How long to deliver a new car? 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Your helpful responses suggested that waiting time should be no more than 6 - 8 weeks maximum but should be wary of the Renault factory shut down in August. To back this up, last week I called a local dealer who advised that orders were currently taking around 8 weeks. I've been chasing regularly and during my call today I was advised that the dealer has advised that delivery is estimated for early October which is 15 weeks!!! -
Kerbing damage - a pity really 2 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My mate has a Renault Clio sport and as luck would have it, the above happened on new alloys to him today when I was in the car. It wasn't high speed but we were turning left and tried to squeeze past a car tuning right. -

Seat arosa 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Will end up eeding a full respray though. Car is showing 750 miles on the clock - has one key (are replacment keys are a problem - i.e. Renault master key?). No mechanical damage - airbags ok. Is the face lift model. A quick look at the autotrader website, a similar one with 8000 miles on the clck on sale for £5k (albeit at a dealer). The car has the log book and service book (only pre-inspection been carried out). - Looks like it may have been crashed either by dealer or 1st owner - been standing since. -
Convoluted relationships 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
That's just scratching the surface of one large car company, and then we have the GM empire, VAG, a tie up between Renault and Nissan........ The one I've just read about though that surprised me was that Peugeot and Fiat are sharing a platform for two new cars, as are Peugeot and Toyota for 2005. If you're interested, http://www.psa-peugeot-citroen.com/document/presse_dossier/slides_folz_en1043748040.pdf, which also highlights a new PSA factory being built in Kolin, Czech Republic. -
Bang! 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Question - if rear-hinged doors were outlawed years ago, why are car makers still allowed to fit rear hinged bonnets? If my mother's old car had been a Renault, this would never have happened. Richard Hall http://bangernomics.tripod.com -
Renaul Clio 1.6 RXE (Water getting in) 16 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have a Renault Clio 1.6 RXE 1998 Model. I have had the car since new with no problems until quite recently. The first failure was of the central locking not wanting to lock the doors or activate the alarm; the second failure was of the driver electric window getting stuck in the down position (isn't this always the case - never stuck up!). -

New Car buying tips.... 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Look at the pedigree of the car that you are buying. How have older, previous models fared? For this reason only buy new Renaults, Alfas, Fiats, Peugeots, Rovers if you expect high depreciation or patchy quality. 13. When haggling do not get rude or appear to be more knowledgeable than the salesperson. 14. Do not buy any Renault with an automatic gearbox. 15. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic 1.5 Sport. Uncomfortable. Ideas? 19 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hi all, So I got rid of my Renault grand scenic, sold in part exchange towards my 1.5 sport honda civic (19 plate). This came from a main dealer, 14k miles. Ive done about 1500 miles in it and my back aches so much. I've never had a problem in another car. -
Nissan Qashqai - New Sept 2018 diesel Qashqai with Adblue 30 Dec 2020 (Forum)
To comply with the latest 'real world' emission figures Nissan has added adblue to the popular nissan/renault 1.5 diesel engine however it appears to rush and get this to market it hasn't been fully tested. We took delivery of our new 1.5 on the 11th, was horrified to discover it had adblue fitted due to issues we had with a car that had ADBLUE years earlier vowing to never buy another car with that fitted EVER Well true enough with a matter of 4 days the adblue module failed and the car has been sat in the dealership since. -
How far safety has moved on 14 Jun 2020 (Forum)
The results were appalling. Effectively you were dead at the wheel of the Fiat Croma, Honda Legend, Nissan Maxima, Renault 25 and badly injured in a Volvo 740. You would’ve walked away from the recently launched BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E class but the rest were mangled. It’s an eye opener into how poor cars were structurally before the 1990’s and a big thank you should be directed to the magazine for saving lives at great expense to themselves. -
Best car for London 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
It's an unusual list and only contains 4 that I think I can spec up to a level to be acceptable - the main manufacturers are Mini, Toyota, Renault, Audi/VW. I think with all the stop-start I do in London the time is for automatic, so with that in mind it's down to: MINI Cooper auto media pepper Audi A1 1.0 DSG7 Sport + tech + comfort pack Toyota CHR hybrid Icon (basic) VW polo r line 1.0 dsg/1.4 BlueGT DSG (+opts) I've test driven the CHR in a higher spec but didn't like it on the motorway and thought visibility was poor so it's trailing a bit but I do love the look and reliability. The Polo I drove was the 1.0 with the dsg and that seemed smooth enough so made me question whether I needed the bluegt. -
Skoda - Skoda Citigo 1.0SE or Fabia 1.2SE 7 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hello. Now my Renault Twingo (which has been a totally joyless car to own) is approaching its third birthday I'm looking to chop it in for something new. As I only do 5-6000 miles a year on mainly urban roads with only myself in the car 90% of the time I was looking for something of a similar size but with a bit of a higher spec. -
Car decisions - can't get past the warranty 8 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Have looked at all the usual suspects, Golf, Auris, Astra, Focus, i30, Ceed, Civic, 1-series (steering clear of Peugeot and Renault though) We are looking at about £10k budget, less if possible and maybe a fraction more but would have to be great deal. Requirements are reasonably spacious in back seats and boot (baby on way), ecconomical (mileage c.14,000 a year) and coming from a 75mpg Smart (eek) and of course reliable. -
£5000 partical and reliable small to medium diesel 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
they are very expensive though so far i have seen Fiat grande punto 1.3 multijet - (looks ok to me but not sure about the reliability) Vaxuall astra diesel - (again the reliablity issue :/) Renault megane 1.5dci Suzuki swift 1.3 ddti (abit too small but reliable) Mitsubishi Colt 1.5d (seldom sees them on the road not sure about how is it) anymore recommendation? budget at the moment should be £5000-6000 (assume my car value is around £2500 if i could get more than that?) -
All - Changing to Automatics 14 Jul 2010 (Forum)
They are likely to have problems learning the new skills required. Let me tell you of my experience. I have had autos since 1975,starting with a Renault 16TL auto when I was 30. It had an odd carburettor fault which made it stall after a fast run when coming to a stop at a junction.I taught myself to L foot brake, but it took a while. I had a 1926 Bullnose Morris for 9 years until 3years ago, which had a crash gearbox and centre accelerator. It took me about 18 months to get happy with it.In an emergency situation it was all too easy to hit the wrong pedal! -
The last golden-ish age of car choice? 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Considering a period - of less than 10 years - from the late 60s into the early 70s, and merely considering small-medium family cars, there were such models as the: Alfasud (flat 4) Austin 1100 (hydrolastic suspension and great packaging) Citroen GS (air-cooled flat 4 and hydropneumatic suspension) Daf 66 (continuously-variable automatic transmission via rubber belts) Fiat 128 (transverse engine with end-on gearbox) Ford Escort/Cortina (utterly conventional) Hillman Imp (rear inline engine canted over almost on its side) Morris Minor/Traveller (from 1948 / part timber-framed) NSU Ro80 (wankel) Renault 10, 16, 12 (respectively, engine: rear, behind front axle, ahead of front axle) Simca 1000 (inline rear engine) Triumph Herald (separate chassis) VW Beetle (air-cooled rear flat 4) Wartburg Knight (3 cylinder 2-stroke) In the above list - they weren't all good, but BY GUM there was a heck of a range to choose from!! -
PT Cruise replacement 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Maybe, a SEAT Altea (XL) not sure if it is raised enough. ? VW Touran ? Nissan Cashcow ? At a push a Renault Scenic or Vauxhall Zafira though, he may not remain a friend if I recommend either of these. Possibly even a FIAT Multipla ? These are not the type of cars I would normally look for myself, my question; is there anything I've overlooked?
