  Reading the write ups the Nissan seems to have edge over the L200 when looking at build quality etc.... I'm off this afternoon to view a 2001 plate D22 with 80K on the clock. the car is an import (it was imported from new by the current owner) so only one owner from new. It was a 'correct' import as Nissan honoured the Warrenty and have given it the full service history.. I have never brought an imported car and was hoping (long shot) that some one might have experience with the Nissan?

  _ I have a clean licence and am over 50. As far as I could see, nothing in the paperwork told me the car was a so called 'import' and nothing was noticeable on the car itself -nothing in japanese etc!! Have I missed something and how is one supposed to know a car is an 'import' before you buy? Who would be the best insurers for so called 'Imports'?

  Has anyone heard of New Car Import Services Ltd. base in Billingshurst, W Sussex or bought an import through them? Have had a good quote for Import of BMW Compact and pay in sterling with 3 year warranty but they want balance 2 weeks before delivery and it is payable direct to them (as is deposit but I can use credit card cheque and receive protection for this).

  Could I have some opinions please on what the current trade view is on the value of used imports - are UK spec imported cars worth less than UK supplied ones? I suspect the answer could be they will give you less in part exchange if your selling but charge the same if your buying! Thanks

  How can you tell if a car is an imprt and has the balance of it's manufacturers warranty remaining? Will the first registered owner be the importing company or a non-UK address, or is it not that simple? Ta!

  How can you tell if a car is an import? I've seen the thread about a BMW bought from a dealer at a great price, but there was no conclusion as to how to identify if it was an import. My '03' Merc was bought from a dealer but was registered by a (UK based) fleet company.

  Years ago there was heavy media coverage of how private buyers can buy a new car from abroad and import it saving thousands in the process. Do people still import cars nowadays or do they find that some garages/car supermarkets offer similar deals? The reason I ask is a friend wants to import a car and taking into account all the costs, duty and taxes worked it out at £825 quid to get it from the Japanese dealership over to the UK, conversion work (minimal) and on the road including MOT (provided it has no failures).

  On the HJ website 'Car by Car breakdown' section for the Mitsubishi Galant , he writes: "Mix of officially imported and grey imported VR4s. Only pay grey price for a grey". How can you tell a grey import if you are buying a second hand Galant and do grey imports create any problems for owners? Also, has anyone any experience of these vehicles?
