  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 2007 Hatchback - boot rattle!! 4 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hope I've put this in right place new to this Bought an 07 Mondeo edge hatchback in Feb 08 (love mondeos) a few weeks after getting it a persistant rattle developed from the boot after many miles of sitting in the boot/ back seat (whilst partner drove) found that if I pushed up on boot lid behind nearside rear seat the rattle stopped so took car to dealer who sent a technician for a drive with me who confirmed that was the point of rattle they greased the damper mounts and sent me on my way, unfortunately the rattle remained so back it went after a short arguement about trim not being covered under warrenty if car a year old they agreed to change the damper this was done and within 5 miles of the dealer the rattle was back, after checking my gap insurance to confirm the write off value I stripped the line out of the boot most os the side lining and part of the roof desperately searching for a loose cable / bolt spanner that had been left in somewhere to no avail.
  • Emperors new clothes? 16 Jun 2006 (Forum)
And the seat gave me backache after an hour - I might blame this on it being poverty spec (I read ghostrider's view about LX seats a couple of weeks back). But if that's the best the opposition have to offer, I'd keep my Megane thanks. Yes I want a car that's fun to drive but this seems to come with too many compromises to make it a car you'd want to spend any serious time at the wheel in. So it really makes me wonder what really would be the best small or medium diesel hatch for me (£12k budget, 1-2 years old), that's quick enough, comfy, plenty of toys, and decent handling.
  • Peugeot 205 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
SWMBO was using her Toyota and the VW is in the barn on axle stands having some new brake disks fitted. I had no choice but to use the old 205. I was amazed at how good these old 205's still are. By modern standards the 1.8 engine is modest in power output, there being no turbo on this model. But it purred along very comfortably at or near the legal limit.
  • Mondeo's 1st MOT 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I guess very few cars fail there 1st MOT unless of course the driver fails to notice an illegal tyre or similar, nevertheless I was a pleased as punch today when my Mondeo Ghia X TDCi passed. Incidentally it is not 3 years old until next month though I had the MOT post dated to the anniversary of the first registration by taking the reg doc with me to the MOT centre.
  • Seat Ibiza TDi 130 28 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It's built on a VAG chassis with VAG running gear and best of all the TDi comes with the 130 PD engine. I can get a 6 month old one for the same price as a 18 month old golf with less miles, and it's loads quicker. I know it's smaller, but thats not so much of a problem. It all seems almost too good to be true, so what I want to know, is it ?
  • n reg fiesta diesel starting nightmare 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It did start a few times initially but then died- turning fine but again no smoke at exhaust and unable to rev. I even put the old filter back on - it started but then died within about 20 seconds. No smoke from exhaust since. Im hoping a friend is coming up tomorrow as i am clueless with cars- any pointers- i have searched through the old threads on here already by the way.
  • Help - Indecision! 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
MR2, but I'd be laughed at by my S2000 wielding mates. Celica, but it's not fast enough for what it is supposed to be. Now I'm thinking 2-3 year old BMW 323i or 328i from Great Trade Centre - still in warranty so less worry about something going wrong(?) or 3-4 year old from BMW Approved. But then I started thinking about what it might be worth in 3 years and figured £7,000 - £8,000 compared to the Type-R which might retain £10,000.
  • Mazda 3 - 3x faults on car bought 3 months ago 11 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Wonder if anyone has any views? Bought 3 months ago from main dealer. Car is 3 years old and has extended warranty. Week after purchase engine management light came on - went back and was fixed.  Month later belt went xar not driveable and was towed to dealer and fixed.
  • any - VAG 1.5 TSi engine issues...sorry! 27 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Sorry to drag this up again, I know it's been done to death and I know the concensus on here is "avoid!" However, many of the cars that in an ideal world meet our requirements for next car are powered by that engine with the well-known hesitation issues from cold and at low revs. What I was wondering is: Is this a fault that can develop or, if you buy a vehicle say 2 years old and 20K on the clock and do a thorough test drive under those conditions and the car does not show signs of that problem, can it still develop or is it an issue that is either there or isn't from new?
  • Genesis 25 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Apologies for the rum induced nostalgia moment, but what was the car which instigated your lifelong interest in cars? For me, after a childhood of dozing in the back of a series of Volvo 340’s my dad suddenly went a bit mad and turned up one night in a 1985 C plate (2 years old at the time) Saab 900 16v Turbo 4dr in metallic burgundy with tan interior and all of 175bhp which was a huge number for 1988.

Vans reach historic highs, up to 4.6m, but declines recorded in truck, bus and coach numbers.
  • Peugeout 306 HDI meridian Diesel 1999 model - Meaning of warning light on dashboard 21 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Hello. Can anyone please help me decipher a symbol which appeared on my dashboard this morning? As my car is so old, I cant find it online. (The manual disappeared and I cant find it in my Haynes manual).  Its an orange light. The symbol is a circle with a partial circle to the right and left outside the circle.
  • Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Partner Wants a Used Range Rover Evoque ... 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Having read bits and bobs about them I am slightly worried she may not have anticipated all of the potential costs.    The service cost is high compared to any car either of us have owned (£400 - £700) and she currently drives a 1 litre small petrol car so I imagine the fuel costs will be at least double. What other costs are likely to be incurred if the car is 5 years old?
  • Private plate query 16 Apr 2020 (Forum)
, I understand I can’t drive it on my old number as it’s done immediately ( online) , yes the car I’m buying has been registered so I could drive that home and put the plate on later, just not sure about my current car
  • New, for how long? 3 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I tend to keep my cars for a long time, the current one for 6 years and it’s now 12 years old.I could afford to buy a modest 3 year old replacement from savings but feel reluctant to splash the cash. My question I guess is how long does the new (or newer) car feeling last you before buyer remorse hits?
  • Renault Scenic 1 1.6 16v 2002 plate. - loss of power, wont start and back pressure and poping noises 20 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Car started to lose power on way home, it was as if it was losing power 1 cylinder at a time. got home, found. the plastic inlet manifold was loose. fitted new seals. tried starting car it eventually started but running very roughly and would not tick over, as though lacking power. during the short time running it was making poping noises and slight bangs thru the air cleaner as was obvious back pressure. it sounds like what I would call a timing issue on an old car.

  • BMW X3 - BMW X3 3.0 MSport 2011 vs 2015 Honda CRV Dtec EX 19 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The BMW seems to hold value better but is obviously an older car. We intend to keep the car for at 5-10 years.
  • Ford C Max 1.6 petrol - HAS the cambelt been changed? 18 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a cheap used car and have come across the above vehicle, which seems promising. The private seller (who sounds like an 'old boy'!) swears he has had the cambelt and waterpump changed a year ago but has lost the related paperwork and also lost touch with the mobile mechanic who did the work!
