"Speed cameras may cause crashes" - discuss... 27 Jun 2018 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/legal-motoring-advice/2018-06/inventor-threatened-with-jail-for-inflatable-speed-camera/ Note the comment in the first paragraph that a (fake) camera "causing danger to other road users" could lead to a seven year jail sentence. I can't help wondering, by this logic, how many real speed cameras may equally have "caused" a crash; not to mention the "real/fake" cameras of year gone by (the ones that local auhorities couldn't afford to load with film, meaning that several fake cameras were deliberately dotted around the country.) -
speed cameras 20 Aug 2010 (Forum)
In my area of Bournemouth/Christchurch practically every camera is at a spot which has not had serious accidents if any. I tackled my local camera Stasi and they absolutely refused to answer my question of how many deaths had happened at certain camera locations. -
Hiding cameras 11 Dec 2001 (Forum)
If the Government is going to make cameras more visible and move them away from behind bridges and so on, how does it propose to deal with the cameras behind the variable speed gantries on the M25 etc. Discuss. -
Review: Anker Roav dash camera 12 Mar 2018 (Forum)
"One of the most useful features is the camera's parking, which switched the camera on the moment the built-in G sensor detects an impact" Is there a typo here ? I just cannot understand this sentence at all. -

Average speed cameras are to be installed in Camden, North London to enforce 20mph speed limits. Is this the first time we have seen average speed cameras in the London area? -
Citreon - speed sensor or camera? 14 May 2023 (Forum)
Was on the A85 earlier, this was near and not sure whether you can even see this but it looks like a pole with a solar panel and then the 30mph speed limit with the camera icon at the bottom. Is this a speed sensor or a camera - https://www.google.com/maps/@56.328182,-4.3262804,3a,75y,166.85h,90.51t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sSso2oJ7sBmFDYKNWfAEZSQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Also on the A84 and A82 route in general from Sterling to Glencoe via Tyndrum I did not see many cameras along route, apart from the SPECS cameras (I think). -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 18 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The radio 4 programme 'more or less' is covering speed cameras at 3pm. They are going to be discussing regression to the mean and testing whether the apparent reduction in accidents at camera sites is regression to the mean or a measurable actual effect. Siting cameras in places that are safe to exceed the speed limit would lead to people naturally speeding in other places a)to avoid detection and b) because they think cameras are at accident blackspots. -
BMW 3 Series - red light cameras 30 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Also if you did trigger the camera, would you visually see a flash on the camera, similar to the speed cameras? -
peugot expert - speed camera distance, but not the usual.... 5 Nov 2015 (Forum)
i was clocked doing 41, the 30 sign is on a long slow bend just before a village, the mobile camera van in the middle of the bend. is or can the camera's in the van be set to zap you and take the picture at a set distance ? its difficult to put it correctly, the camera van was about 30 meters inside the 30 zone looking to oncoming traffic coming from the 60 zone, i presume that the camera can only snap you at the distance of the 30 sign, ie. 30meters from camera, cos until i pass that sign i'm in a 60 zone doing the legal speed. -
Camera on lamppost 19 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Noticed today on the main road whilst driving home that a camera has been installed on one of the lampposts pointing towards a strip of road where speeding is problem. No other indication of what the camera’s for. Any ideas what it might be doing? -

I was recently camera flashed from a Gatso camera from the opposite side of the road (it was not a Truvelo). To be fair it was a 'fair cop', but wondered if I was likely to hear anything and if anyone had a similar experoence. -

Pedestrian crosing camera 10 May 2009 (Forum)
They changed to red as my A pillar drew level. There was no flash but there were small black, hooded cameras mounted high over the crossing and angled sharply down to it, possibly with smaller, unhooded cameras pointed up and down the road (difficult to say owing to foliage of surrounding trees). What is the prurpose of these cameras? -

Smart motorway speed cameras 27 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I believe that a 10% over leeway is allowed when speed is checked by the usual speed cameras. Thus a 50mph limit is in fact 55. Is this still the case when the cameras on smart motorways are used? Does anyone know for certain? -
SPEC cameras J29 to 31 on M5 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Happy (fine-free) motoring. "The new yellow cameras being installed between J29 and J31 on the M5 are not traffic cameras but are SPEC average speed cameras. The first (and subsequent) cameras read your number plate and if you arrive at the next camera too quickly it is £60 and 3 points. -
Speed Cameras: The Jury's coming back in! 17 Apr 2011 (Forum)
We have been told that "the war against the motorist is over". We have been told that whole areas are having their speed cameras removed. Over the next year or 2, we are surely going to get lots of information about accident rates before and after the presence of speed cameras. What do we predict will happen? I don't mean just to accident rates; how will the advocates of speed cameras, who cited speed cameras as a means of reducing accidents, adjust their position (assuming they're prooved wrong of course!). -
Average Speed Camera Fines 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Has anyone on this forum EVER received a fine for exceeding the average speed limit imposed with cameras. Because it appears more and more vehicles are being driven far faster than the speed limits set, even with the threat of cameras.
