelerator pedal is released. Apart from thse problems it runs very well. Plugs, plug leads and distributor have been checked. It never gives any trouble starting. It has been suggested that I replace the sensor which fits into the back of the inlet manifold. -
Kia Picanto - do you have one? 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
We've had a decent test drive and we're very impressed. As the car will be shared with SWMBO I'll be using it every now and again for a 125 mile each way run that is mainly motorways and dual carriageways. I'd appreciate real life feedback anyone can give me on their experiences particularly on fuel economy, how it drives on long runs, does it keep up at motorway speeds, comfort and if you've had any problems (hopefully not). -
Metro exhaust blowing 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Call me stupid if you will but I have a question that is probably soo darn obvious but Wifes 1993 Metro (cue laughter), runs fine when rolling along, when stationary (ery?) engine runs a bit rough, has been known to cut out, have just noticed small holes appeared in silencer from corrosion. Would I be correct in thinking this could be the cause of the problem, has been fine until past few days and have coincedentaly noticed exhaust blowing? -
Terrano 2 tyre wear 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Anyone out there running a Nissan Terrano 2 built within the last couple of years? Do these cars still leave the factory with the front wheel geometry mis-set, needing re-alignment by the dealer to prevent horrendous and uneven front tyre wear? -
94 Supra TT a good buy? 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Am I barking mad even considering such a car I really dont want to end up with a money pit. At present Im running a yaris for running to work and an 1100 virago for weekend blasts. The Supra is for sale at £8k which I think is a bit ott the only mods are an induction kit and performance exhaust. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks, Mark -
Jeep cherokee with U/S lpg conversion 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hello all, anybody got the knowledge on LPG conversions? Its a Millenium system about 3 years old. It will run the car ok for a few miles then almost shuts off. ( Car will just idle only) Car runs ok on petrol. Diagnostic inconclusive. Ive re-earthed the solenoids, renewed the stepping motor and substituted a new solenoid for each of the 3 in turn. -
Car for student 7 Jul 2004 (Forum)
She was staggered at the potential cost of insurance. I suggested a Fiesta, Micra or Nova because of relatively cheap running costs but there is the problem of street cred! Such vehicles do not provide the right image. She may eventually see sense when confronted with the running costs of older Clio's, 206's etc. but I would be grateful for any other suggestions. -
Engine rotation - which way? 26 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I think I have worked it out in my mind - is it the camshaft operating the valves in the right sequence that means the engine cannot run backwards? So if say on a very simple engine the inlet and exhaust manifolds were reversed, and the fuel fed in the 'exhaust', would it run the other way round? -
Golf2 doesnt like wet weather 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My Golf Mk2,Driver 1.6,Greg-is getting harder to start from cold in wet weather. It splutters, backfires, and sometimes the battery go`s flat from the turning over.Ive tried spraying wd4o on the leads, coil and distributor, which sometimes makes a difference, but I usually have to hold the starter on with throttle right down;when it eventually starts,it splutters for a few miles before running smoothly. It starts and runs fine in dry weather,so,any ideas what the problem is?Leads?Coil? Windscreen creaks and cracks. Audi A4. 18 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I run a 1997 Audi A4 1.9 TDI.It starts first turn, runs brilliantly with plenty of poke and economy. However on starting from cold and driving a few miles as soon as the heater starts blowing warm air onto the windscreen a problem ensues. When going round a bend the windscreen gives sharp cracking noises. These noises sound almost like a stone hitting your screen at speed.Once the car is warm though all is quiet again.Has anyone any idea about the cause or a possible cure? -
Rover 600 Turbo Diesel Ecu 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking that all functions of a pump are now controlled by an Ecu, and any faults are only repairable by someone with the software/reader etc to read the faults. My Rover 600 Diesel runs beatifully most of the time but just recently has started to almost stall on roundabouts etc and the yellow engine warning light comes on., then it will pick up again and run for a day or so without occyuring again... -
Motorway Maintenance 11 May 2003 (Forum)
What exactly are the Health & Safety Rules for workers on Motorways? I regularly travel the M8 Glasgow to Edinburgh and see workers having to run from the centre island to the waiting lorry on the hardshoulder dragging the big "Roadworks 800yds signs" etc. Are they been forced to cut corners or is this the accepted method of working? I know I wouldn't like to try running across a motorway alone, never mind dragging one of these signs behind me! -
New Mondeo cooling fan 19 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Latest problem on my new shape Mondeo - erratic operation of the radiator cooling fan. It starts running whenever the car is started up (even after being stood overnight or for a couple of days) It then (presumably) cuts out somewhere along the journey as it is generally not running by the time I reach my destination. -
diesel engines annoy swmbo 29 Jan 2003 (Forum)
swmbo is annoyed by the lads calling at the plumbers merchants next door to us who pull onto the forecourt and leave their engines running while they nip in for a box of elbows/fag/brew etc. In the morning this can be a bit irritating as two or three vans all arrive together . Why don`t they switch off their engines ? I suspect it`s a throwback to when diesels were hard to start so the easy option was to leave them running but todays refined diesel engines should be more reliable , so why do they still do it ? -

Cut out when starting 29 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Dear all, Hope you all had a great Christmas. There is a running problem with my engine. When starting from cold, it starts straight away with no throttle but would cut-off straight away. I have to blip the throttle to keep it running for a few seconds then it idles at 1200rpm.
