  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2004 2.0 Petrol Review 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Having purchased a 2004 2.0 Petrol C5 VTR 2 months here are my comments. Fuel economy commute now around 31/32 Fuel economy long journeys 35-36 Even hit 36.5 on long journey to Wales this weekend and this was with some mixed driving too. 2000 Miles of motorring so far has been faultless.
  • Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - 2004 v6 3.0CDTi loss of power and smoking 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
i have a 54 signum v6 3.0cdti and since september last year the car loses power and smokes terribly, it has been back to vauxhall 4 times and they do not know what is wrong with it (there is no warning lights ) at first it went back under warranty after i had to remove the wrong fuel filter (purflux filter) and fit a genuine vauxhall filter, then they tried to repair it no good ..... went back in and they fit a new fuel filter housing unit under warranty ..... no good same problem ... then they said the original filter could have caused some damage and vauxhall will now not support any future work, the car is now out of warranty, i have took the car to several garages and no one knows what the problem is .... any body suffered the same problem and cured it ??????
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1800 Endura Failure to start 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
After investigation I discovered that nothing is coming out of the injection pump. I suspect the fuel cut-off solenoid is at fault, but there are three electrical devices on this pump - one on top, one (almost impossible to get at) at the back, and one which clicks when ignition is energised, on the side of the pump, i.e. towards front of vehicle.

  • Warm start problem - Renault Megane 1.6e 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
They claim that unlike during the first visit the diagnostic tool did not show any error codes. They also tried to run it with fuel relay bypassed but it did not make any difference. Suggested to go to a Renault garage but the nearest is 15 miles away and my experience with them is that they are expensive and not very reliable.
  • Clever Honda Engines 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
They have also developed the next stage of i-VTEC technology with the development of the Advanced VTEC engine, which provides high performance along with outstanding fuel economy and lower emissions. The new engine combines continuously variable valve lift and timing control with the continuously variable phase control of VTC (Variable Timing Control) to achieve a world-leading level of performance and a 13% improvement in fuel efficiency (in comparison to their 2.4 i-VTEC).
  • VW Polo alarming diesel knock 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It used to start after 1 or 2 seconds but now takes a couple of 5-6 secs + fully depressed accelerator, I've put new heater coils in, new timing belt and tensioner, checked the timing multiple times also tried with advanced and retarded levels, checked fuel supply to injectors, tested cylinder compression which are Nos1 - 20bar nos2 - 23bar nos3 - 21bar nos4 - 17bar. Thing is when it does go it sounds fine, pulls well and there is neither strange noises nor smoke (black, white or blue). + if on starting the stop lever, found on the top of the pump, is activated then without fuel supply the engine turns as it should without the alarming knocking sounds.
  • Lease options 1 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I currently claim mileage at 40p/mile and can do so for up to 10000 mile p/a I understand. My car costs me under 10p/mile even at today's fuel costs so the additional 30p means I am in profit even allowing for wear and tear, servicing and depreciation. However perhaps there is another way, lets say that whatever car I drive it would cost 10p/mile in fuel therefore the 30p mile over 10k p/a will cost the company £3000 which is £250/month with which we could perhaps take out a 3 year 20k/year fully maintained lease or contract hire plan.
  • Am I asking the Impossible 17 Oct 2005 (Forum)

  • Another 306 diesel problem 3 Jun 2005 (Forum)
It has the keypad immobiliser and I have swapped the diesel pumps over so that I am using the original one to avoid problems with the code that is stored. The problem is that there is no fuel getting past the stop solenoid. The pump is primed, there is diesel entering the pump and leaving the pump via the return to the tank, but none going to the injectors. When I tap in the immobiliser code, you can here the solenoid open, and when you turn off the ignition and wait 30 secs you can feel it close again, but it just wont give me fuel!
  • Mercedes W124 advice welcome 18 May 2005 (Forum)
It has had one owner, 78k warranted miles, auto/air con/leather and in all round good clean and sound condition. Just a hint of a fuel leak form the top of the fuel filter, for which it is going in to my local, trusted garage at the end of the week. After a weekend of polishing and cleaning it looks very presentable, just a couple of supermarket dings for dentmaster or whoever to sort.
  • Mk 3 Astra - Engine Cuts Out When Idling 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Although they have looked at it on two or three occasions, the fault has not occurred when it's been with them. They have tried blowing out fuel line and cleaning the relay. I would really appreciate any suggestions as to what to try for the best. I'm not even sure if it is more likely to be a fuel or electrical problem? Thanks very much Peter
  • Peugeot 306 d turbo engine problem 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
when im driving the car hard (3500 rpm) or over 80 on the motorway occasionally there is a loud diesel clatter and the engine looses power for a second or so and there is a MASSIVE puff of black/blue smoke visible in the rear view mirror. it isnt using any oil or water and there isnt any water in the oil or vice versa, fuel consumption seems no diferent from usual other than that it starts and runs just fine no rattles or smoke (other than what i mentioned above). only that it just doesnt seemd to GO like it used to but im not sure whether thats just me im thinking its maybe a fueling problem, ie kankered pump, worn/dribbling injectors or injection timing, or maybe it somthing more serious please help, im fed up of driving slow and not being able to put my foot down on the motorway for fear its going to self destruct
  • More TV products and their claims 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Double thread really - first one is to vent my spleen, second is a question for more mechanically minded readers. One shopping channel wound me up again this weekend with their claims about fuel magnets and charged £25 for the privilege of owning a lump of iron which does nothing for your car! The presenter asked the 'salesman' why if the product could save you 10-30% on your fuel costs they aren't fitted as standard.
  • Car for huge mileage? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am now thinking about getting a diesel car. I am not all that bothered about prestige etc. and I think that fuel economy will be my primary concern. My current thoughts are a Citroen C2 1.4 HDI, which has massive fuel economy, but I'm not so keen - a bit of a kids car perhaps? how refined would it be on the motorway, I'm not overly keen on being deafened by the engine!
  • Volvo 340 cuts out turning right 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I can only think it could be 1) something wrong in petrol tank plumbing (or baffle?) 2) poor fuel pump performance being exposed in "g" conditions or 3) carburettor problems. I have had the carb off recently and found nothing amiss. Certainly made no difference after I had cleaned and checked everything.
  • Smokey Smokey Smokey '95 Audi A4 TDi 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Sometimes seems to clear, but gets worse particurly when going up hill when at times the car seems to go down on power for a second or two. The car starts ok, has new injectors fitted (yes tried that first), and new fuel oil and air filters. The car has FSH and the engine is smooth enough. My source of diesel is OK. My mechanic says it MIGHT be the fuel pump, but at £600 to replace I would not want to go down this road until sure.
