Completely agree with you.
There have been large sections of the M6 for months & months with roadworks & variable speed cameras. Most people, not all but most, stick to the reduced limits or thereabouts.
On the other hand there has been a section of the M62 which has had roadworks for a while with NO cameras & the only person driving at or near the limit is me.
so they deter rather than acting as a prosecution device
All that speed cameras do is catch those breaking the legal speed limits; that they do it so efficiently (& I'm speaking as one caught out by them) is the reason people dislike them. The prime objective is to deter law breaking & if this is self funding, so much the better
