Volkswagen Passat - How Can I tell they changed the brake fluid? 8 Oct 2011 (Forum)
They carried out the three year service as part of the purchase contract. When I studied the service schedule the brake fluid change was ticked not changed! This should have been changed! I contacted the dealer and they said that they had not changed it because it had been changed at a pervious service, a quick check of the service schedule proved this not to be true. -

How can I clean brake dust from my Volvo V70's wheels? 3 Jun 2010 (Ask HJ)

Ford Escort 1.6 16V 1998 - Whirring noise on acceleration 21 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It is silent on idle but starts once you reach about 10 mile ph and gets louder the faster you go. On braking the back brakes sound like they are grating (Brake shoes replaced approx 9 mths ago) about 2 months after they were fitted they were grating so they were taken off and found there to be quite a lot of dust gathered so cleaned and replaced. -
Garage fraud advice 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I had recently had them done so I questioned them concerning this and they went on and passed the test but told me "they may need replacing soon" I knew this was a lie but became very suspicious when my brakes started screaming the moment I left the garage. I suspected they may have changed one of the pads on the rear side for a worn one. I am not a mechanic so waited until I could afford to have them replaced elsewhere and sure enough, the rear left brake pad was completely worn while the other pad was fine. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Brakes : MOT vs AA inspection 17 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The car was needed somewhat urgently due to family circumstances, so for piece of mind I booked a AA inspection. A few minor things came up, along with the more disturbing "those front brakes are an MOT failure mate". My first course of action was to contact the garage with a view to them arranging and paying for the cost of the parts and labour. Long story short and after a barrage of abuse from said trader (who would appear to be bipolar, due to his change in viewpoint regarding customer service!) -
Mk1 Punto new front brake pad binding 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
My son recently had the front brake pads and discs replaced at a fast fit operation as the pads were on their way out. Now the new front offside pads keep binding sporadically after the car has been driven a couple of miles as shown by the wheel heating up and a burning smell. -
Servo/M Cylinder 1995 Audi A6 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I then took it for a test run and everything appeared normal however after a few miles the brakes began to bind on. I think it was all brakes not just one set. I have removed the master cylinder and again can find nothing obviously wrong. Before spending several hundred pounds on replacing the master cylinder and or servo and possibly the ABS pump I wonder if anyone has heard of similar symptoms. -
Voiding warranty - can they do this? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The car still has 6 months warranty, but the dealer wants to charge nearly £600 to the job where as I can source the parts myself for less than £200 and get them fitted for no more than an extra £100. Can the dealer/renault leagally void a warranty in this way? I can understand if they said the brakes were no longer covered. Surely, brakes, as a consumable should be exempt and I should be able to get them changed where and when I require it? On this line getting tyres changed would also void a warranty?! -
Renault Trafic Rear Brakes and MOT 19 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I am really desperate because I need this van to move materials and tools away from my property I have nearly finished and into my garage. The previous MOT has expired. The rear brakes and the handbrake have failed the test but the garage I used cannot find any evidence of air, leaks or anything like that. The linings are fairly new but should have been given plenty of time to bed in. -
Chevrolet Orlando - ABS warning light coming on when turning 26 Feb 2025 (Forum)
It happens more when turning the steering wheel. To add some more info to this, sometimes once its activated i can feel the brake pedal lower a bit more ( if braking) and make a slight grinding sound Seems strange it only started happening once the new tyre had been fitted by the tyre fitters and was obviously not fitted correctly as it lost air soon after. -
Ford focus style (100) 1.6 petrol year 1999 - FORD FOCUS PARKING HANDBRAKE 14 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I am informed by one self employed mechanic ( that because the car hand brake only just holds when the handbrake is fully pulled up to the last link, that the car rear brake shoes would need replacing. How can I check the shoes to confirm this and how much should I be looking at in total to replace the vehicles rear shoes and front wheel pads if they need replacing ? -

Toyota Auris - Squeaky noise from one rear wheel 10 Dec 2015 (Forum)
It comes and goes but can be quite piercing. On a right hand bend I don't hear it, and I don't hear it when the brakes are applied. It's disc brakes all round I was thinking a worn disc, but I don't know. Any ideas welcome? Many thanks -
Saab 93 Vector - Advice needed 1 May 2015 (Forum)
I have a 2006 Saab 92 2.0 Vector and has been on my drive for the last 3 months with the front tires just about flat, i managed to pump them up but one of them has a flat spot, after driving it for about 10 miles the flat spot noise seems to have subsided, the only issue i have now is that when i apply the brake i get the same kind of noise as the flat spot (front left n/s brake) Any ideas as to why it could be? Regards -
